Clothing can be a powerful way to affirm your gender as a crossdresser or transgender woman.
While there are guidelines for achieving a fashionable and feminine look, this doesn’t mean you should be a slave to the “rules.”
Many so-called fashion rules are outdated or just plain wrong!
Are you following these 5 male to female fashion rules? If so, it might be time to break them!
Rule #1: Dress As Feminine As Possible
Nobody pulls off the feminine look quite like transgender celeb, Gigi Gorgeous. But that doesn’t mean everybody needs to dress this way!
The beauty of fashion is that you can express yourself however you want.
Whether your style is tomboyish, androgynous, or ultra feminine, anything goes. So, enjoy your individuality and dress however you want!
Rule #2: Don’t Go Without Shapewear
Shaping your body with breast forms, a corset, and hip pads can create a stunning hourglass silhouette.
When you want to feel like a bombshell, shapewear is a girl’s best friend!
But remember, you don’t have to wear all these pieces every time you dress up. Comfort should be your priority.
Wear what makes you feel fantastic, and don’t hesitate to skip the rest.
Rule #3: Always Wear High Heels
While high heels are undoubtedly sexy and feminine, there’s no rule that says you must wear them all the time.
Flats can be equally alluring if you want to be comfy, or if you’re on the tall side and don’t want to accentuate your height.
Love the look of heels but don’t want to go all out? A kitten heel (1″-2″ tall) looks elegant and can help feminize your walk – without the pain of stilettos.
Rule #4: Dress Like The Women In Your Area
I often talk about how helpful it is to observe cisgender (genetic) women. If your goal is to blend in, it’s a good idea to adhere to the style norms in your area.
However, you might have noticed that many women dress sloppily or put little effort into their appearances. If that’s not your style, don’t feel obliged to follow suit.
Look as fabulous as you want… and maybe they will start to follow your lead!
Rule #5: You Must Always Match
There are so many choices in women’s clothing that putting outfits together can be daunting.
While you should always look coordinated, forget about old fashioned rules that say you must match from head to toe. Not only is this boring, it tends to look costumey and dated.

Hi. How extremely spot-on is the message from your blog. That Rules can be broken. For example, I have purchased a number of essentials from Glamour Boutique, which have included an extremely pronounced ‘enhanced hips and butt padded panty’, and I always don this to formal events, but just going about my everyday business (food shopping) wouldn’t get me to wear it.
Short shorts. I love them. In fact I have many pairs of them. I have been told by many people that girls don’t wear them here and I shouldn’t either. No, you shouldn’t wear them if you had legs like mine you would want to show them off too. I love wearing them. They make me feel so very happy and feminine.
I can’t say too much on fashion, but that it’s a very personal thing. I dress cassual, wearing flats (ballerina flats), but it works for me.
Experiment all you want, but try to do it in the confines of local style. Here’s an example: I like to dress nice in a skirt and pantyhose sometimes, but trust me, you DON’T wear pantyhose in the summertime in Arkansas. But, bare legs work.
It’s also important to accent when you dress. If your belly is a problem, and shape wear isn’t available, try long, flowing tops, that break up the problem areas.
But most of all, DON’T be afraid to experiment within reason. What works for you may be a clue to what fashion you should follow.
Best of luck!!
Great tips all around. I simply love the short shorts and I pull them off with a flowy top, not to veil my belly (which is not big), but to soften my broad shoulders.
I am a fan spandex shorts, but I do need to tuck to get away with those. No other shapewear needed there as my body tends to nicely curve in those areas.
Thanks for sharing! <3
I’m not big into dresses and heels myself. I do wear them occasionally. My go to outfits are usually something athletic, some shorts (The shorter the better), t-shirt, tank top. I overheat very easily so often this ensemble is out of place since I live in the Mountains of Washington State. A loose fitting sweat shirt tossed over my top tends to blend well for the occasion.
Oh! And bright or white tennis shoes with a dark sole. But the most accessorized item in my closet is my socks. Scrunchie, tube, no-show, solid colors, stripes.
I love the look of pigtails on more feminine faces, but sadly this is one area I’m very self conscious about. Usually I opt for a simple sweatband to round out my face and leave my hair down.
I agree that rules can and should be broken when it comes to dress and style. I dress the way I like to dress whether it be casual or stylish. I love designer clothes and lingerie. They make me feel so feminine but feeling feminine is not just about high heels and shape wear. Rules in my case are simply a guide.
Please see the photo attached for one of my favourite outfits. It is a formal dress by Ian Stuart of London. I wore this at a friend’s wedding.

You look marvelous. You had to feel incredible in that from both the sensations of the clothings as well as how good you look.
I so love your dress. Like you, I just love to dress in formals. I have at least 15 now and still counting. You look just fabulous.
Hugs
Paula
Thank you for your advise. I ‘d like to know how to go outside as a crossdresser
Open the door and do it. Depending upon how feminine you want to look, you can start by underdressing, then graduate to androgynous outer clothes. If you want to dress in skirts or dresses, wear hight heels, put on make-up and a wig and maybe try to pass, that takes time, effort, knowledge, imagination, money, and practice.
Very good finds: Venus, Just Fab & Her Room, also Chadwick’s of Boston. Dress Barn has slacks, tops & looking through catalogs what you wear with various colors look & male you look femme vs. looking sloppy & unattractive.
I love all of your articles. They are very helpful in so many ways
