Clothing can be a powerful way to affirm your gender as a crossdresser or transgender woman.
While there are guidelines for achieving a fashionable and feminine look, this doesn’t mean you should be a slave to the “rules.”
Many so-called fashion rules are outdated or just plain wrong!
Are you following these 5 male to female fashion rules? If so, it might be time to break them!
Rule #1: Dress As Feminine As Possible
Nobody pulls off the feminine look quite like transgender celeb, Gigi Gorgeous. But that doesn’t mean everybody needs to dress this way!
The beauty of fashion is that you can express yourself however you want.
Whether your style is tomboyish, androgynous, or ultra feminine, anything goes. So, enjoy your individuality and dress however you want!
Rule #2: Don’t Go Without Shapewear
Shaping your body with breast forms, a corset, and hip pads can create a stunning hourglass silhouette.
When you want to feel like a bombshell, shapewear is a girl’s best friend!
But remember, you don’t have to wear all these pieces every time you dress up. Comfort should be your priority.
Wear what makes you feel fantastic, and don’t hesitate to skip the rest.
Rule #3: Always Wear High Heels
While high heels are undoubtedly sexy and feminine, there’s no rule that says you must wear them all the time.
Flats can be equally alluring if you want to be comfy, or if you’re on the tall side and don’t want to accentuate your height.
Love the look of heels but don’t want to go all out? A kitten heel (1″-2″ tall) looks elegant and can help feminize your walk – without the pain of stilettos.
Rule #4: Dress Like The Women In Your Area
I often talk about how helpful it is to observe cisgender (genetic) women. If your goal is to blend in, it’s a good idea to adhere to the style norms in your area.
However, you might have noticed that many women dress sloppily or put little effort into their appearances. If that’s not your style, don’t feel obliged to follow suit.
Look as fabulous as you want… and maybe they will start to follow your lead!
Rule #5: You Must Always Match
There are so many choices in women’s clothing that putting outfits together can be daunting.
While you should always look coordinated, forget about old fashioned rules that say you must match from head to toe. Not only is this boring, it tends to look costumey and dated.

Hello Lucille and staff,
#1… I do dress as feminine and womanly as I can. To be truthful since I have been living totally and full time as a woman all I have now is female attire, nothing male left at all, not even one single change of male clothes and I also use all women’s products. I did that for a reason to cut off all ties to being male and that was what I felt I had to do on into my journey into womanhood. I dress to blend in as an average everyday woman. When people see me walking on a sidewalk or a crosswalk or mall shopping that they are looking at a woman.
#2…Yes I do wear shapewear. I wear a waist cinching corset or waist cincher, butt shaper panty and of course also a bra. When I put on my dress over my undergarments I want to have the hourglass shape of a woman. I do not use breast forms anymore and do now have my own boobs and do wear a bra, 38C. The butt shaper panty, which is much like a panty girdle does a good job of giving me a womanly bottom by lifting and separating my buttocks and to widen my hips I do slip hip pads down each side of my elastane butt shaper panty. This also helps the waist cincher form my hourglass figure.
#3… I am 5’8″ tall barefoot so I do not want to be to tall as a woman cuz that can draw too much attention. Around the house I wear 1 or 2 inch heels but out in public 3 inch heels and if a special occasion 4 inch heels.
#4… In the western US there is a variety of dress depending on seasons and occasions. I do have a variety of dresses and also women’s jeans. I do have dresses to fit just about any occasion and if attending a country and western event I have women’s Wranglers and women’s cowboy boots and cowgirl blouses. For a breast cancer event like a walk or a run I wear relaxed fit jeans, women’ event T-shirt and women’s athletic shoes. In the winter I wear warmer clothing and in the summer I wear less clothing. I do have women’s one piece swimsuits.
5#…My purses and shoes are usually black cuz they go with anything. I do not always wear matching colors of my dress but I do wear colors that blend together if a skirt and a top. My earrings are usually large gold or silver hoops or longer 2 or 3 inch dangling rhinestone or faux diamonds.
In my heart and mind I am a woman!
As a retired age 72 trans woman, I just try to blend in as any other woman out there, while trying to present a very feminine image. I follow most of your tips, but for me, I only wear heels when I’m going out someplace special like a nice restaurant or something. It’s almost 90 degrees here today where I live, so this is what I was wearing all day. I was treated like a woman wherever I went. What do you think?
Hi Suzy,
That may be the cutest most attractive outfit I’ve ever seen you wear here. You’re so feminine dear!

Rule #3 there is a big + that comes with coretting that I think is either not widely known or is overlooked. A corset, even a neoprene Velcro latch type worn on a daily basis for awhile will actually give a typical straight up & down male shape a female shape by pulling in the middle sides of the stomach permanently.
( so long as your not overeating) It’s also a great way to flatten the tummy area. My surgeon recommended corseting to me a few months ago and since then many women I know have backed that claim. It’s also a great way to control food intake as you feel full sooner and thus eat less.
Do not sleep in a corset or tight shape wear though, or wear it more that 8 hours a day.
Build up to it. 3- hours for a few days then 4 and so forth. It works. Happy hourglass figure ladies!
I can only get fully dressed and makeup, wig on rare occasions. For these “Girls’ Night Out” events, I do like to wear tunic top and leggings, so I don’t feel the need to wear waist cinched or corset. I do, however, now realize I need a string gaff to avoid embarrassing bulge especially when I wear white leggings.
I myself work in a job field that I am outside in all weather and work with my hands so for work I end up wearing jeans and work shirts. But when I am not working I love to get dressed up in a nice dress and heels or even leggings and top usually with heels. I love that woman have so many choices when it comes to what they can, and I just love to express myself when I am not working. Plus side for me is I am living full time and have started to transition.
