Do you want to look younger, prettier, and more feminine? If so, try changing your hairstyle! There’s no easier way to improve your appearance.
What are the best male to female haircuts and styles?
I’m glad you asked!
The most flattering and feminizing hairstyles are ones that help soften strong facial features (like a prominent nose or jaw) while making your eyes and lips pop!
Read on to discover the top 6 MTF transgender hairstyles. Note that these style tips work for both wigs and natural hair.
1. Side Swept Bangs
Bangs are a great option since they draw attention to your eyes while hiding a prominent brow ridge. Bangs also make you look cute and youthful!
Straight bangs can highlight angular facial features, so go for soft, side swept bangs instead.
2. Layers
Layered hairstyles tend to be much more flattering than hair that’s all one length. Face framing layers soften your features and add texture and volume to your hair.
3. Soft Waves
Soft waves are super sexy and feminine. Waves also add volume to your hair, making thin hair appear fuller.
Most trans women and crossdressers look great with full, wavy hair that balances out stronger facial features and a larger body frame.
4. Shoulder Length Hair
Shoulder length hair is the best option for most women, including transgender women. Hair that’s too short can look masculine, while hair that’s too long can drag down your face after a certain age.
Shoulder length hair is very feminine and flattering. Additionally, it helps conceal a stronger jaw or thicker neck (if these are issues for you).
5. Side Parts
Middle parts can be tricky since they make your face look longer and highlight your nose and chin. Side parts are more flattering and can be worn by anybody with any face shape.
6. Highlights
Finally, don’t forget about color! Highlights brighten your face and look softer than a single block of color. Generally speaking, your highlights should be two shades lighter than your base color for the most natural look.
Make everyday a good hair day!
Nothing can boost your appearance like a fabulous hairstyle. As you can see from the tips above, the key is to think SOFT – soft cuts, soft texture, and soft color – to balance and feminize your features.
Hair is an important topic, so I’d love to hear from you!
First, take my poll and let me know if you’re a wig girl or natural hair gal! Then tell me if you’re happy with your current hairstyle or if it’s time for a change.
Finally, I’d love to see a photo of your hairstyle in the comments below!

This is a cheap wig I purchased on line. I love red and curly. Your thoughts? My pics are on flicker
Awww…. but, when you pair the straight bangs with high pig-tails…. -my My!!
LOL.. At 48 I am still dearly holding on to my band(bra stap) length hair…. no bangs though, and a loose side part helps hide the parking spaces, well, one of them…. mostly.
I dread the day of “shaving it off” and buying expensive wigs!
…I look forward to having different wigs to choose from….
Such is the life of a borderline TG, duality is the norm.
During the day i wear it all back in a ponytail, retail friendly. At night, or when ‘not representing’ (a rarity nowdays).. I wear it loose.
Barrettes and hair bands are second favorite to ponytails and ribbons… all depends on my mood, school girl or young woman.
Thanks Lucille..!!..
:::Hugs::: to all.
Thank You Lucille..!!!..
-Yes, yes… inner self..
I admire the gal on NCIS(?), Bangs, Pigtails, Mini-skirt and Boots…. I am not into the hiking boot with mini-skirt look, but I admire her as an actor, and her character on that show.
And, just like my favorite,, pigtails/ribbons, lacy socks/Mary-janes.. I also love the contemporary look of a young woman, which I am sporting now (Thank You Goodwill!), just before my bubble bath… Controlled duality?! LOL I call it bliss.
Thank you for your forum Lucille, and your site, and all the emails.. -you are AWESOME!! ::Hug::
To all of the posters here.. Some of you are drop-dead gorgeous,, ALL of you are beautiful!!
-Keep smilin’!!

Haha, and you know what? It’s perfectly fine to break the rules and be yourself, too! I think TG women can take more liberties with their appearances than GG’s can since they aren’t bound by the same expectations. So rock those bangs and pigtails, girlfriend! 😉
I am growing my hair after FFS in Feb last year, its coming along this photo taken about 2 months ago. Kylie.
Why not steal a style from the kids for a younger look? A friend suggested this ‘bump’ style and I really like it! The top is ‘ratted’ out just past the bangs for more volume. Right now my hair is all one length but I really want to get some long wavy layers into it and see how it develops.
Thanks for a great site Lucille!

I mix it up a bit but here are a few that I believe work for me. Lucille you are the best. Thank You for all you do
Love You, Hugs Michelle
You look great! You have a very feminine face, so almost any style would work for you.
Hey Lucille, and all the lovely girls who comment….I have to agree with Lucille on this one……A loose, shoulder length, swept to the side, style with highlights is a real winner !!! ….AND always seems to be in style….. Lindsey
Hi Lindsey.. Are you on hormones? How did you get your breasts to look the way they do?
Marcy
I know you’re right because the best fit and look for me is exactly what you’ve stated… shoulder length, layered, with auburn highlights! amazing!
I still think you should use some TG girls as your models so we can actually SEE it as opposed to imagining it with natural women pics!
Thanks,
Melz
Hi Melz,
Check out all the lovely photos that have been posted here. There are lots of great examples of these styles. 🙂
I was always worried about passing at my age. I am 54, so I have been going after the more mature look. I finally got the courage to grab my hand bag and went out and meet someone who escorted me to a club and we had a great time, I am still not sure about my hair, I not sure if it fits the age.
Hello Barbara..
I have the same problem only I am 63.. LOL I know, late bloomer!
I have been thinking about going for a short wig like yours because the long auburn one just didn’t look right on me..
