If you have facial hair, then you know how hard it can be to hide a beard shadow – and how much it can detract from your feminine appearance.
Transgender women and crossdressers are often told to use heavy concealer, but this is totally wrong!
Thick concealer creates a heavy, cakey look that can draw even more attention to the areas you want to hide.
So what’s a girl to do? I’m glad you asked! In this post, I’ll share 4 beard cover makeup items to use in place of that heavy concealer.
I also share a step-by-step video tutorial on how to hide your beard shadow with minimal makeup for a natural, feminine look.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. Pink or Red Color Corrector
The first piece of beard cover makeup you should own is a color corrector. This is the #1 secret to hiding a beard shadow. By neutralizing the bluish tint of the beard shadow, you can achieve a natural look with less makeup.
Choose your color corrector based on your skin tone:
- Use a pink color corrector if you have a light skin tone.
- Use a red color corrector if you have a darker skin tone.
While your best bet is to use a color corrector specifically formulated for the face, another option is to use a matte pink or red lipstick.
Apply it: Use a small makeup brush to stipple a light layer of color corrector over the areas you want to disguise.
2. Medium Coverage Liquid Foundation
The next must-have item is liquid foundation. Choose a medium coverage foundation rather than a heavy formula. It’s best to apply several thin layers to build coverage rather than using one thick layer of heavy foundation.
Apply it: For pro results, apply with a foundation brush instead of your fingers or a sponge. Brush on a light layer and allow it to try. If you want more coverage, go back and stipple additional foundation over the areas of concern. (See the video for a demo!)
3. Loose Powder
The third item you’ll need in your beard cover makeup arsenal is a loose powder. Choose a powder with pigment as opposed to a translucent version.
Apply it: Use a large powder brush and dab on a generous layer of powder. Don’t use stroking motions or you’ll streak your foundation. Once everything has dried, you can brush off the excess powder with soft strokes.
4. Powder Foundation
If you have a light beard, the previously mentioned items might be enough. If not, the final step is to get an additional layer of coverage by using a powder foundation.
You can find powder foundation at any drug store or makeup counter. This is a great option for areas that need extra coverage.
Apply it: Using a makeup sponge, press on one or two light layers of powder foundation over any remaining visible imperfections and voilà! Your transformation is complete.
Be sure to watch the video below to learn exactly how to apply your beard cover makeup.

i said to heck with it and got laser treatment for most of the hair on my body. is expensive and will be needed more than once! i have a lot of white hair the laser didn’t get so now i’m doing electrolysis.. luckily i have skills i am trading for the treatment. figure over time it will be equivalent of more than a few thousand dollars.
Body hair is a different issue. Hormones will not affect the facial hair growth, but on the body will revert to a female growth pattern. Women have hair on their arms and legs. This is natural, and the legs are usually waxed or shaved. I pluck. I use a optiPro by Emjoi that has rows of tweezers on a revolving head that plucks the hair out. It takes a while to get the full benefits, but now I can go 3 weeks before needing to remove the hair from my legs. I don’t bother with my arms, that is light enough, and looks normal. While the rest of my body hair has stopped growing. For armpits and bikini line, see the taboo blog.

Hi all! My secrets, that aren’t secret anymore, are bleaching with Sally Hanson’s Extra Strength Creme Bleach before shaving, then I use a new 4 blade razor, shaving against the grain. Then, when I apply my makeup I use an orange lipstick to neutralize the blue of the beard, apply powder, then foundation. This method works gangbusters! Just be sure to wait at least an hour bleaching before shaving to aviod irritation. Best of luck!

Hey Blair have you tried vaniqa. Best stuff since sliced bread.
Wow, Blair! I hadn’t heard of the bleach technique. That is a great idea!! Does the bleach get under the skin enough to eliminate the shadow effect?
Thank You! for the beard cover tips! I hav that problem myself.
I so LOVE dressing, looking, BEING a girl/female!!!
It IS so me!!

My tip is don’t skimp on the shaver. And give
yourself a military inspection. The five blade
razors give the best shave and will get you kissably
smooth. Use a good gel and pre-heat the beard
with warm water or a warm towel to set up the
beard. Be beautiful! Denise
Hello everyone, many years ago I began a different shaving technique that has allowed me greater exposure time without the “shadow” returning. I shave normally the first time, then with a new blade, I shave again against the direction of growth. Shaving with the grain as most men do is necessary however, shaving up the face will allow a much greater time of exposure in public without notice. Have a great day! Gen
I find that shaving with a gel not a foam is the best three hours before going out and i use aloe gel after, i use a damp cloth to wipe my face and then use a loose powder foundation, the foundation tends to adhere to the aloe gel in the skin surface. it looks real natural after your makeup ritual is done what ever you do. learn that the mirror in your bathroom is not the light you will be seen in, so do what you need to do to shade and apply in the right light. if your going to go outdoors do you application near a window don’t do your make up in the car mirror it refracts light and does not give real tone, and girls please blend and shade the foundation and makeup down your neck otherwise it looks like a mask,It shows real bad in the dark of a club or resaurant. LOve from FL Daniele
very nice makeup triks Dear. Thankyou.
That’s a great tip about not doing makeup in the car mirror since it reflects light and doesn’t give the real tone. Thanks!
I’ve been doing electrolysis for one year now. I should nearly be finished in three months. Right now, after three days of not shaving, what I do have left is practically invisible. Thankfully too, as I have been living full time for three months. 🙂
Hey Girls, The first step in curving the beard issue is to start Hormone…….Herbs………. and stay away from meats and any male foods. I’ve made my skin much softer and smooth by washing with proper cleansers and facial mask with plenty of facial cream ,,, especially during day time hours with the harsh sun & wind ….. You girls just need to start and your face will become smoother faster than what you think.
Hai Dear you are giving wonderful advice for TG girls lile me. Thankyou Dear.
