How to Get an Hourglass Figure
CommentsOne of the best parts of being a woman is having CURVES galore!
But maybe you’re wondering …
It is really possible to look like an hourglass if you’re built like a rectangle or an apple (as most transgender women are)?

The answer is YES!
Keep reading to learn how to slim your waist and enhance your hips to achieve an hourglass shape:
1. Try corset training
If you’ve never worn a corset before, you’re in for a treat. A corset can take up to 6” off your waist and make you look and feel ultra feminine.

A corset can even be used for permanent (or at least semi-permanent) waist size reduction. Corset training isn’t fast or easy, but it can work wonders when combined with a proper diet and exercise.
Check out Romantasy.com to learn more about corset training. They offer corsets, training materials, and even a 3-month waist training coaching program.
2. Wear a waist cincher
As lovely as corsets are, they aren’t always practical. A big drawback is that corsets can look stiff and bulky under most clothes.
Waist cinchers, on the other hand, are designed to be worn under clothing. A waist cincher can take 1-4 inches off your waist while still allowing you to move and breath easily.
Here are 3 top-reviewed waist cinchers available in small to extra-large sizes.

- Squeem Magical Lingerie Waist Cincher

3. Improve your posture
Most of us have poor posture from being slumped over computers all day. Good posture can make you look 10 pounds lighter around the middle, so pay attention to the way you sit and stand. Think: stomach in, chest lifted, and shoulders back.
Even better – put on your waist cincher! A waist cincher improves your posture by forcing you to keep your tummy in and your spine straight.
4. Try the vacuum pose
Traditional exercises like crunches and sit-ups can overdevelop your abs and increase the size of your waist. Have you ever noticed that many modern bodybuilders have bulging abdomens? Compare this to the wasp-waist look of old school bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jack Lalanne.

You obviously don’t want to look like “The Terminator”, but these classic bodybuilders were onto something. Their secret was the “vacuum pose”.
The vacuum pose is an exercise that tones the transverse abdominis. The transverse abdominis is the innermost ab muscle, which supports your posture and helps hold your stomach in. Everyday crunches don’t target this muscle.
The vacuum pose can take 2-4 inches off your waist, so it’s definitely worth a try. (I personally lost 1 inch off my waist after vacuum posing for 2 weeks!) Here’s how to do it:
- Exhale all the air from your lungs.
- Expand your chest and suck in your stomach as much as possible. Imagine trying to touch your belly button to your spine.
- Hold this pose for 5-15 seconds and then relax.
- Repeat for 3-5 minutes.

The vacuum pose should be done on an empty stomach and can be done standing, sitting, or on your hands and knees. Check out this article to learn more about the vacuum pose.
5. Enhance your hips
A small waist is only half of the equation. Your hips should appear approximately 10 inches larger than your waist for true hourglass proportions.
Here are some tips for enhancing your hips:
- Wear padded panties. Classic Curves carries the best hip and butt enhancers for crossdressers and transgender women. You can also find a big selection of removable hip and butt pads on LoveMyBubbles.com.
- Go for skirts and dresses with gathered waistlines. Gathers are the easiest way add inches to your lower body and create the illusion of hips.
- Look for peplum styles. A peplum is a ruffle or overskirt attached to the waistline of a top, dress, or skirt. Besides adding fullness to the hips, the peplum is a very fashion-forward look.

Does anyone here use under garments from Classic Curves? I know they are a bit pricey so I would like some opinions before I indulge in some glamorous hips.

Hi Lucille,
I love your site and the information is very helpful for many girls in our area. Thanks so much for gathering all this together for those of us that could use some help here and there.
A friend turned me to a Miami business “underworks.com” site for their padded panty ‘style 514′. They have a high, elasticized waistline that holds in your belly and the waistline, while giving the extra padding where needed. There are four individual pads that are contoured together to give you a full smooth transition from the hips around to the back and the butt area. My friend wears hers in her business she runs en femme, and I wear mine any time I’m dressed, out in public. They look great under tight fitting jeans as well as filling out any skirt or dress. I’ve had mine for a few years and they still look and hold up like new, they are good quality garments.
This is why I LOVE, you Lucille. I hope you dont mind if I share this information. Its one of very few ‘expenseless’ things I have left to work on, is my waist. Thanks again xoxo
Thank you so much Lucille. Some good ideas, but I will simply pass along to everyone that it still comes down to diet and exercise. When I really committed to exercise everyday, and eating more salads, only Special-K for breakfast, no more sodas or beer, only drink water/sparkling water, and no more evening snacking, I got down to 176lbs (I’m 6’2″) from 205lbs and I have STAYED there. My waist went from 35″ to 29″ and at 3+ years on Lucille’s F2F program, I’m now 38-29-35, and comfortably wear a C cup. I don’t have much of a feminine butt shape, but my very flat tummy and thin legs are very convincing feminine look and feel in pencil skirts, fitted dresses, knit tops (size 10, sometimes 12). It’s now completely part of my entire lifestyle, and not a burden, just my regular natural routine. My shoulders have become much thinner with very feminine collar bone showing, thin arms and neck. Before when I was at 36″-37″ across my breasts, I was still 35″ right under bust. Now I’m down to just 31″ under my bustline so it makes my breasts look so much bigger, looser + rounder shape as they hang, a much more full. I think I might try hip pads to see if adding 2″ to 3″ and being 38-29-38 would make me look even more feminine.
Hello, Nice job, I am almost there with my transformation and what fun it is to be this woman that I am becoming. thanks to the flat-to-fem program. All of my new friends love the change that has happened to me.

The info is very informative and helpful. I have an athletic body that I am trying to trim to more fem. I will try these things to help. I prefer to use the waist clincher being that I am very active (work & gym) and need something that I can get around.
Thanks for the advice you give. I could use all that I can get.

I certainly will be buying even more corsets
Dear Lucille,
You have shown a best way to get body shape as women have…
Thanks again…!

I think all Lucille’s tips are great and there’s no doubt how amazing a corset makes you feel. But if you are living as a girl 24/7 you HAVE to be more practical … a girl needs her comfort! For me a combination of control knickers, high waisted skirts (or skirts gathered at the waist), nice big girly belts and of course chicken filets, make me look natural and feel great. It’s still a relief to take all this off at the end of the day … but then again it’s always a pleasure to slob around in a nightie for the rest of the evening! Thanks Lucille – wonderful website.

Thanks again Lucille!

Thanks Lucille, very good tips in here. Gathered waists work well
for me. Tops left out also work as a “concealer”!
Hi Lucille,
This is right on cue. A couple of years ago I decided to try and get back some old slimness. Measured everything with some horror here and there. I was always a slim person. Back then, years ago. In my earlier days on a beach, my (then) mother-in-law remarked to my then wife that I had a “lovely figure”. These centuries later (it seems), I was annoyed with me. I am very active and yet my waist had gone. I started leaving some of my main meal on my plate my partner would then gradually see that I wanted less and adjusted portions appropriately. Then came some strange “luck”; I seriously pulled my back – and having had such problems before, and had advice, this time I got myself a waist shaper, partly to give my back that support (which it does well enough) and partly as an idea that it could train my body to a bit of slimness. Well, it does. Last night, I decided to go a step further and wore it overnight too, after having it on for three days whilst busying around in the daytime. So this morning it all seemed a bit tighter round there, so out came the measure – Hey! I have lost, truly, ten percent of waist and better still, my hips are the same as they were when I started this. 37″ hips and 29″ waist. OK. Getting there. First target is to get down to less than 28″ but 25 to 26″ would be nice.
Now this particular support garment is an Esbelt (Brazil made I think). As its top comes just below my boobs, it also has some slow effect in training my rib cage back into position (sticks out at bottom due rib fractures way back).
I am coming to the conclusion that much of the body can be “trained” into new shapes. My feet for example are responding to tighter width shoes. Even the bony stuff may respond – slowly. But the softer tissue can respond quite quickly. The younger you are, of course, the quicker.
Not sure about my actual weight just now but maybe I’ve lost like 5 lbs doing this. That’s only three percent but it feels better. I shall do the vacuum training – great idea, thanks. I would also think that “body twists” could be added without a bulk penalty. They seem to help in pulling the sides in a bit.
Thanks for the great tips and courses, Lucille. It all helps.

The investment in a good quality corset is definitely worthwhile especially those with the padded hips.
Over time and correct posture , your figure does adapt.
Cinchers I also recommend, as these can be more appropiatein cooler weather and casual clothing.
Padded pants , I must say have been most disappointing, as they have a tendency to slip off the waistline giving the impression of a “very saggy ” backside..
I almost have an hourglass shape its just I have little scoliosis so one side is straighter then the other if not for that I would be an hour glass shape my mom suggested geting a corset customized to help fix that and help with my posture I want to but a custom one is expensive but I have a bustier that goes down to my wast it helps but I dont ues it that much the pic is is me wearing a shirt I made no wast snitching at all it makes my straight side look curvier and the other pic with the straps attached to my paints that’s my natural hips some time on HRT so I just ues clothing to help get the hour glass shape.
You’ve a lovely figure Christy. I think you’re like me, in that corsets are okay for special occasions, but not great for day to day. Natural is everything! You look fab in jeans!
You have a great shape, Christy! You are lucky to have been able to start HRT so young.
Well either way I think you look hot! just the way you are…
Ckeck out this corset I got, It helps with boobs and waist, I love it…
I used (and am currently wearing) the Bali: Never Ending Control Waist Cincher. I found this because I wanted something I could wear under clothes with out any embellishment that shows through. Only thing that’s possibly noticeable is the line across the midsection where the top of the garment stops. I got it in my normal size (L) and then got a second a size smaller (M). I wore the first one for 6 months (when I noticed a change in size and shape) I then started wearing the second one which dropped my waist even further. I’ve been happy with the results. Now if I could just afford the corset.
Dear Lucille
When i was younger 20 to 30 i used to have an ourglass figure, quite feminine and now i am 57 have let myself go a bit, the vacuum
