Should You Be a Blonde, Brunette, or Redhead?

Comments (79)

One of the best parts of being a girl is experimenting with your look – and that includes hair color! Changing your hair color or trying a new wig is the fastest way to transform your image.

So should your femme self be a blonde, brunette, or redhead? It all depends on the image you want to project. Here’s what each color says about you:

blondeBlonde

Blonde is the most feminine hair color. It’s a fun, lively shade that attracts a lot of attention. Blondes are seen as bubbly, youthful, and approachable.

I think every woman should go blonde at least once in her life, but it’s crucial to choose the right shade. Brassy blonde looks tacky, while a shade that’s too light makes you look washed out.

brunette3Brunette

Brunettes are perceived as intelligent, sophisticated, and seductive. Go brunette if you want to show off your mysterious side. 51% of men prefer brunettes, so it’s a color that will also get you noticed.

Just be sure to choose the right shade. Going too dark can drain the color from your face.

redhead2Redhead

Only 3% of the population is redheaded, so red hair makes you stand out. Redheads are known for having fiery personalities. The stereotype is that redheads are sexpots and femme fatales.

Red is flattering shade that brings color to your face. Red ranges from strawberry blonde to bright red to deep auburn. Your best shade depends on your skin tone and eye color.

Which one are YOU? Take my poll below and tell my why you love your color in the comments section!

A few years back my hair started thinning drastically so I started massaging in essential oil of Rosemary in a Jojoba oil base. It reversed the process but it made my hair VERY OILY. Since I wear a hard hat at work, this wasn’t really a problem. After discovering your site and ordering the Kalo hair inhibitor that you talked about, I noticed that they also made Nissim hair regrowth extract. Not only is it clean, but one bottle is good for months of twice daily applications and it is working much better for me than the Rosemary.

I stopped dyeing my hair when it got more than 30% gray. The gray roots were becoming too obvious. Now I rinse my hair with sage tea. This gives me a more natural but multi-hued look. My temples are still gray, but the rest of my hair was brown with blonde streaks and highlights.

This fall I met an African hair stylist at a gay nightclub and she persuaded me to come to her for hair extensions. I feel oh so feminine in them, and when the guys at work asked why, I just told them “I’M RICK JAMES, B***H!”

Because my hair was already multi-toned, she gave me a half and half (blonde and brunette) weave. It takes hours and I pay her well, but I just love it… and it’s fun spending time at the salon with African and Caribbean women.

You need to add another voting space for streaks.

  4. Carolyn says:

I have long light brown hair, a few years ago I decided to try highlights and I was really pleased. I have kept that color and regularly have the highlights done by my hairdresser. It really gives me a boost when I have it done.

    Hi Lucille,

Not sure if I answered this one before but I am a brunette for the most part but do partake of auburn shades in my choice of hair. I like brunette best because it’s my natural color and it matches my eyebrows and eyelashes so I don’t look like a “bottled” hair color. I think the pic will shoe what I mean quite nicely.

  6. Elizabeth says:

I am a natural honey blonde, although when I passed the big 6-0, my hairdresser started doing a little highlighting to help cover some of the grey that was creeping in. I have toyed, off and on, with the notion of red highlights, but always just about the time I have decided to try it, I run into a complete stranger who remarks on what great hair I have. So I will probably just keep my natural color.

As you can see I’m a Silver haired foxy lady. My natural hair and color.
Living full time and totally accepted as Patti and female everywhere I go.
Going for my official name change in a few weeks but have to admit that in my area I’ve had total respect and been treated with all the proper female pronouns even after having to produce my male ID. Which has been a wonderful feeling.

  12. Danyelle Rene says:

    Hi Lucille,

I’m a light brunette but have a patch in the back that is blond. It becomes very blond in the summer. At the salon the girl that does my hair wants me to highlight the rest of my hair the same color. I am always asked if I highlighted that area, but its all natural. I know I’m going to go more blond to match that natural patch, because I can really see myself as a ash blond and because I’m a winter in my coloring. I’ve been told by other woman that if you see a hair color and style that you keep coming back to it’s probably you and what you should be doing.

  13. tried to go blond but too much work to keep it their so I went to my next favorite color, red. and I love it and no one thinks of me as male unless they know. you do need to be a little bold though.

  15. Simone Michelle says:

When I first started cross-dressing, I wore a dark wig that was very pretty and I liked it very much. I was a blond child like a lot of boys and I always liked blonde hair on women so one day a lady friend who taught me how to do my makeup suggested a short blonde California girl style wig for me. I have been a blonde ever since then. My blonde wigs just help me feel more feminine and I love the look!

  16. Siobhan Melanie says:

    Hi Lucille,

I am a light auburn as it work well with my pale skin. I mainly wear a brunette with light highlights because it is so easy to take care of for office wear (I’m full time girls) and I like the page boy cut.
I tried blonde once *brrrr* definitely not my shade!

  20. dorothee says:

I’ve voted redhead, because I have a discret color, violin, and I have an other more red that I’ll apply soon.
And I love it because it feets my eyes (and I still don’t dare blond for now)
