Stepping out publicly as a woman is a powerful way to validate your female self.
In fact, I recently published a poll asking “How often do you go out in public as a woman?”
I was happy to see that the majority of my readers (transgender women and crossdressers) go out at least occasionally.
No matter how often you do it, I’m sure you can remember your first time presenting as a woman or crossdressing in public.
Since this is such an important gender-affirming step, I’d love to hear about it!
When was it? Where did you go? And what was your experience?
Please share with us in the comments below!
And if you’ve never been en femme in public, I’m sure you’ll find lots of inspiration in these stories.
As always, thank you for reading and participating!
Love,
Lucille

My first time out as a woman was when I went to wal mart.I was wearing a white silk blouse with womens blue jeans. The lady working there said I was beautiful. It was such a wonderful feeling of freedom to be the woman on the outside I have always felt I was on the inside.
i did my first outing today bto a shopping centre.had a night out look with heels(dirty stop out look).was ok but had a long hair wig and it was windy so that was a problem.biggest mistake was the heels, you really need to perfect the walk and build up the strength in your feet to carry this off perfectly.
Years ago I stepped out as a woman in public…. I am now happy to say that after realizing I was really to have born female… I am now a pre-op MTF and enjoying my life everyday as female….. When a cross dresser, I was frightened to say the least but eventually developed confidence
Sincerely,
Joanne
The first time the I when out as a woman I was by myself I had a black knee length dress with my 3in. heels on when to a kmart to some shopping for woman clothes and used the woman change room to try the dress on witch I did buy it at that time. Then I when to a fast food place to have lunch and nobody give a seconds look. It was a great day since I pass so easy.
First time as a woman was at night, with a supportive friend(female) we drove around for a while, stopped at 7eleven I went in browsed she took photos, i bought a drink and smokes, then we drove around a bit more and went into macdonalds. it was awesome, some people noticed, the girls at Macdonalds smiled and giggled a bit but they were nice about it.
The first time I went out was one of the most intense moments of my life as the night went on I was okay, I even got whistled at that help alot. I wish us girls could get together for a girls night out. That would be fun.

My First Time-Publicly….Hmm…I was Traveling for work…I decided to try out a local (Nashville,TN) café. The place was recommended by a Transgender Travel Site. I wore a Soft Cream 3/4 sleeve sweater and print skirt (medium heels for the notorious parking). As I arrived at the café, a man and woman were leaving. He noticed me walking to the door
and held the door for me. The woman with him commented she liked noticed my sweater and the gentleman said” Good evening Ma’am”…
My first time someone said anything like that… I smiled and said “Thank you”… I was thrilled… the waiter and staff also were very attentive, and the only problem was deciding which restroom to use before leaving…smiles…
Question… When Traveling… Does anyone else notice they feel an uncertainty when using a public restroom, or rest stop restroom…?
I try not to use the rest room in public unless its a single, one person, private restroom. Heard too many horror stories.
I do remember once using a “way-side” (Highway Roadside Rest Stop) Restroom…A Rainy evening around dinner time… I always choose one that has security officers on duty… this one was rather busy with the usual 5-6 women waiting in line to use the restroom toilets… A young woman noticed me in my London Fog Ladies trench coat, handbag, and matching heels. She commented that I needed an umbrella to keep my hair so nice…but she loved the coat and wanted to know where she could find one… we chatted like old friends waiting for “our turn”… when I was leaving… a security officer tipped his hat and smiled just outside on my way back to the car… it was wonderful… I felt as though I had finally been accepted…even though I don’t always feel I am Passable as I dress…
