Your walk is a critical aspect of your female image. Learning how to walk in a naturally feminine way can do wonders to enhance your overall appearance.
Unfortunately, it’s easy to go from one extreme (a masculine walk) to the other (over-exaggerated hip swinging).
How can you find a happy medium as you master your feminine movements? I’m glad you asked!
In this article, I share 3 simple tips to help you achieve a natural, womanly walk. Read on to learn more!
1. Try the Hip Matrix
A big difference between men and women is that women tend to have more fluid body movements.
That means you can sway your hips all you want – but until you learn how to “loosen up” your body, your feminine walk will look stiff and unnatural.
The Hip Matrix can help with this. Created by movement specialist Rob Brinded, the Hip Matrix exercise is designed to release tension and free up your body movements so you can achieve a flowing, feminine walk.
Watch the video above and then try it for yourself. If you compare your walk before and after, I promise you’ll be amazed by the difference!
P.S. You can learn more about Rob’s approach to feminine movement in my Stepping Out Secrets Program.
2. Practice in High Heels
Women have a lower center of gravity than men due to their wider hips. This creates that sexy hip sway that’s characteristic of a feminine walk.
Forcing your hips to sway usually looks unnatural. Instead, practice walking in high heels. High heels change your center of gravity and exaggerate the forward curve of your spine. This helps release the hips, which naturally feminizes your movements.
You can enhance this effect by trying to keep your shoulders still as you walk. This forces you to use your hips for balance.
Once you’ve mastered hip walking in heels, practice the same movements in flat shoes.
3. Shorten Your Stride
Shortening your stride is another easy and effective way to feminize your walk.
The average woman’s step length (the distance from the toe of one foot to the toe of the opposite foot) is 26”. So if you want to be scientific about it, get out a ruler and measure your steps! Your natural stride is probably longer, so work on taking shorter steps.
Note: The higher your heels are, the shorter your steps should be.
Conclusion
There are other subtle elements that define a feminine walk, but these tips are a great place to start. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
I’d also love to hear about any other movement tips or techniques you’ve found helpful. Please share in the comments below.

P.S. Would you like to learn more advanced feminine movement strategies? My Stepping Out Secrets Program will show you how to master all the elements of a beautiful feminine image, including: moves, curves, fashion, beauty, voice, confidence, and more!
Instead of leading each step with your foot or worse yet your shoulders (like a man), try leading with your hip then your knee and let your foot follow. I have to think about it a bit myself sometimes to get started (because the motion happens so quickly), but with practice it should become more natural. I find it gives your walk a nice feminine sway.
I was thinking the same thing as Melody. By using a hard back book on top of your head, like they did in the old days. And I have the same problem as Lesley. Being a big girl with big thighs it’s hard to keep my legs together when I sit, or to cross them. I also have bad ankles so my Dr. advised against me wearing high heels. But still wear them, I’m just extra careful and don’t wear any heels over 3.5 inches.
girls wedge heels are very popular right now and incredible easy to walk in they have the flat bottom but but wedge makes them fun to wear. i ve been wearing heels for years now (not everyday) so walking in them is easy for me now but i do love the fun and styles of the wedges and they range in different heights. so if you are just starting out take a look at them. thanks Lucille great forum but question do you know of program to create better looking butts. exercise does work but i seem to plateaued. thanks again Lisa D.
Hi Lucille,
I have improved my feminine walk by wearing 4 inch heels with a pencil skirt. A female friend of mine told me that I walk very well in high heels but I was taking too big of a step. She suggested that I wear pencil skirts to shorten my gait. This has helped me tremendously. I enjoy your advice and thank you for being there for all of us girls.
Love,
Terry
Great advice, as always. I gotta admit, I do love my heels, and I do like how they make me feel more fluid and feminine. Considering the leers I get, I guess I’m not the only one who likes it when I wear them.
love you and website ! i love to dress up . if only more women where like you and your staff yes i love women more than most men!! love ya girl ! thanks
It’s instructive and fun to watch women walk. But then you see that there are a zillion ways it’s done. Ya gotta find the way that works best for YOU. Much of the difference is due to anatomy (duuhh!). Most women’s hip joints are slightly forward of their centerline, which produces that hip roll. It’s interesting to try to emulate that, but hard to make it look natural. With experiment and practice, your best walk will emerge, especially by following Lucille’s great advice. It really helps to use a mirror, or better yet, a video camera, for feedback. with a video, you can see yerself from the rear. Heels really do help, but I’m so tall I often use flats when I don’t want to stand out too much. My biggest problem is remembering to do all the right things when out (sigh). Someday it will all be natural and I will only rarely need to think about it….
hi Lucille
your work is magic and beautiful
