There’s nothing like silky smooth skin to make a girl feel extra feminine!
For crossdressers and transgender women, hair removal plays a big role in creating a feminine appearance. But when you’re dealing with lots of face or body hair, things can easily go wrong.
The secret to a smooth, hair-free chest, soft feminine face, and silky smooth legs lies in avoiding some common mistakes.
Here are 5 MTF hair removal mistakes to avoid – and what to do instead!
Mistake #1: Not Exfoliating
All methods of hair removal can cause ingrown hairs, particularly in the beard, chest, and bikini area. You can reduce ingrown hairs by exfoliating your skin 2-3 times per week. This helps get rid of dead skin cells that can trap the hair.
To exfoliate, gently massage your skin with a washcloth, loofah, or exfoliating scrub. My favorite tool is The Body Shop’s exfoliating Body Polisher washcloth. You can find similar exfoliating clothes on Amazon.
It’s important to note that exfoliating immediately after hair removal can irritate the skin. Instead, it’s best to exfoliate either right before or a few days after the hair removal process.
Mistake #2: Forgetting to Moisturize
Dry skin is another cause of ingrown hairs, so it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. (Besides, you want the added benefit of soft, smooth skin, right?)
Pure aloe vera gel is a great moisturizer to use immediately after hair removal. Aloe vera is a natural moisturizer and skin soother.
Another option is to use an unscented lotion or body oil. Perfumed lotions can irritate freshly shaved, waxed, or lasered skin, so avoid them for the first 24 hours after hair removal.
Mistake #3: Not Treating Ingrown Hairs
Exfoliating and moisturizing your skin can help prevent future ingrown hairs. But what should you do about existing ingrown hair bumps?
First, let’s talk about what NOT to do. Resist the temptation of shaving over the ingrown hairs or attempting to extract them with a needle. These actions can lead to infections and scarring.
Instead, try using a specialized ingrown hair treatment like Tend Skin or PFB Vanish. These products are designed reduce razor bumps and ingrown hairs.
Mistake #4: DIY Hair Removal Gone Wrong
Professional waxing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal treatments are expensive, so it can be tempting to try to do them on your own.
However, be careful as some DIY hair removal techniques can lead to painful side effects if your technique isn’t perfect. Here are some pitfalls to watch out for:
Waxing – Mistakes to avoid
Newbie waxing mistakes – like waxing over the same area twice, pulling the hairs in different directions, or pulling too hard – can lead to rashes, bruises, and torn skin. Ouch!
If you still want to do it yourself, I recommend investing in a professional waxing treatment first, so you can observe and learn the proper techniques.
Laser hair removal – Mistakes to avoid
Home laser hair removal systems can save you a lot of money compared to professional treatments. However, it’s important to understand the risks (including burns, scars, and hyperpigmentation) if the devices are not used correctly.
Proceed with caution, take your time, and carefully follow the provided instructions.
Electrolysis – Mistakes to avoid
While there are some home electrolysis machines available, I do not recommend venturing down this path.
Performing electrolysis hair removal is a complex process, which is why professional electrologists are required to obtain licenses.
Not only are most home electrolysis machines unreliable, but there’s also a considerable risk of burning or scarring yourself. It’s best to consult a professional electrologist for this particular procedure.
Mistake #5: Going for the Biggest Bargain
I’m all for beauty bargains, but don’t let price be your sole criteria when choosing a provider for hair removal treatments.
Opting for an ultra-cheap price tag may result in a waxing service that leaves behind stray hairs or a laser treatment that yields patchy results. In the worst-case scenario, you could even end up with burns or scars.
Check the qualifications of the person treating you and read the reviews on any place you are considering. Yelp is your friend!
Also, keep in mind that upscale places tend to put more emphasis on comfortable treatments. If you’re a waxing or laser wimp like me, it’s worth spending a bit more for a less painful experience.
In conclusion
To achieve silky, soft, feminine skin, it’s crucial to avoid these common MTF hair removal mistakes. This is a major DO for any crossdresser or transgender woman.

I did my whole body with IPL which works very good when you have black hai. The light Colour Hair i made with Epilation ( Needle and Electric Power , hair by Hair.)Now i am completly Hairless except my Head , i dont must sahve anymor. I like toooo much
i have been having electrolysis on my face and neck for 27 months. The latest machines are relatively painless except under the nose which bring tears to my eyes. It is very expensive but worth every penny. As mentioned by others, hormones do make a huge difference in density and coarseness of body hair but i still epilate about once a month.
I’m a pampered princess. I love making a day of it at the spa.
Hi, i have been on hormones for 5 years and my body hair is fine and light but i still shave every 3rd day, i had laser on my face for 3 years and still have it on my lip every couple of months i also have electrollysis which hurts like crazy but works, i still shave my face once every second day Kylie.
I have always used Veet (5 min) cream everywhere except my face and it works great.
Since I started hormones I use it about once every 3 weeks and the regrouth is much finer and lighter.
One word of advice is to NOT rub it off especially the genital area but to gently wipe it off with a facecloth in the shower using warm water.
As for my face, I have always been gifted with sparce hair grouth especially around the chin and mustach area so shaving every second day is all required
Thanks Lucille for the great tips

buy Kalo Ingrown Hair Treatment on amazon.com it is cheaper when I first herd of it I looked for it cheaper and I got mine for 25 dollars instead of over 100 dollars. My facial hair is almost gone from more then a year of laser and 10 months of HRT worth it for beauty. I just hate it when acne forms from shaving down their it sucks guess I’m not taking car of it fully maybe exfoliating will help that hope it will. I just want shaving my legs to last longer then a day or to.
Hi Christy, You look Amazing. I shave down there at least every other day when I shower and then use my Secret ph balanced powder fresh antiperspirant over the shaved area. Doing that has worked for me that I don’t have razor burn or ingrown hairs. I used nair when my hair was long, but since I started completely shaving my entire body from eye brows down , I just pamper at least once a week with a full shave. I hydrate drinking lots of water and clean my skin well at night and moisturize. I lotion after each shower to hydrate on the outside. Stay Beautiful! Christina 111
Wow That was so long ago how so much has changed séance then. Well I have completely stopped shaving the pubic area, just to let the hair come in, to see where the hair pattern is and to let the new hairs have a chance to come in. And the HRT has made some of the hair go away. Especially the leg next to the pubic area, and my pubic hair has changed shape a little bit as well. I had some new hairs come in more towards the triangular shape. And I don’t use that product I mentioned any more. Even if I shave down there or not I use the Summers Eve PH cleansing wash in the Island Splash sent. I also sometimes use conditioner on the hair as well, and when needed lotion as well. Nivea In‑Shower Nourishing Body Lotion helps as well. I hardly get ingrown hairs now and when it does happen its just on my legs.
Ready for a bikini, I hope this is not inappropriate showing a bikini look. W/love Christina 111
used a good gel anti-perspirant down there! its dry,s them up. it works. sissy mike.
We only had once choice. I prefer electroysis and had a sample done next to my nipple. Not painful in the least with new machines.
Since I have not been able to afford the face E job yet, I still shave, but it lasts 24 hours.
Aveeno Postitively Smooth does seem to slow down facial hair growth.
I don’t have much hair anywhere else, but do shave between my breasts about every 60 days.
I use Nair or something similar on my arms about every 90 days, but I’m sure no one notices what hair I have on them but me, since it is light blonde. I just feel better looking at bare arms.
Try using Nono hair remover it is very painless and easy to use
Just now ordered it. Please tell me if it truly works, especially for the beard
