Did you know that your clothes are the first thing people notice about you?
It’s true! And that means that the right clothing is critical to your female image.
In this article, I share 10 essentials that should be part of your feminine wardrobe. Here are the must-have transgender / crossdressing clothes you need to own!
1. Little Black Dress
Every woman should own a little black dress. It’s a wardrobe staple. A simple black dress in a flattering length can go from day to night and will never go out of style.
2. Basic Bra
A great fitting bra is every girl’s “breast” friend. Here are 3 tips for choosing the right MTF bra:
- Start with the two basic bra colors: one black and one nude color that matches your skin tone.
- Avoid frilly or lacy textures that can be visible from beneath your clothes.
- If you wear breast forms, choose a full coverage bra with underwires and substantial straps.
Avoid the temptation to wear a white bra under white or lightweight fabrics – white tends to show through while nude blends in with your body.
3. A Vibrant Scarf
A colorful scarf is a wardrobe must. Scarves are extremely versatile, particularly for trans women and crossdressers.
A scarf can be worn around the neck to disguise an Adam’s apple or draped over the shoulders to minimize the look of a broad upper body.
4. Black Pumps
Shoes are your most important accessory. Classic pumps are sexy, feminine, and work well with many types of clothes. Black pumps with a 2″-3″ heel and rounded toe are classic and will give you the most mileage. (Choose a lower heel if you are tall.)
5. Shoulder Bag
Bags are a status symbol among women, so it’s worth investing in a great shoulder bag. You don’t have to splurge on a designer bag, but look for a classy, upscale design that complements your existing wardrobe.
6. Waist Cincher
A waist cincher is a great way to reduce the belly for crossdressers and transgender women who tend to carry weight in the midsection. Here’s how to figure up the sort of waist cincher you’ll need:
- Use a boned waist cincher for a dramatic shaping effect.
- Use a shaping camisole for comfort and control.
7. Two Skirts
Two simple skirts in neutral colors will give you almost endless options for mixing and matching with other items in your feminine wardrobe. Choose:
- One fitted skirt, like a pencil skirt
- One skirt that’s pleated or full
8. Sheer Black Hose or Tights
Bare legs might be trendy, but in cooler months, nothing beats the polished look of hosiery. Control top hose or tights are also great for helping flatten out the tummy. Go for classic black pantyhose or tights.
9. Figure Flattering Jacket
Jackets are endlessly versatile. Since they are more structured than other pieces, they’re great for figure shaping. Look for tailored jackets that accentuate the waist and add curves.
Styles of jackets that work well for crossdressers and transgender women include:
- Peplums
- Belted styles
- Empire waists
- Gathered fabric
- Feminine details like princess seams and darts
Avoid boxy jackets and shoulder pads as these can accentuate a square body shape and/or broad shoulders.
10. Evening Clutch
A sleek clutch can dress up even the most casual outfit and is a must for the evening. Clutches look more chic than shoulder bags at night and can really set your outfit apart.
What are YOUR wardrobe essentials?
These 10 transgender / crossdressing clothing pieces are a great place to start. Once you’ve covered the basics, the fun begins and you can add on items that reflect your own unique style.

Lucille I looked at the list of essentials and except for the scarves I have them all
However the one thing that I find that is essential is my prosthetic vagina holding my male equipment from showing
I can wear a pair of boot cut jeans without having to worry about my male equipment showing
The same go’s when I’m wearing a skirt or dress or shorts
There are many different types of prosthetic vaginas but I found that the v string one from
Feminization secrets .Com is the only one that is custom made to order and it fits like it should fit.
It can be worn for hours and still not be uncomfortable
I would recommend it to the girl who said that she wanted to know what to do to keep her male equipment from showing when shes wearing a pair of tight jeans
It’s a little pricey but well worth the price so that you have nothing to worry about showing when you wear tight jeans or jean shorts
I absolutely love this site
I’m always finding different things about crossdressing that I haven’t thought about and I incorporate them into my transition
Thank you for being here for me
Hi Janine , I tried to find the feminization secrets website you mentioned for the prosthetic vaginas but this site kept coming up . Did you mean this website ? or maybe I’m putting the web address in wrong ? Could you help please ?
Hi Jodi
Sorry for the misunderstanding of the site you are looking for
Its crossdress you’ll find what you are looking for
They are a little pricey but worth the price
Happy shopping
Hi there!!
I have all but two items listed as basic essentials; the waist cincher and a scarf. I rarely see any sis women or transwomen here in sunny Northern California wearing a scarf. I set my intention years ago to acquire a flatter tummy so the most I do is wear a wide belt if I want a smaller waist line. In an effort to blend in here, I usually stay on top of fashion trends and use good judgement as to what look good on me or not. A second opinion from my tgirl friends or a male admirer helps.
Wow, great look girl! !
I need & Use all of the suggestions from the list. I use open bottom girdles & always quality, 100 % nylons.
Hope it’s working in my pictures posted :
I like to have a bright scarf to go with my blue evening jacket, but lots of heels are my favorite
I just sterted discover my femmine self recently, so i bought my first Little black dress, whin i tried i found out that it fit to me quite well but my only issue there is that my.. ehm.. you know what we between legs :D, is visible. Any sugestions how to cover it properly as i said my dress fits me well.
Hi. I have been crossdressing since the age of 12. Now I am 50 I have realised I want to go out as Jasmine and I dont know anything about make uo or dressing properly. I am married with two kids. My wife is not very supportive of this idea. She says she has accepted me dressed but wont lay a hand on me. Please I need some help urgently. Sout Africa is also not a very crossdressing friendly country. Please help me.
Hmmm. Sounds like we have the same issue. I’m in Cape Town, married and have two children(both now at university) and I’m going on fifty two, having started dressing (to various degrees) since I was about twelve or thirteen.
Many say buying the right clothes is an issue because
as your weight goes up and down, your wardrobe has to change
I gained just a few pounds and before I knew it things got to
tight mostly dresses, shorts not as much, so diet is important
to try to maintain your weight evenly.
But as we all know its easier said then done,,, hehe,,

Hope you can help.
Jackie
Hi Jackie!
You shouldn’t have much to worry about if you order the correct size for your waist measurement. I have to Ragu waist cinchers that I purchased from herroom.com that fasten in the front with a row of closely spaced metal hooks like you see on bras.
Aside from sucking in my tummy a little bit to make the job easier I have never had a problem. Fasten them starting with the middle hook and work your way up and down to push things away from your waist. Just get the proper size as described in this article and you won’t have a problem: https://www.leaf.tv/articles/how-to-size-a-waist-cincher/
