Your hair is a big part of your female image. While feminine hair is typically associated with long hair, short hair can also look cute, fun, and sexy!
There are lots of reasons why transgender women and crossdressers might opt for a shorter hairstyle. For one thing, short hair is practical and low-maintenance. It also makes a bold fashion statement!
Now obviously, shorter hairstyles can lean towards a more masculine look. However, with the right cut and styling, MTF short hairstyles can look chic and feminine.
In this blog, I’ll share my top 3 tips for feminizing short hair. Read on to learn more!
3 Tips for Feminizing MTF Short Hairstyles
1. Get a cute haircut
The first thing you need is a great haircut that can be styled in different ways. Choppy layered styles are fashionable and look great in both male and female modes.
Ask your hairstylist to show you different options for styling your hair. Layers that are swept towards the face are very feminine and flattering. Curls are another great, girly option.
2. Try a hair accessory
Transgender women with short hair look fantastic with barrettes and headbands, so this is an easy way to feminize a short haircut.
You can wear hair accessories at any age, but choose something appropriate. Stay away from girly bows or headbands after age 30. Instead, go for something sophisticated like a beautiful barrette or a pretty flower for your hair.
3. Wear a hat
Hats are a great fashion accessory. They make a bold fashion statement and add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
Hats also offer an easy way to feminize your hairstyle. In fact, you don’t even have to do your hair! Just throw on a pretty hat and you’re good to go.
Be sure to consider the season when selecting a hat. That means you’ll want to avoid knit hats in the summer and straw hats in the winter. Felt hats can be worn year round except for during the hottest months.
Let’s Talk Hair Length
Since I am often asked about MTF short hairstyles, I thought it would be fun to do a poll on hair length. Take the poll and leave me your comments below!

Hi All,
I like having my hair long, I like the feel of it swishing around.

By the middle of February, I made the decision to grow my hair a little bit longer. I started to forget wearing the wig and go natural with my hair. Visiting salons, I was able to have the stylist add the cute feminine touches to my hair. I want to keep the short, feminine type hairstyles since they look much cuter. Wondering what people think so far, despite that these pics were dated back in February and March.
Rachel, the second photo is your best.
Love it you look awesome
I like my hair longer but if I went short this would be the style I would choose.
Dianne, you look great, stick with that hair style!.
personally like to wear my hair about sholder length so can wear it in a variety of ways. However as the years have passed my male pattern “baldness” has started to show. Do you have any suggestions to help with reseeding hairlines so they are not so obvious. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all you do.
i like to make this long hair its posssible by lusica . see my new look in female get up .
I have several long hair wigs that I enjoy wearing however, recently tried a short hair wig and like its sassy, sexy look. I took it to my hairdresser and asked her if she could replicate the style and color with my natural hair when I get a bit more length; no problem. Depending on how I brush it, I can wear it to work and when I go out. My wig days may be coming to an end.
Deena, that style looks good, stay with it.
I have been having problems with wigs as they tend to make me way too hot. I’ve been considering doing without as I can probavly pull off Jamie Lee’s pixie look. tho this does tend to up the recognizablity factor some. I wanted to get your take on Salt and Pepper hair and styles.
I have grown my hair out several times and donated to “Locks of Love” as another girl reported in an earlier comment. I like my hair longer for a couple of reasons. First is that I really like the feel of my hair against my back, it’s usually in a braid. My hair dresser says it is not fair for a man to have such beautiful long hair (if she only knew). Second and probably more important is the fact that I need to hide my ears and the thickness of my neck. Both are larger than any genetic females that I know. The third is much more fun because long hair can be very erotic and useful during foreplay if you know what I mean, and If you don’t, well shame on you!
