The jawline is one of the biggest giveaways between a male and female face.
While plenty of beautiful women have strong jawlines, a softer, more delicate jawline is often seen as more feminine.
The good news? You can soften and feminize your jawline without surgery.
In this post, I share 10 easy MTF jaw feminization tips for crossdressers and transgender women. Read on to learn more!
The Differences Between Male and Female Jawlines

Let’s start by looking at the differences between male and female jawlines:
- Male jawlines are usually larger and more pronounced, with chins that are angular and square.
- On the other hand, female jawlines tend to be softer, with chins that are more rounded in shape.
MTF Jaw Feminization: 10 Ways to Get a More Feminine Jawline Without Surgery
1. Use contouring makeup

Contouring makeup is a great way to soften the look of your jawline. With the right technique, you can reduce strong angles and create a more feminine appearance.
Here’s how to contour your jawline:
- Select a contour powder or cream that’s two shades darker than your skin tone.
- Apply it along the outer jawline, starting below your ears and moving toward your chin (as shown in the diagram above).
- Blend thoroughly to create a natural-looking shadow.

2. Go for soft hairstyles

A soft hairstyle can help downplay a masculine-looking jawline.
Wavy, layered styles work well to gently drape over the jawline, softening the angles and making it less noticeable.
To avoid drawing attention to the jawline, steer clear of hairstyles that are too short or have blunt edges.
3. Wear long earrings

Long, dangling earrings are a great way to lengthen the face and create a slimming effect, which helps soften the look of the jawline.
For the best results, choose earrings that hang past the jawline to draw attention away from the sides of your face.
4. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks

When applying blush, the right placement can help soften the appearance of your jawline:
- Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks to create a softer, more feminine look that draws attention away from the jaw.
- Avoid placing blush below the cheekbones, as this can highlight the angles of your face.
Also, don’t blend it too far out to the sides, as this can make your face look wider and emphasize the jawline.
5. Use a bold lip color

Bold lip colors can help give your face a more feminine look.
While they won’t change the shape of your jawline or chin, bold lips draw attention away from those areas.
By making your lips the focal point, other features, like the jaw or chin, become less noticeable.
6. Opt for open necklines

The right neckline on a top can make a big difference in how your jawline looks.
High necklines draw attention to the jaw and chin, which isn’t ideal if you want to downplay those areas.
Instead, choose tops with open necklines. Lower necklines, in particular, help create the illusion of a slimmer face and longer neck.
7. Try a soft, smokey eye

Smokey eye makeup creates a sexy, sultry look and gives the face a softer appearance compared to bold eyeliner or harsh makeup.
Using softer makeup techniques can help soften your overall look, drawing attention away from a square or strong jawline.
8. Highlight your hair

Adding highlights to your hair (or choosing a wig with highlights) is a simple way to soften the angles of your face. Highlights add depth and create a more flattering look.
One option is the ombré style, where the hair gradually lightens toward the ends. This subtle gradient draws the eye downward, making your face look longer and slimmer.
In contrast, hair that’s a single, solid color can sometimes appear harsh and flat.
9. Try wearing a hat or sunglasses

This trick can help draw attention away from your chin and jawline.
When shopping for sunglasses, go for round shapes and avoid square styles. Sunglasses that are wider than your face can make it look narrower.
For hats, choose one with a narrow brim or a high crown to create the illusion of a slimmer face.
10. Try Botox

The size of your jaw is mainly shaped by your bones and muscles. While you can’t reduce bone size without surgery, there’s a non-surgical option if your jaw looks bigger due to strong muscles.
Overactive masseter muscles can create a square, masculine jawline. Botox injections in these muscles can reduce their size, giving you a softer, more feminine jawline.
In Conclusion
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to soften and feminize your jawline without surgery.
The key is to draw attention away from these areas and highlight your best features instead.

I love your advise. It’s so helpful to an older trans like me! LOVE YOU!
Indeed Joan,re changed perspectives,in my previous life a friend complemented me for my strong jawline compared to his.I’m sure he was a little envious.I remember feeling quite pleased with myself.Little did I know that one day I would be considering surgery to correct that ‘strong’ jawline
All good points
Funny how perspectives change. In another lifetime, I used to be disappointed in my less-manly jawline. Now I’m grateful. Still have some improvements to make elsewhere, but that’s one less. The chin and jawline are big giveaways to being read. Even on some women, it’s hard to be sure of their gender due to that.
Just a lil makeup only nothing big. Learning what to highlight helps.
No doubt about it – in some cases a man’s masculine facial features are so prominent as to belie attempts at feminine presentation. Softer or more feminine facial features are important and these recommendations Lucille spells likely help mask the more rugged or jagged male jawline but, to me, some males may require botox or surgical solutions to be completely visually convincing ( depends on level of blending in or passability that is desired ).
