Clothing can be a powerful way to affirm your gender as a crossdresser or transgender woman.
While there are guidelines for achieving a fashionable and feminine look, this doesn’t mean you should be a slave to the “rules.”
Many so-called fashion rules are outdated or just plain wrong!
Are you following these 5 male to female fashion rules? If so, it might be time to break them!
Rule #1: Dress As Feminine As Possible
Nobody pulls off the feminine look quite like transgender celeb, Gigi Gorgeous. But that doesn’t mean everybody needs to dress this way!
The beauty of fashion is that you can express yourself however you want.
Whether your style is tomboyish, androgynous, or ultra feminine, anything goes. So, enjoy your individuality and dress however you want!
Rule #2: Don’t Go Without Shapewear
Shaping your body with breast forms, a corset, and hip pads can create a stunning hourglass silhouette.
When you want to feel like a bombshell, shapewear is a girl’s best friend!
But remember, you don’t have to wear all these pieces every time you dress up. Comfort should be your priority.
Wear what makes you feel fantastic, and don’t hesitate to skip the rest.
Rule #3: Always Wear High Heels
While high heels are undoubtedly sexy and feminine, there’s no rule that says you must wear them all the time.
Flats can be equally alluring if you want to be comfy, or if you’re on the tall side and don’t want to accentuate your height.
Love the look of heels but don’t want to go all out? A kitten heel (1″-2″ tall) looks elegant and can help feminize your walk – without the pain of stilettos.
Rule #4: Dress Like The Women In Your Area
I often talk about how helpful it is to observe cisgender (genetic) women. If your goal is to blend in, it’s a good idea to adhere to the style norms in your area.
However, you might have noticed that many women dress sloppily or put little effort into their appearances. If that’s not your style, don’t feel obliged to follow suit.
Look as fabulous as you want… and maybe they will start to follow your lead!
Rule #5: You Must Always Match
There are so many choices in women’s clothing that putting outfits together can be daunting.
While you should always look coordinated, forget about old fashioned rules that say you must match from head to toe. Not only is this boring, it tends to look costumey and dated.

Lucille,
Thanks as always for the great articles; such awesome advice for us girls.
So far, I’ve only dressed up at home, though I have gone out walking late at night in my neighborhood dressed up to get some confidence to get out of the house. I hope to go out to a club this summer and maybe even go out shopping during the day.
I do pay attention to the cis gender girls around here to see what they’re wearing so I can buy clothes that will let me blend in better, which is what I’ve after more so than “passing.” I agree that I don’t need to dress as feminine as possible. I like to just be casual, but I do see plenty of women who don’t pay much attention to their appearance and I don’t want to look like them. I like to wear shapewear to make my chubby body a little more feminine in closer fitting clothes and while I like to wear heels, they get tiring after a while, so I keep a pair of flats for comfort. I certainly don’t have a bunch of matching outfits with all the accessories to go with them, so I just try to find stuff that works well enough together.
Here’s some pictures of me from last summer. Let me know what you think.
Hugs,
Meg
Your doing very well Megan , Most of us , do not have an unlimited amount of cash lying around although that would be wonderful . But this makes us more Careful and Frugal as to watch our style and be more attentive as to what we spend our money. Thank you Joan! I appreciate the words of encouragement.
Good outfits. The only probem is hair shade in the face. I would like to recommend you elos epilation which is the less painful and just enough effective. Especcially if you find french or spain cosmetics clinic which are the best in the world in this kind of epilation.
Thank you Margo for the advice – I’ll look into that!

HI LUCILLE
THANKS FOR YOUR LATEST ENTILED 5 MTF FASHION RULES WORTH BREAKING. RULE NO ALWAYS WEAR HIGH HEELS.
AS YOU KNOW ,THAT LADIES AND MEN FEET SIZES ARE DIFFRENT.
HOW WILL I GET THE RIGHT HIGH HEELS FOR MY FEET SIZE. MY FEET SIZE IN CM ARE 27.5 CM {FROM TOE TO HEEL} .WHAT SIZE LADIES HIGH HEEL WILL FIT FOR MY FEET SIZE.
I HOPE HEAR FROM YOU SOON
MICHELLE 1
Shoe sizes are arbitrary, so don’t rely on just a number. Go into stores, such as Torrid, and get fitted properly, especially at first. DSW, Clark’s, Rockport and others can help with wider widths.
Hi Michelle – usually, you can add two shoe sizes to your normal male shoe to get a woman’s size. I.e., if you wear a size men’s 9 shoe, you would get a woman’s size 11. Also, if you google say “male to female shoe conversion size”, there are a number of sites that will give you the information your looking for. I personally, go into shoe stores myself to try on shoes, just to make sure as well. But that’s just me. Good luck!
Your foot conversion is about a size 11US inches. Womens Shoes are normally around two sizes larger than men’s shoes, if this is correct then you need about a size 13 US OR A Size 33cm UK.That would be my estimate If a 27.5cm is lose on you, then you might want to go to a half size smaller. You can always have a shoe stretched a bit. Better to have it just a tad snug than lose , Helps prevent Blisters. Hope this was of some help Good luck Girl. Ps Amazon sells shoe and Boot Stretchers.
In our area of Eastern Europe where the metric system in cm the difference between men and women is half of size. I don’t forget how male shoes look like because don’t wear this kind of shoes since July 2012 when I have burnt all my male clothes and shoes as anathema in the holy fire and have prayed to the Mother Goddess of Nature as a point of no return.
Great tips all around. I simply love the short shorts and I pull them off with a flowy top, not to veil my belly (which is not big), but to soften my broad shoulders.
I am a fan spandex shorts, but I do need to tuck to get away with those. No other shapewear needed there as my body tends to nicely curve in those areas.
Thanks for sharing! <3
I wear what’s is fun. Don’t follow the “age appropriate” rule, but get quite a few positive comments none-the-less. Forever 21 is my favorite shop even though I’m retired and well past my 20’s–I almost can remember my 20’s, but not quite.
I used to feel the need for all the silicone hip, thigh, butt pads, corset, skirt, hose, high heels, the works. But I live in the Arizona desert and I would pour sweat walking to my car leaving the house!! Now, I wear a little make up, jeans, a baggy shirt to cover my lack of curves and I’m comfortable and nobody looks at me. This is me putting away groceries after a trip to the store. Can’t wait for my SRS!!
I am a 60 year old post Transgender female. I was actually born with both male and female characteristics. My parents never helped when I was young so at age 59 I was able to get the corrections I needed to become one gender and since my anatomy was more feminine I choose to become female. I have a hard time believe that anyone can honestly say they are the opposite sex unless there is medical evidence saying they are to prove it. I just don’t buy anyone saying they are transgender and they where born in the wrong body needing surgery to correct there problem. It is also unfair to an individual who falls in love with them. They should have to wear dog tags with all this information. Anyway I am sorry but this is how I feel.
Thanks
Michele
Michelle, you look amazing. I am MTF too and now at one step to have F64 and to do further actions.
Sheesh Michelle! Kind of a buzz kill post. Sorry, but I have always felt like I should have been born a girl. I just feel so much more natural when I am being my female self than the male part of me. It’s just who I am. I now live my life 24/7 as a woman and love it. I’m retired and 72 and not looking back to life as a man. Here I am the other day. I love my life now.
Hi Michelle – for some reason there is not a reply link to your reply to me. But if there are any others out there, does my bone structure look male? I don’t think so. I am female. I can’t believe you would say that. Any others out there want to respond? Thanks, Suzy
You look fine but look at our bone structure it will never be female. A young man before puberty has a chance if taking hormones because the body naturally goes through change. I. Can’t believe what she is trying to teach or sell us but she makes a lot of money doing it.if you are young she can be a lot of help. But if you are truly a woman then you learn as you grow up by watching other girls and imitating them. When you go to gym class and get beat up then you know you are doing it right. Now truthfully isn’t that how you learned?I did. This site is Strickly for young men coming out and having lots of support and are still able to change there bodies and spend tons on surgeries to make their bodies conform. Face it if God wanted us to be women he would have done so
Holding up Great. Keep up the good work.
