Do you think looking your best as a trans woman or crossdresser means that you need a head-to-toe makeover – or even feminizing surgery?
It doesn’t! Looking beautiful often comes down to a few simple changes.
Of course, the basics are important. Nice hair and makeup, flattering clothes, and a reasonably fit body are a great starting point.
But beyond that, it’s the details that can make or break your feminine image.
Want to look better right now? Here are 7 simple ways to improve your MTF appearance:
1. Find Your Best Lipstick Shade
One of the easiest ways to improve your appearance is to wear lipstick. A Manchester University study proved that women are perceived as more attractive when they wear lipstick – regardless of the rest of their appearance.
The secret is to wear the right shade of lipstick. Here are two quick tips for selecting your best shade:
- Use your eyes as a guide. For the most flattering look, your lips should be the same intensity as the iris of your eye. (The iris is the colored part of your eye.) For example, if you have light blue eyes, wear a light shade of lipstick. If you have dark brown eyes, a deeper shade will be most flattering.
- Do the fingertip test. To easily test lipstick shades, put different colors on your fingertips and hold them against your mouth to see which looks best.
2. Groom Your Eyebrows
Your eyebrows literally create the frame for your face. For better or for worse, they have the power to transform your entire look.
The good news is that there’s a lot you can do to shape and feminize your eyebrows – even if you can’t pluck. Check out my post on MTF Eyebrows | How to Feminize Male to Female Eyebrows to learn more.
3. Invest In A Great Bag
Women often judge each other based on their handbags. After all, why do women in certain circles pay thousands of dollars for the latest “it” bag?
I’m not saying you need to buy a Gucci purse, but investing in a quality handbag will add polish and style to your appearance – while giving you fashionista status among other women.
4. Get Rid Of Excess Body Hair
The truth is, physical attractiveness often comes down to good grooming. One of the keys to good grooming – and a feminine appearance – is to get rid of excess body hair.
You already know that your beard, chest hair, and hairy legs have to go. But don’t forget about the less obvious spots, including your:
- Nose
- Ears
- Knuckles
- Toes

5. Wear The Right Shapewear
The right shapewear can have a dramatic effect on your silhouette. It smooths out excess flesh and helps to feminize your proportions.
The best shapewear for you depends on your outfit and how much shaping you need. Consider investing in the following garments:
- Control top pantyhose. Perfect for smoothing out your trouble spots, they also add polish and definition to the legs.
- Waist cincher. Use this when you need extra shaping in the middle and want to carve out an hourglass shape.
- Shaping camisole. Wear one under your everyday clothes to smooth your belly and love handles.
6. Whiten Your Teeth
Yellow teeth dull your appearance. Don’t underestimate the impact of pretty white teeth. A white smile brightens up your entire face!
I suggest using a whitening toothpaste daily and doing a whitening treatment every six months. There are some great at-home options, including:
7. Get Enough Sleep
They don’t call it beauty rest for nothing. A lack of sleep shows up on your face – no matter how pretty and feminine you look. Make it a priority to get plenty of sleep at night.
Need help falling or staying asleep? Check out my Sleep and Sparkle Program. This unique program combines sleep hypnosis with feminizing suggestions to improve your sleep AND your feminine transformation.
Small changes add up to big improvements
The bottom line is that there are a LOT of ways to improve your appearance without having to invest in a new wardrobe, hire a transformation service, or go under the knife.
Little changes can have a big impact on your feminine image!
These 7 tips are a great place to start, but now I’d like to hear from YOU…

Confidence is key.
I so agree with you Kirra! I pretty much live as a woman 24/7 and just go about my business with the idea of just blending in as any normal woman would do on her daily grocery shopping, going out to eat, shopping, etc. I’ve never been questioned and always am treated like a lady where ever I go.
i to live as a trans woman 24/7, we all have our bad hair days, when you need to step out but lack that energy , what i get is nothing, no comments on my shoes hair cloths just nothing.it makes you feel shameful like you let woman hood down,.

Thats great Suzie, your even far more adventuerous than I am! I would luv to do that stuff, but just can’t seem to get the nerve to go shopping in femme, even though everyone says Im passable. Just would hate to be discovered! If I had someone to go with I would but havent found em yet!! Bye!
Definitely.
This helped greatly. I did shave my body. Still need more cloths, makup. Short skirts.
Thanks,
Nikki
I’ve gone out without makeup and still do alright. The secret is that you have to act like a woman, without over doing it. I don’t really “pass” but I get accepted as female a lot.
Loved you article and always look forward to the tips you provide. I purchased your Makeup course and it has really helped. I feel more secure and confident when I go out.
Big Hugs for all you do for us
I love your site and your tips but what about ppl who aren’t looking to fully transition or dress girlie most of the time. I’m looking for advice on how to find a happy medium between both sides of myself. I’m a good looking guy and I still love being a guy but I have and will always love to dress and feel like a girl. This is where I have always been conflicted, I like being a guy but I’ve always felt like a girl in my soul. If anyone has want advice on how I can find this peace of mind please let me know
Thanks
Hi D.
I have no idea how long ago you posted this comment, as I have only been coming to Lucilles’ site since May of 2017.
This is an internal conflict we all deal with. But we are not alone, as long as we have sites like this.
I also have another side to me. He has to live and work as a man 99.5 % of the time. He allows me to come out and play as often as he can. So at 59 y.o. He and I have been discussing this for a very long time. He agrees I should be out more. So we came to the agreement to share as much as we can.
I hope you have come to terms with your own conflicts about all this.
This post touched my heart more than the average one here. I was there too. And as a professional actor, I had to look beyond even questionable as a guy. In my time off though, I would wear what I called my stealth outfits. i.e. wear girls jeans, all my undies of course and hosiery as soon as it was cool enough to have another layer on without being too warm, most tops, like in the style of pullovers as long as they fit right, sneakers can be fem too. Sandals can be gotten away with but if you paint your toes you need closed toe style. I stuck with bland colors too, navy, brown, black, blue for the most part. Nothing that would cause a second glance. In the summer, shorts are very easy to do too, as are tee shirts and tanks. You can even get away with makeup and fragrance if you choose correctly and can use them in strict moderation.
Personally, I wear what I want , when I want now as I live it full time except now I am a union actress instead of the union actor that I was.
You touched my heart because I defined myself the way you do. I fought it for a long time. I can’t do it any more. It caused me alot of mental health problems. Now I am happy all the time and went from several shrinks a week to 1 monthly. So I have to end with this a bit of unrequested advice. If these tips and techniques don’t , “do it” for you, it means you have to look deeper into your soul.
