Stepping out publicly as a woman is a powerful way to validate your female self.
In fact, I recently published a poll asking “How often do you go out in public as a woman?”
I was happy to see that the majority of my readers (transgender women and crossdressers) go out at least occasionally.
No matter how often you do it, I’m sure you can remember your first time presenting as a woman or crossdressing in public.
Since this is such an important gender-affirming step, I’d love to hear about it!
When was it? Where did you go? And what was your experience?
Please share with us in the comments below!
And if you’ve never been en femme in public, I’m sure you’ll find lots of inspiration in these stories.
As always, thank you for reading and participating!
Love,
Lucille

2 days ago, I had the most wonderful experience of my life: I actually gathered up the courage to go out in public as Jasmine, even though it was just to go to the grocery store. I was so nervous at first that I actually asked my roommate to come with me, but then, as I kept walking, I gained more and more confidence with each step. I felt so good and so feminine, just walking down the street completely crossdressed. I caught the eyes of a few people, but nobody even said anything about my outfit. This definitely gives me more confidence, and encourages me to want to dress as a woman a lot more often. Unfortunately though, on my walk back, I did slip once in my 5″ Kathy Van Zeeland platform stilettos, but I managed to regain my composure, and just kept walking. I also met a friend of mine, Carmen, on the walk back, and she said that I looked beautiful in my outfit, so that was another confidence boost.
To me, this was probably the most memorable thing I ever did in my entire life, and it makes me so happy that I was finally able to step out in public as Jasmine, and after this experience, I have absolutely no regrets being a crossdresser, and feeling like the beautiful and confident female I was born to be.
I have gone out a couple of times, in costume like to work for Halloween or to the Comic Con in my city. the first time I went out for real was when I registered for my Masters Program, I now dress for school and when I go to the game store to work on my writing projects. I am going to go to the store to try on a dress it will be the first time I have gone shopping as myself normal I go as a man.
well it was a few months ago when i first came out publicly. and over all it was a good experience. Yes i got funny looks, yes one jerk tried to pick a fight with me, but i was me. for the first time in my life i felt right, so i didnt care.
It has been many years since my first time out dressed as a woman. I have been read a few times but a lot more times not. If you act as a female, look as a female people do not go out their way to react to you. It is to a point now that people will call me ma’am even if I am not presenting myself em fem. I now can and do go anywhere as a female and I am accepted as a female. I even have have a job interview coming up where I am going totally as female.
That is great I hope you get the job. there are a few jobs I have applied for that if I get an interview I will be going as myself.
WoW–A job interview that you dare go dressed to??
Let us know how it goes please!

I was 20yrs old my first time out in public. I was to meet a couple of friends at a mall before going to a bar for a drink. I had on a blouse, slacks and, a pair of black flats. A very conservative but feminine look. What I experienced was the attention I received from all the men!
Aside from Halloween… Long drives down Interstate 5 gives me a chance to pretty up. While my girlfriend is behind the wheel I have my makeup kit out. A very necessary roadside rest stop, felt a several uncomfortable stares from a long line at the men’s room. I figured I would break the ice by waving my hand and said, ” Hi guys!” That went over like a ton of bricks. But you know what? No one really cares. Maybe amused. I am getting used to being out and about.
First time out, well this is a tough one. My first time out I was 23 living in the suburbs of Chicago. Once I put my hair on looked in the mirror and felt wonderful. I opened the front door, felt the cool breeze on my hairless pantyhosed covered legs and knew this was how I was supposed to be! Not much of an outing though as I went for a drive and then to a gas station to fill up. I never really interacted with anyone else until this year on a biz trip to California. I finally had the courage to go to a club.
The first time I went out in public was on Halloween 2011. I was dressed as daphne from scooby do. went with my spouse and another friend had a great time.
