A girl can never own too many bras, right?
But with so many bra options to choose from, it’s easy to go wrong and wear a bra that’s the incorrect size or style for your body type.
Want to enhance your feminine curves – without wasting money on bad bra purchases?
In this post, I share how to flatter and feminize your body with the 7 best bras for trans women and crossdressers.
1. Pocket Bra
A pocket bra, or mastectomy bra, has pockets in the cups to hold breast forms securely in place. If you wear breast forms (especially large or heavy forms), a pocket bra is a must.
2. Front Closure Bra
Crossdressers and transgender women tend to have wide rib cages and/or widely spaced breasts. This can make it hard to find a bra that fits properly.
Enter the front closure bra. Front closure bras have a clasp in the front of the bra instead of the back. These bras have wider set cups, making them easier to fit.
3. T-shirt Bra
The t-shirt bra is every girl’s best friend. It’s a seamless, molded cup bra that’s designed to look smooth under your clothes – even the most form-fitting tee. Best of all, t-shirt bras come in a wide range of sizes.
4. Convertible Bra
A common complaint I hear from crossdressers and transgender women is that many bras have straps that aren’t long enough for them.
Convertible bras offer a perfect solution. Convertible bras have removable straps that can be worn in different ways – including crisscrossed. Because of this, they have longer straps than regular bras.
5. Balconette Bra
Balconette bras have cups that are cut horizontally across the bust. This is a beautiful cup style that’s particularly flattering to wide rib cages and/or wide set breasts.
Most balconette bras are padded, so they’re also great for giving “the girls” some extra oomph.
6. Wireless Bra
Underwire bras offer maximum support, so they’re ideal if you wear breast forms. However, they can be hard to fit if you have a wide chest.
Consider wearing a wireless bra instead. Wireless bras have a more forgiving fit, so they’re much more comfortable.
If you want to wear a soft cup bra with breast forms, look for a wireless pocketed bra or attach the breast forms to your chest with tape or adhesive.
7. Adhesive Bra
Adhesive bras are a backless, strapless bra style that’s attached to the breasts with adhesive.
These bras are fabulous for creating cleavage, so they’re a must for your femme wardrobe. (Click here to learn more about how to create cleavage with an adhesive bra.)
In conclusion
While you don’t need to limit yourself to these 7 bra styles (the sky’s the limit in bra land!), they’re a great place to start.
Now I’d like to hear about YOUR favorite bras. Is there a particular bra style or brand that works for you?

Great article as usual. After much trial and error, and professional fittings with advice, I have settled on 2 bra types. My favourite is a a full cup underwire bra – so many pretty choices. Followed by a pocket bra. Both hold my breast forms firmly in place and give me that female shape where it matters most.
Wow Diane you have an amazing figure! Do you have a specific workout?
I love an underwire! holds and controls the side spillage. I also adore a add a size or 2 type Wal-Mart has sold in the past. Anyway I wear a silky satin one unless I need the add a size padded ones. I usually find most of mine at Goodwill…Most but not ALL! lol Thanks for all the great information on here !!! M
I’m a CD who has to pass as a man at work and home (my wife and daughter know but are unsupportive) so that kind of skews my answer. With that said I wear a bra and panties almost 24/7. I prefer an unpadded underwire bra for work and find Maidenforms hold and shape me well plus they last. At home I currently prefer a thin lacy balconette now that my breasts have become a nice 38B/C as I enjoy the sensuous feel and look they provide. I have over 75 bras of every style and color except for the pocket bra and wear them all depending on my outfit.
One important style not mentioned directly is the racerback/T-back. I find most athletic tops require this style if you don’t want your straps to show. Another advantage is they are less likely to be noticeable through the back of a shirt/blouse.
Keep up the great advice.
Another plus with racerback bras is your straps don’t fall off your shoulders.
using a push up bra here I feel good in this one and sexy 🙂
I really like your bra Jessica. I recently bought a Maidenform One Fab Fit T-Back lace bra, style 7112, that fits and looks fabulous. I love the front closure.
Wished I looked like u
A few observations:
If you don’t like the way your underwires fit, you can bend many of them within a limited range.
Some of my favorite bras are wireless.
I don’t usually like padded bras, but they aren’t bad in cold weather.
It’s good yoga to reach back and hook and unhook your bras, but if it’s a real problem you can always hook it in front, then tug it around back. That’s viewed as cheating, but…
I just thought of a giggle: has anyone yet come up with a 3-D printable breast form?
Victory secret has the bra I’m wearing it’s a + 2 size bra so if your a b it makes you look like a d and it pushes what you got up
Pocket bras are my favorite when I really get dressed up. Sports bras under loose cotton sweaters are nice too.
