Poll: What’s Your Favorite Color to Wear En Femme?

By Lucille Sorella

Did you know that the colors you wear have a HUGE impact on the way people perceive you – especially when you are en femme?

Colors send out subconscious messages to people. For example, purple says “sexy and mysterious”, while pink says “feminine and romantic”.

The right colors can even make you look more passable!

Here are the meanings of 12 different colors:

meaningofcolors1

White

White is associated with purity and simplicity. Wear white if you want to look pure, innocent, or even virginal.

Blue

Light blue send out messages of peace, trust, and understanding. Dark blue is associated with authority and masculinity (think police uniforms), so use this color sparingly. The best blues for TG women are light blue and baby blue.

Red

Red is the most intense color of all and is associated with passion, desire, love, and sexuality. Wear red only when you want to be noticed!

Green

Light green symbolizes freshness and youthfulness, while dark green is associated with money and ambition.

meaningofcolors2

Purple

Purple communicates mystery, magic, and creativity. Wear purple if you want to look sexy and mysterious.

Black

Black is associated with power, elegance, and formality. Wear black if you want to look sophisticated and mysterious.

Pink

Pink is the color of love and romance. It’s the most feminine color, so be sure to incorporate lots of pink into your wardrobe.

Yellow

Yellow is the color of joy and energy. Wear yellow to show off your fun, playful side. Avoid yellow when you want to be taken seriously.

meaningofcolors3

Orange

Like yellow, orange is associated with joy, enthusiasm, and attraction. This is a great color to wear when you want to liven things up.

Brown

Brown is a stable, wholesome, and down-to-earth color. Wear brown for mellow occasions or if you want to appear reliable and genuine.

Gray

Gray is great color to wear when you need to come across as professional and trustworthy. Too much gray can get boring though, so be sure to punch it up with some fun colors.

Beige

Beige is a simple, conservative color that’s friendly, approachable and non-threatening. It’s perfect for times when you want people to open up to you.

What’s YOUR favorite color to wear? Does this color match what you want the world to know about you?

  6. Paula H says:

My favourite colours are red, white and black. I had my colours done by a beautician many years ago, she said I was a winter.

My favourite outfit is a black skirt, white top and a red jacket, black patent heels with a matching bag. I have dark hair, at a CD support group meeting I recall one of the girls saying. “Here is Paula in her trademark red.”

I wish you had said “Pick your top 3 or 4 colors”, using checkboxes instead of radio buttons (sorry, I’m a computer girl by trade)…. because I wear black, but also lots of blues and browns and tans. I tend to go darker on top to conceal a bigger chest, and lighter on bottoms to accentuate small hips. My favorite is white denim capris with a teal and tan top. But then there’s my favorite pink top, and, oh, that black sequin sheath dress. Plus the red satin blouse with the matching red, purple and black flower print skirt… Oh! How can I pick just 1 or 3 or 6 colors??? That’s so unfair!!! Don’t put a girl in a box!!! ;-p

THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE MANY WHO FAVOUR GREEN.

  9. Cory P. says:

I opted for black as #1, but like all colors, except for browns, beiges, oranges and yellows, which I avoid like the plague. All the other colors work just fine. Dark blue may be masculine and authoritarian, but for that very imperious reason, I find that people examine me less closely when I’m dressed in dark blue. I tend to avoid greys and silvers because of my age. :) Look at two of my photos to note what the change in the top color can do for a look. A white blouse is very business-like, not at all virginal! The green one is kicky fun and you can see out I’m for a good time! But, toss a white jacket over it and all of a sudden it becomes very formal. I feel I look best in something black or blue, but know that red, especially blue toned reds are very flattering for my skin tone. My two cents worth: if the color suits me in drab it suits me en femme. While I have to have a “drab” business wardrobe for my work, one of my goals is to only buy clothes I can wear in drab mode or en femme. While in drab, I still know I’m wearing women’s clothing and feel my feminine best!
