Hello ladies!
I’m excited to share this guest post from Jecca Blac – a UK based, gender-free makeup brand that celebrates all makeup wearers.
I’m often asked how to apply makeup if you have wrinkles. Unfortunately, the wrong makeup techniques can emphasize wrinkles and make you look older than you actually are.
However, the RIGHT techniques can minimize wrinkles and make you look feminine and beautiful at every age!
In this article, the Jecca Blac team will share their top tips for makeup wearers who have fine lines and wrinkles, while also providing advice for contour & beard shadow.
Enjoy!
Love,
Lucille
1. Prepare Your Skin
The first thing to consider for a smooth makeup application and youthful complexion is skin prep.
Did you know that fine lines and wrinkles can be exaggerated if your skin is not hydrated? To reduce the appearance of wrinkles, we recommend developing a skincare regime that ensures your skin is cleansed, exfoliated and hydrated.
Removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin by cleansing and exfoliating will not only reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it’ll also ensure a smoother, longer-lasting application for your makeup.
2. Remember to Prime
Apply a hydrating primer
Once your skincare is complete, it is time to prime. Just as we recommended skin prep to keep your skin fresh and hydrated, we also recommend using a hydrating primer.
Applying a hydrating primer will help create a silky smooth base for your makeup, while also locking in the moisture you need to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Apply a blurring primer
After applying a hydrating primer, it’s time to consider where on your face you are looking to add the most coverage. This might be the beard area, any redness, scarring or blemishes, or any parts of the face that become oily throughout the day such as the T zone.
For areas like these, using a blurring primer will help lock in any full coverage makeup. Blurring primer immediately blurs the appearance of any fine lines and wrinkles on the skin, as well as pores, beard shadow and blemishes.
3. Choose the Right Base Products
When it comes to building coverage for makeup wearers with fine lines and wrinkles, we strongly recommend avoiding any powders, and instead opting for cream coverage products.
Using powder products for coverage has a mattifying effect on the skin. This can create an appearance of dryness on the skin’s surface, which tends to enhance the appearance of wrinkles.
Not only this, but the powder itself can settle into fine lines and wrinkles throughout its wear, which can make any signs of aging look deeper than they actually are.
Our base products are designed to suit makeup wearers of all ages. That’s why both our Correct & Conceal Palette and our Sculpt & Soften Palette have cream formulas instead of powder formulas.

4. Add Color
Adding a pop of color will bring a fresh, youthful vibe to your makeup. There are so many ways to get creative with playful pigments when completing your look.
Our tip for avoiding mattifying, powder products also applies to color cosmetics. Cream formulas are much gentler on the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and are ideal for makeup wearers who are showing any signs of aging.
Our Play Pots provide a silky smooth touch of color to anywhere on the face or body. Add to the eyes for a cream shadow, the lips for a lip tint, or the cheeks for a cream blush.
5. Practice Makes Perfect
When it comes to becoming more confident in your makeup skills, we want to remind you that it isn’t a race!
So be sure to take all the time you need to build on your skillset. Enjoy the process of getting to know your face better with every application you try out and every look that you create.

I have been working on my makeup application techniques for a few years and products are crucial as well as knowledgeable application prep and procedures . Your help offering this terrific resource is much appreciated Lucille . My pic reflects digitally enhanced makeup application which I find helpful in deciding what colors and shades that I would like to wear.
Thank you for all you do.
I’ve been making good progress on my dress, mannerisms, breasts and hair which has improved my confidence greatly but not enough to go out in close proximity to others. For that I really need to improve my makeup skills and voice.
Love your advice and tips.
Hugs and Smiles,
Jenny Dee
This is REALLY helpful, thank you!!! I’m still in the early stages of this new ‘me’, and can use all the help I can get!
Honey thank you so much for all of the tips you give, they are such a lifesaver. I am learning so much from you and I have been able to stay stealth better
Because of the pandemic, a lot of my makeup has become stale and needs to be replaced. I’m going to give Jecca Blac a try, especially since they offer free advice if I send them a selfie. I have terrible bags under my eyes (I’m 73.) If Jecca Blac can fix or minimize that problem, they’ve got a customer for life. 🙂
