Are you excited to embrace your fabulous female self? Having the right tools is key!
While some transgender / crossdressing supplies are obvious, there are important items you might not have considered that can help you look and feel your best as a woman.
In this blog post, I share 10 must-have essentials for your male to female transformation journey.
1. Breast Forms
Breasts are arguably the most feminine part of a woman’s body.
If you don’t possess your own natural curves, then investing in a pair of breast forms is a must for any crossdresser or transgender woman. (Of course, you’ll also need a cute bra to put them in!)
2. Color Corrector
Dealing with a visible beard shadow can be a major challenge in putting your best face forward.
Although it may be tempting to camouflage it with thick concealer, the result never appears natural.
Instead, invest in a pink or red color corrector to help neutralize the tone of your beard shadow. This enables you to use less makeup and achieve a more natural and feminine appearance.
(Note: Check out The Makeup Magic Program for expert tips on concealing a beard shadow, using makeup to feminize your face, and so much more!)
3. Body Shaper
A body shaper is a versatile garment that offers multiple benefits, including waist trimming, belly flattening, and overall shape smoothing.
Body shapers come in a variety of styles. Opt for a brief style to wear under shorter skirts and a thigh-length style for pants and longer skirts.
To feminize your lower body, look for a body shaper with hip and butt padding to create the illusion of curves.
4. Perfume
The right perfume can make you feel irresistibly feminine!
The secret is to choose a fragrance that matches the qualities you want to express. Here are some simple guidelines:
- Go for floral scents if you want to express your romantic side.
- Choose oriental or woody scents if you want to bring out your inner seductress.

5. Black Pantyhose Or Tights
While bare legs may be fashionable, there’s nothing quite like the sophisticated appeal of hosiery. Classic black pantyhose or tights, in particular, are a style must-have.
When opting for pantyhose, choose the sheerest hose available and stick to jet black. Avoid shades like gray-black or brown-black.
Alternatively, you can go for opaque tights for a more casual and youthful look.
6. Lipstick
Studies show that a woman’s lips are considered the most attractive part of her body, particularly when accentuated with lipstick.
It goes without saying that lipstick is an essential item that will instantly make you look more feminine and attractive.
7. Classic Pumps
Shoes say more about you than any other accessory. When it comes to making a statement, you can’t go wrong with a timeless pair of black pumps.
Classic black pumps exude sexiness, femininity, and work well with many types of clothes.
8. Moisturizer
Due to higher testosterone levels, males tend to have rougher skin compared to women.
That’s why it’s essential to incorporate a daily facial moisturizer into your routine, whether you’re presenting as your feminine self or not.
By using moisturizer regularly, you can achieve smoother-looking skin and enhance the application and longevity of your makeup.
9. Little Black Dress
The little black dress is a wardrobe staple every crossdresser and transgender woman should own. A simple black dress in a flattering length can go from day to night and will never go out of style.
10. Attitude
Lastly, the key to it all is your attitude – and it’s absolutely crucial!
The way people treat you often reflects how you expect to be treated. So, embrace your femininity and radiate fabulousness with confidence. You deserve nothing less, girlfriend!
Now I’d like to hear from YOU!

Thank you for these wonderful tips Lucille! I have found that breast forms and the right bra(s) are a must. Perfume, makeup and lingerie are a must. I have about 8 different perfumes that I wear and never the same one on the next day. Black tights and pantyhose are great. However, I have found that taupe pantyhose are great too. I have found that the two pars of pumps that I have, black and navy blue seems to work with so many outfits, be it slacks or skirt.
hi Lucille honey; well its been a year and a half since I discovered your flat to femme web site. using the purifica and other other items with the creams I went from a 42 flat to 49 c cup! I love my breasts and am not afraid to show them. yes I have most of the feminine attire but what I need most is to shed some pounds. I have my breasts pictured twice in the f to fem pages as I was growing pg 1 and 10 ibelieve if you or anyone care to look and comment I would like that. ineed to get a updated pic tho. itird a 6″ heel 2″ platform but found my ankles and calfs to weak so then settled for a 4″ normal pump. for anyone starting out breast development will not change overnite but to keep at it is the key to a better you. go get it girls and thank you Lucille honey!
My Goodness! There’s more than 10 essentials and after reading through what all the girls said, they’re right on the money. Besides those ten items mentioned, there’s definitely a wig for those that need them, like me lol, nails, flats besides the heels, definitely some bling, other makeup – not too much though girls. Less is more, just put it in the right places and keep it proportional!
These items are my must adders as well. But to really help the nails I think a periodic mani and pedi are a must.
Fabulous list of “items” all of which I have, have had, adored, and need. My list is, oddly enough, not things, but five intangibles like people and places to make me whole as I do my “runway strut” through life.
1. TG Gurlfriends
I had a posse in LA and I am assembling one in Savannah. TG gurls like me who love to shop, diss, share, laugh, cry, and love. And we are everywhere darlings! Just go to Craigslist and post under T4T “platonic” and you’ll find gurls near you looking for kindred spirits. An aside–most I meet know of this site or if not, check it out very quickly. So when we say, “Well Lucille says…” we ALL know immediately that this is going to be so much more useful than another Martha Stewart decorating tip!
2. A trusted nail salon
Sisters, a great manicure and pedicure does beat a “great pair of L’eggs”. It is not terribly expensive and a good tech will give you prettiness lasting for weeks. Whether you just need everyday or something exotic, most women have a nail salon on their speed dial. My friend Christine just had a beautiful eyebrow threading for $11!
Changed her whole face (not that she doesn’t look gorgeous already!). She better invite me next time!
3. A hair salon
Again…on almost every woman’s speed dial. Even if you wear a wig, the hair salon can do wonders in styling and restyling it over and over. If you have hair and you’re trying to grow it out, the right stylist will help create a good cut to maximize how I look as a man or….moi! Best of all, you sit in the chair and feel pretty! More than just a cut and a blow, a good hair stylist is also your confessor…better than any priest! Talk to them and find one who enjoys YOU! My hair stylist in LA was the first GG (besides my wife)I ever told about my crossdressing. She had my picture posted on the fridge in the breakroom saying “Back of girls, she’s mine!”
4. A place of your own.
Hear me out. It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Yes, perhaps your wife or significant other understands etc, but you still generally wind up relegated to a small little corner in the closet, so the children or the maid doesn’t know. And if she doesn’t know, you’re living your better half out of a Hefty trash bag in a garage or attic.Stop! You and your new found friends (see #1) go and rent a cheap apartment someplace. I did it for four years. A place to be you, have access to clothes, makeup and heels whenever you need them. A place for the sisterhood to gather. Consider it a clubhouse. We called ours “The Slut Hut”….but I’m sure you can find something more ladylike and creative.
5. A boyfriend (if you’re str8) or a girlfriend (if you’re lesbian).
I differentiate because, of course, sexual orientation has NOTHING to do with sexual identity. I identify as str8. Therefore as a woman, I am attracted to men. And want them to be attracted to me. There’s nothing better than having the sex you are attracted to find YOU attractive! Of course “both” ways in for alot of bisexually identified people too! Anyway–go after what you’re attracted to.
Kisses….Love, Peace, yada yada….LOVE “YOU”!
well I have my own real breasts and no facial hair I used to wear a bottom shaper for a long time but when I need that extra tuck I will wear it for that I have perfume my mom gave my for Christmas 2 years ago and orange scented body spray she gave me to smells grate the tights I do have are black with a floral design on the sides of them the only lipstick I have is black but I mostly use is a darker red colored lip gloss I do not own any heals yet ill have to put that on my lists of things to get. I don’t use moisturizers I usually use scented lotions and body butters I have a black dress but I wouldn’t conceder it a little black dress but it can be used as one and attitude is one I do have but most importantly HRT was and still is the best of all that helped my the most.
What a great figure you have! Mine was like that a long time ago. I’m sure Ill never retrieve it.
You are Adorable! Would like to chat as I think our fashion interest are similar ! I adore the Steampunk waist cinched!
I’d suggest confidence should be included in the list… even if I am struggling a lot in this area.
As suggested by Jade and one or two others, unless you have transitioned and are blessed with your own feminine hairstyle, then a wig that you are happy with is surely a must… which is where I would like to ask:
PLEASE, PLEASE HELP GIRLS!!
I have four wigs, one of which I don’t like at all (as too dark compared to my naturally mid-brown hair) and the others I am just not sure if they suit me. I would be so grateful if even just one or two of you girls could kindly offer an opinion so I have FINALLY taken some photos of myself over several hours last weekend – most I deleted straight away, but the ones I have attached in my opinion are the least awful. Like many of you, I guess, I have taken these photos myself and my camera gives me 10 seconds from pressing the button to run around in my heels and quickly try to compose some sort of smile and half-feminine pose before the flash goes off.
If you are able to constructively comment on anything else that looks desperately wrong in these photos then that would be great too.
I’d love to have an idea if any of these wig styles look at all suitable… or perhaps you can suggest something different? I’d ideally prefer a style with longer hair, at least to shoulder-length, if it suits my squarish man-face. All my wigs are only synthetic, seems a waste to spend money on more wigs when I just don’t know what suit me. I know I am very much a work in progress, and have not come out to anyone or gone outside of my garden en-femme except for a couple of times in the dark.
Thank you in advance for any comments.

The third one is the best look for you in my opinion but go to a wig shop and try some on. Nearly all wig shops have TG clientel – we keep them in business.
Andrea, why don’t you try growing your own, then getting a proper
hairdresser to style it for you.
If you are transitioning, I think you will develop into an
attractive woman, but no offence intended those wigs detract
your appearance.
Accessories … bracelets, earrings, necklace, purse … pretty much are all requirements unless your going for the sweat pants look. I feel naked without them.
Lucille,
Just love that bra in the “breast form” part. Where can I buy that pretty bra?
thank you for such a fun web site.
