Your hair is a big part of your female image. While feminine hair is typically associated with long hair, short hair can also look cute, fun, and sexy!
There are lots of reasons why transgender women and crossdressers might opt for a shorter hairstyle. For one thing, short hair is practical and low-maintenance. It also makes a bold fashion statement!
Now obviously, shorter hairstyles can lean towards a more masculine look. However, with the right cut and styling, MTF short hairstyles can look chic and feminine.
In this blog, I’ll share my top 3 tips for feminizing short hair. Read on to learn more!
3 Tips for Feminizing MTF Short Hairstyles
1. Get a cute haircut
The first thing you need is a great haircut that can be styled in different ways. Choppy layered styles are fashionable and look great in both male and female modes.
Ask your hairstylist to show you different options for styling your hair. Layers that are swept towards the face are very feminine and flattering. Curls are another great, girly option.
2. Try a hair accessory
Transgender women with short hair look fantastic with barrettes and headbands, so this is an easy way to feminize a short haircut.
You can wear hair accessories at any age, but choose something appropriate. Stay away from girly bows or headbands after age 30. Instead, go for something sophisticated like a beautiful barrette or a pretty flower for your hair.
3. Wear a hat
Hats are a great fashion accessory. They make a bold fashion statement and add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
Hats also offer an easy way to feminize your hairstyle. In fact, you don’t even have to do your hair! Just throw on a pretty hat and you’re good to go.
Be sure to consider the season when selecting a hat. That means you’ll want to avoid knit hats in the summer and straw hats in the winter. Felt hats can be worn year round except for during the hottest months.

I like short hair because it’s easy to manage and doesn’t make me look as though I’m peeping out of a haystack.
Short hair is great, also you can be skinhead…..but only if you have a really femenine face and neck, othewise forget it – the hair is the best for cover male details
My hair is growing fast thankfully! It’s touching my shoulders now. I’m going to let it get below my shoulder blades. I was buzz-cut @9 months ago so by winter I should be able to stay warmer. I’m unemployed so I can’t buy your program. I’m running out of the hormones I was lucky enough to be given. I have wigs that were given to me & breastforms but I don’t wear any of it anymore with the hair & breast growth I’ve experienced. I’ve been very fortunate to have been given what I was given & will pass them to someone that needs help. (Once I find someone here. This isn’t the best place to be Transgendered. *Lincoln Nebraska*) I’m lucky enough to pass as a woman because I dress, act & wear makeup like regular women do. (I have a drag queen mentor but I’m not a drag queen) I now use the ladies room exclusively when ever I’m out. I blend in when I want to but stand out when I want to. I’m fully “Out” to everybody and live 24/7/365 as a woman. Times are hard for me but I’ve been very lucky & blessed if I can use that word here without offending anybody. I’m very thankful for all the help I’ve received & for your web-help as well! Please keep up the good work!! Jenny
At 60, I am blessed to have all my hair. It is shoulder length and dark blonde. I prefer to style it in waves.
I should have added that at the age of 60 I am lucky to have a full head of hair which although it is thinning hasn’t yet gone grey.

Thank you for such a constructive article on hair styles. I have been growing my hair for 31/2 years and from short back and sides it now sits nicely on my shoulders. It is naturally very curly and frizzy. It now needs properly styling to look its best but finding a sympathetic hairdresser is not easy unless they already know you are a CD/TG. They automatically assume you want a masculine cut and never think about a feminine style. So far I have been getting it washed and blow dried which is a big step forward for me. The hair dresser wanted to put some layers in it to reduce the bulk but I refused because it makes wearing a pony tail difficult when I need to tie my hair back. Your articles have now given me some more good suggestions to work with.
Thank you.
Wendy
