It’s amazing how much our names shape our identities. Some names feel like a perfect fit from the start, while others never quite resonate with us.
However, crossdressers and transgender women have the unique opportunity to choose their own feminine names.
Every great MTF name has a story behind it, and I’d love to hear YOURS.
How did you choose your feminine name?
Please tell us your story in the comments below, and if you can, share a photo too. It’s always lovely to put a face to a name!

Lucille
When I was young my sister and I played house and I was always the wife and mom, she would call me Deb. and the name just stuck.
Many years later when I had my name and gender change she laughed and said she figured I would use that name.
i came about my femme name fairly easy i think ? since my father and i have the same names, and he never really cared about me , i did not want to carry on with his name, anf my other choice for my name was to be Fran i just added ces on the back of it and got Frances
Hi Everybody!!
So, I was given my fem name by a girlfriend and it simply made sence to me. My birth name is Bret and my fem name is Brenda. Just remove the t from Bret and add nda!! But I always hated my male name growing up, almost as much as haircuts!! LoL I Love my fem name and am now used to it after hearing it for the last 40, I mean 20, I mean 10 years!!!
I wanted to feel elegant and competent. A woman is control of her own life. Joanne says that to me.
It had the added benefit of preserving my initials.
Hi Joanne,
I just wanted to tell you that you are a gorgeous girl!! I luv the photo you posted of yourself. You know us girls must stick together and a compliment is always welcome with me!!
I chose my name for a number of reasons.
Firstly, it was an homage to my first crush so many years ago.
Secondly, it was to be sure that it was not a name that was a feminization of a male name as I see so many of us do. I did not want this identity to be related to my male side in any way.
Thirdly, I just love the name.

My Aunt’s name was Dorothy, which I don’t believe is as popular today. She is gone now, but her name lives on.
Dorothy
My first name means a new beginning and it was close to my male name(Don).
Marie was my sister’s middle name. She passed in 2008. I decided to honor her memory.
Hi Dawn,
That’s a beautiful story, very touching!! And my sister’s name is Dawn!
Hugs, Brenda
