Are you excited to embrace your fabulous female self? Having the right tools is key!
While some transgender / crossdressing supplies are obvious, there are important items you might not have considered that can help you look and feel your best as a woman.
In this blog post, I share 10 must-have essentials for your male to female transformation journey.
1. Breast Forms
Breasts are arguably the most feminine part of a woman’s body.
If you don’t possess your own natural curves, then investing in a pair of breast forms is a must for any crossdresser or transgender woman. (Of course, you’ll also need a cute bra to put them in!)
2. Color Corrector
Dealing with a visible beard shadow can be a major challenge in putting your best face forward.
Although it may be tempting to camouflage it with thick concealer, the result never appears natural.
Instead, invest in a pink or red color corrector to help neutralize the tone of your beard shadow. This enables you to use less makeup and achieve a more natural and feminine appearance.
(Note: Check out The Makeup Magic Program for expert tips on concealing a beard shadow, using makeup to feminize your face, and so much more!)
3. Body Shaper
A body shaper is a versatile garment that offers multiple benefits, including waist trimming, belly flattening, and overall shape smoothing.
Body shapers come in a variety of styles. Opt for a brief style to wear under shorter skirts and a thigh-length style for pants and longer skirts.
To feminize your lower body, look for a body shaper with hip and butt padding to create the illusion of curves.
4. Perfume
The right perfume can make you feel irresistibly feminine!
The secret is to choose a fragrance that matches the qualities you want to express. Here are some simple guidelines:
- Go for floral scents if you want to express your romantic side.
- Choose oriental or woody scents if you want to bring out your inner seductress.

5. Black Pantyhose Or Tights
While bare legs may be fashionable, there’s nothing quite like the sophisticated appeal of hosiery. Classic black pantyhose or tights, in particular, are a style must-have.
When opting for pantyhose, choose the sheerest hose available and stick to jet black. Avoid shades like gray-black or brown-black.
Alternatively, you can go for opaque tights for a more casual and youthful look.
6. Lipstick
Studies show that a woman’s lips are considered the most attractive part of her body, particularly when accentuated with lipstick.
It goes without saying that lipstick is an essential item that will instantly make you look more feminine and attractive.
7. Classic Pumps
Shoes say more about you than any other accessory. When it comes to making a statement, you can’t go wrong with a timeless pair of black pumps.
Classic black pumps exude sexiness, femininity, and work well with many types of clothes.
8. Moisturizer
Due to higher testosterone levels, males tend to have rougher skin compared to women.
That’s why it’s essential to incorporate a daily facial moisturizer into your routine, whether you’re presenting as your feminine self or not.
By using moisturizer regularly, you can achieve smoother-looking skin and enhance the application and longevity of your makeup.
9. Little Black Dress
The little black dress is a wardrobe staple every crossdresser and transgender woman should own. A simple black dress in a flattering length can go from day to night and will never go out of style.
10. Attitude
Lastly, the key to it all is your attitude – and it’s absolutely crucial!
The way people treat you often reflects how you expect to be treated. So, embrace your femininity and radiate fabulousness with confidence. You deserve nothing less, girlfriend!
Now I’d like to hear from YOU!

I have never let my 6 ft. height be a problem for me. I remind myself that some runway models are around that height and they wear tall heels that seem to be no more than a beautiful extension of their long legs. I think they can give you a kind of gracefulness that other women might envy. Anyway that’s what I think in my head and I just enjoy being me. To be honest I don’t wear them that much. My everyday is a long bib overall style jumper that reaches down to the floor. Thanks to my indian blood it takes days to grow any hair on my face you might notice and I’m blessed with only a regular bra and no padding. The girdle could help and some perfume would be simply marvelous.
I have all the the basics and then some like Charlene I’m mixed blood native so I don’t need the beard concealer I’m also a truck driver and I’d like some tips on how to keep from breaking my nails thanks for all you’ve done for me Lucille. Maybe I’ll see Charlene out on the road somewhere
Tammy i am also a truck driver 1 year into transition, i try to keep my nails done and the only thing i can tell you is just be careful. I know its not much but hope it helps even a bit….hugs, Jennifer
Ps a pic for the post.lol.
I had pretty decent success using pink blush to neutralize my shadow. Only problem is that it grows out so fast it’s bumpy four hours later and there are hairs poking out by the time I get back home.
The only thing that I would add to the list is a waist cincher. The girdle is great (I have one), but it doesn’t always do the trick. I put the cincher under the girdle and if you get the right one, it’s not even that uncomfortable. I feel like I look great and as an added bonus, you’ve not relaxed until you’ve removed a waist cincher after wearing it all day. BEST. FEELING. EVER.
Thank you Lucille for all that you have done for our world. I am a TS girl and have known it for most of my 70 years. It has just been the last 5 years that I have done anything about it. Since discussing this with friends and family here in NW Florida, I have paid a supreme price through the loss of most of my friends, my wife of 43 years, a daughter and her family and a son and his family. But such is the life. But since then I have made some really nice and very close friends. I have been on HRT for most of those five years, my breasts are real and I can fill a 36C. Now to your blog. I have most of everything you have listed but not necessarily in the same order. I have a very kind and considerate AVON dealer who has taught me well about make-up, lipstick/gloss, perfumes, body lotions, jewelry, clothes and just about everything in between. I am deeply indebted to her. I work 100% female, I live 100% female. My house and my 5th wheel trailer are 100% female. I blend with the area by dressing as they dress. I am causal when needed and sport a suit when required. I agree with an earlier post, most guys check out your legs so great shoes/boots are important with your choice of clothes to accent them. I believe your last item, “attitude” at least for me, is by far the most important one. I know that I am a beautiful woman, I have confidence and portray it in everything I do, in work and play, in and about the public and private sector. My other suggestion is, dress according to what and where you are doing/going. I have seen too many “give away’s” from that very issue. Thanks for letting me ramble and continue to be the source of great information and an inspiration for the rest of us.
I am now 69 and have been living fem since 2009 I am 6’tall and go out all the time in boots jeans fem top and a cowboy hat. I always wear rings, ear rings sometimes a necklace a black leather vest with a pocket watch in one pocket and a black shoulder purse. I wear very little makeup but always lip stick. Being part native American my skin is brown most all the time. I spent years either out doors or driving over the road. As for beard shadow like a lot of native Americans I don’t have much. For Chrissy try size 16M average length.
Love you Lucille
i cant begin to list out the 10 most important “tools” or things in my transition, then put them in some kind of order of importance…it’s just too hard to do.
but one thing I can say, I know what the MOST important thing is…
it’s “an accepting friend”
i put that right at the TOP!
Accepting Friends are essential! I found mine at a Transgender Support Group.
Wonderful point!! 🙂
My Top-10 List:
1. Completely hairless + moisturized legs, underarms, face.
2. My own breast tissue squeezed together in a clear-gel Nu-Bra for wonderful bouncy cleavage.
3. Clean, lacey bra, panty (maxi-pad), thigh-high hose, half or full slip . . . now THAT’s feminine!
4. Tasteful, classy bare minerals, lipstick, hint of blush, liner, shadow, mascara for “everyday” look.
5. Washed + conditioned silky hair, moisturized + flat-ironed straight, full bangs + soft on shoulders
6. Tasteful, classy, well-matched skirt + top, or dress that blends in public as normal “everyday” attire.
7. Matching 3 rings, necklace, earrings, watch, bracelets – blend in “everyday” match hair + attire.
8. Black or tan flats to match my outfit with matching black or tan shoulder purse.
9. Pretty + feminine but not too loud nails polished, and finish off with sexy-subdued perfume.
10. Slow my walk, move my hips, shoulders back, jiggly breasts/cleavage = BE Cathy in every way!!
That’s a great, comprehensive list!
I agree with u about wearing a slip, it looks and feels so feminine… but, at least in UK, only elderly ladies seem to wear them as far as I can tell. I don’t understand it, maybe it’s because they aren’t considered necessary with lined skirts.
Re. make up, please can u tell me what minerals are? (Maybe in UK they are called something different).
Andrea
Lucille you have truly helped me to become the beautiful woman that I am today. Even young guys hit on me. Today was another great milestone in my life. With Social Security’s new rules, I have changed my SS & Medicare gender to FEMALE. Now all I need is a birth certificate, but Texas still won’t do it without surgery.
I had my Sixth anniversary of transition on July 3, 2013.
In the above, you did not mention NAILS. i would feel naked without nail polish and lipstick.
And I love my wigs. I did not even allow my wig to come off when I was lying nude on the operating table for my pacemaker replacement a year ago.
You have so much for our community of transwomen, words cannot begin to express the gratitude.
Lainie
Thank you, Lainie! I feel blessed to have known you since my earliest days working with this community. Thanks for all your support and feedback over the years. 🙂 P.S. Love your necklace – I want one!!
