If you enjoy crossdressing or embracing your feminine side as a transgender woman, you probably love the feeling of being all dolled up!
There are endless options for expressing your feminine style – whether your look is girly girl, classic, bombshell, or something entirely unique.
That said, there are definitely a few items that should be on your DO NOT WEAR list.
Whether you dress as a woman full time or just occasionally, here are 7 things not to wear when presenting yourself as a woman.
1. A Too-Short Skirt That Rides Up
Most crossdressers and transgender women have gorgeous legs that look amazing in short skirts and dresses.
But if your skirt is so short that you have to constantly tug to keep it from riding up, it’s a definite NO. There’s nothing more distracting than seeing an otherwise attractive woman struggling with her clothes.
2. A Poor Quality Wig
Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you. If you wear a cheap or worn-out looking wig, you’ll likely attract the wrong kind of attention.
To avoid this, invest in a high-quality wig and take good care of it. This way, you can ensure that you always make a positive impression with your hair.
3. Ill-Fitting Undies
Ill-fitting bras and panties aren’t just uncomfortable; they can create unsightly bulges and wrinkles under your clothes. Who wants that?
Believe it or not, about 80% of women wear the wrong bra size. So, there’s a good chance you might be wearing an ill-fitting bra too.
But don’t worry, you can find your proper bra size with some helpful tips. Check out this article for guidance: How to Find Your MTF Bra Size (Transgender/Crossdressing Tips).
4. Too Much Perfume
The perfect perfume can make you feel irresistibly feminine, but it shouldn’t be so strong that it becomes overpowering to others.
A simple rule of thumb is to apply 2 spritzes to 1-2 areas of your body, like your wrists and neck – never exceeding a total of 5 spritzes.
5. Shoes You Can’t Walk In
Sexy stilettos are a surefire way to look and feel gorgeous – but only if you can walk in them! If you have trouble walking in heels, try these tips:
- Stick with heels 3” or lower
- Wear shoes with thicker heels (skinny heels are much harder to balance in)
- Avoid thick platforms
6. Too Much Makeup
When it comes to makeup, less is more. A soft, natural look is always more feminine and flattering than overdoing it.

7. Worn Out Clothes or Accessories
It’s hard to feel like a poised and polished woman in scuffed shoes or a stretched out bra.
Take a good look at your clothes, undies, and accessories and either repair, donate, or toss anything past its prime.
In conclusion
While I’m not a big believer in fashion rules, I think we can all agree that these items do nothing to enhance your feminine image.
So what do you think of my list? Is there anything else you would add? I’d love to hear from you, so please share in the comments below!

I agree that too much makeup is a no-no but at my age of 69 makeup is essential. I had a complete facial makeover at Sephora last week and it made me feel wonderful. Makeup shows the world that you care about your appearance. And you can’t help but smile when wearing lipstick. There’s a shade of lipstick for every occasion, even if you’re just going to the market, the movies, a restaurant or out for the evening. Don’t be afraid of makeup. Just practice relentlessly to get the perfect look for you. Since I am now officially a female on my drivers license, I am validated to wear makeup without any misgivings whatsoever. Peace & Love to all. Ms Dana Christina
You look great Dana, very much a typical gal your age, nice going!
I am a M2F queer and love wearing all forms of Indian and Western dresses and looking for modelling acting and photoshoot

It is existing to wear sari with tingling of glass bangles. It is three long experience to go out
My biggest beef with other dressers I see when I am out is hair, clothes and makeup that is inappropritate for your actual age.
OK wear the skanky sex-kitten stuff at home or in select company, but if you divert too far from age-appropriate dressing in public you might as well clang a giant bell because you will get clocked and read like Big Ben at noon and midnight.
Don’t trust your mirror, take pictures of yourself. Your mirror will lie to you, a picture never lies. From this find what works for you. For me it skirts and tops, I think there great you can mix and match them and increase what you have wear.
But yes great advise with Lucille’s suggestions.
Kisses,
Brit
Thanks Britt – I never thought to do that but I did have a makeover with some photo’s afterwards – I could not believe it was me. To be made up professionally was an amazing experience – and the advice from the pro’s was to dress age appropriate. Thanks again, Diane.
I think your right on this list and I would never wear them . I just love dressing up as a woman and have sine I was about 14 years old.
Hi Lucille, I have made all of these mistakes, luckily I am blessed with good legs, so I always wore short skirts, but with the constant need to be the best I can be, I have now gone for the more classic look which has built on my confidence and am now comfortable going out in public, the follow on effect being taking the Cathy Perez voice training and your makeup course, I would certainly advise any one who wants to dress to never cut costs and get as much help as possible, it will make a much happier girl of you, love Jessica, xxxxxxx
Thanks Lucille,
It’s true about underwear. I bought this really nice bustier but the top part is not my breast size at all. I thought it looked nice alone but if I trynto wear it under something it makes shapes in the wrong place and I constantly have to pull
It up to make it look. Right. First time i worenit I didn’t know till I looked in the mirror
