Photos are a great way to share your female self with the world. And thanks to selfie apps and photo filters, it’s easier to look great than ever before.
Now, am I saying you should deceive people with heavily edited photos? Not at all!
However, photographers and celebrities have been retouching photos since the beginning of time…
There’s no reason why you can’t show yourself in the best light – especially if you don’t go overboard with the edits.
In this post, created specifically for transgender women and crossdressers, I share my top 5 MTF selfie apps and feminization photo editors guaranteed to make you look amazing.
Note that all of these apps offer free and full (paid) versions. While the paid versions will unlock more features, you can get plenty of mileage from the free versions as well.

Although I’ve used photo software to remove a a noticeable scar, and to add backgrounds, I’ve never retouched my face. I’m 78 in this photo and the only makeup I’m wearing is lipstick. I just try to be me, but I wouldn’t mind an app where I could try different wigs.
Please give me your opinion,
… just Carla , REAL, unretouched .
Wow!
And I said that out loud!
🙂
They look great Carla
I’ve always taken time to set up a selfie, including the lighting, so I haven’t used filters.
It’s a real pity you didn’t take the time to rotate it. 🙁
natural look xx
I’ve always been a “What you see is what you get” girl. xx
Tina, love this! You are beautiful and no filter needed! I’m happy to see that so many girls here agree with this sentiment.
Lucille, I understand that many of these ladies don’t need an app to look fantastic and they are perfectly satisfied with what they can accomplish without any apps, however the quality and clarity of todays apps along with the ability to try on hundreds of products without needing to purchase them seems like a great way to conserve your money and some apps even have an option which allows you to speak with a beauty expert for professional advice about your own products and application techniques. Besides the fact that most apps are available for free possibly the best feature of todays apps is that they are just a lot of fun!
I struggled for years with my image, I’d look in the mirror and just see a guy in a dress looking back at me.I still went out and never seemed to be mis-gendered as being male. It wasn’t until I was chosen to appear in a T.V. documentary that I realised that I am who I am and just accepted it. If it helps other “girls” to come to terms with their journey watch me on Youtube.

I sooo totally agree with you Tina…huggs
I’ve been too scared to use filter apps until recently because i was frightened of setting up unrealistic expectations.
I relented when a friend showed me FaceApp and it recognized me as “female”. She then convinced me to try just the makeup filters. What’s lovely about these is that do not change the shapes of my features: they don’t “feminize” like the gender / age changing filters on FaceApp do. So what i see is something that is truly realistic with makeup and indeed it is helping me to both hone my makeup skills and being much more specific about the shades and effects i want when i buy makeup. Here is a “side by side” from Faceapp, that shows the unfiltered and then the “madeup” version, so you can see more what i mean.
OMG I just installed it and although it didn’t think I was a girl (no surprise), when I switched genders it gave me an amazing hairstyle and my heart is just thumping, I never imagined I could look so good and I really do look female OMG OMG. Thank you for what you have done, without even realizing it, this is a huge step <3
so?
For me if the app recognized me as female if would me a massive affirmation also a big boost to self confidence, lucky you, maybe I should try it 🙂
Selena, you look amazing!
Thank you for inspiring me to try some new stuff.
I see me as an artist. That makes me happy to playing with styles. ^^

Selene, you look great! This is a great example of a tasteful, minimal filter. I agree completely that photo editing can lead to unrealistic expectations. On the other hand, playing around with makeup shades is fun and helpful!
Thanks so much Lucille, yes i really enjoy these makeup only filters. For the first time i could buy makeup and get an effect i was really happy with. I just took some FaceApp “side by side” pairs like the one to an artist that had really made an effort to help me out, but what was missing was a clear idea from me so she was groping in the dark for looks and colorschemes i might like.
What’s also lovely about these makeup only filters is that you are only working with your own features, and it helps me settle into myself: i begin to love my own features. I transitioned fulltime two years ago, and it has been an emotional whirlwind. FFS has been truly helpful, but it has also released a great deal of pain, because it restored the shape of my eyes and jaw i had before puberty, when i looked like a swarthier version of my sister and was “mistaken” for a girl by people who didn’t ken me. Although that’s exactly what i wanted, it also brought back terribly pained memories of a masculinizing puberty as i watched those features change, powerless to stop them. Playing around with the looks i now have and using makeup has helped center me in the now, helping me to be grateful for how i am and, although i don’t seek to hide from the grief that FFS has let slip in me (i indeed think it is very necessary to work through), the fun of makeup with what i have gives me a sense of what i have now, and allows me to process that grief from a place of happiness and strength that i can return to when it becomes overwhelming.
