If you enjoy crossdressing or embracing your feminine side as a transgender woman, you probably love the feeling of being all dolled up!
There are endless options for expressing your feminine style – whether your look is girly girl, classic, bombshell, or something entirely unique.
That said, there are definitely a few items that should be on your DO NOT WEAR list.
Whether you dress as a woman full time or just occasionally, here are 7 things not to wear when presenting yourself as a woman.
1. A Too-Short Skirt That Rides Up
Most crossdressers and transgender women have gorgeous legs that look amazing in short skirts and dresses.
But if your skirt is so short that you have to constantly tug to keep it from riding up, it’s a definite NO. There’s nothing more distracting than seeing an otherwise attractive woman struggling with her clothes.
2. A Poor Quality Wig
Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you. If you wear a cheap or worn-out looking wig, you’ll likely attract the wrong kind of attention.
To avoid this, invest in a high-quality wig and take good care of it. This way, you can ensure that you always make a positive impression with your hair.
3. Ill-Fitting Undies
Ill-fitting bras and panties aren’t just uncomfortable; they can create unsightly bulges and wrinkles under your clothes. Who wants that?
Believe it or not, about 80% of women wear the wrong bra size. So, there’s a good chance you might be wearing an ill-fitting bra too.
But don’t worry, you can find your proper bra size with some helpful tips. Check out this article for guidance: How to Find Your MTF Bra Size (Transgender/Crossdressing Tips).
4. Too Much Perfume
The perfect perfume can make you feel irresistibly feminine, but it shouldn’t be so strong that it becomes overpowering to others.
A simple rule of thumb is to apply 2 spritzes to 1-2 areas of your body, like your wrists and neck – never exceeding a total of 5 spritzes.
5. Shoes You Can’t Walk In
Sexy stilettos are a surefire way to look and feel gorgeous – but only if you can walk in them! If you have trouble walking in heels, try these tips:
- Stick with heels 3” or lower
- Wear shoes with thicker heels (skinny heels are much harder to balance in)
- Avoid thick platforms
6. Too Much Makeup
When it comes to makeup, less is more. A soft, natural look is always more feminine and flattering than overdoing it.

7. Worn Out Clothes or Accessories
It’s hard to feel like a poised and polished woman in scuffed shoes or a stretched out bra.
Take a good look at your clothes, undies, and accessories and either repair, donate, or toss anything past its prime.
In conclusion
While I’m not a big believer in fashion rules, I think we can all agree that these items do nothing to enhance your feminine image.
So what do you think of my list? Is there anything else you would add? I’d love to hear from you, so please share in the comments below!

Really like the dress…
I do love ridiculously short skirts, but I also restrict them to home use. I must have at least ten and I don’t think they ride up. They couldn’t afford to 😉
The secret to dressing effectively as a crossdresser is a certain modesty and style in your choice of clothes. Nothing too tight, and as the article says your skirts should not be too short or your heels too high. Be proud of your girly charms and your womanly confidence but don’t try too hard. Be feminine and pretty but not desperate!
Dear Ladies,
when it comes to shoes, (which I have a serious passion) finding flats like Naturalizer or Jambu Fioni’s are cute, sexy looking but most importantly comfortable also Kitten heels, & the newer style of smaller chunky heels help flatter your legs, look great with “midi” or slight over the knee length dresses & skirts. North Style sells these with a 2 1/2 inch heel. I want to ask: what about wearing “skorts” a summer look, used only for doing chores & stuff & doesn’t constantly ride up due to proper fit Lucille is an alright style choice? Like to hear opinions & or advice about these items. Robin Jennifer (Delaware)
I definitely resonate with those tips, good job! I often get positive feedback from cis women, so I must be on the right track. Sometimes it’s ok to be a little off-track, however, as at special events. I still remember a really short skirt at a ball with “tart” in the title. Skirts are not so common these days; they are almost a giveaway in themselves. I have often been to events where the only women wearing skirts or dresses were those who weren’t born women. I have to confess that some of my clothes are such old friends that I love to wear them even when they are a bit used-looking. especially if received as a gift. I try to use at least a little judgement, though.
I love wearing this short denim skirt. I don’t feel this is to to short, maybe just a little bit. I’m now 66 and I may be getting to old for this, but I feel so comfortable when out and about doing my shopping….
I also am 66 and I have a short denim skirt that I wear quite often. But it does not ride up.
Trying to send you my pic again Samantha…
Hey Samantha, It’s me Teresa. Same here my denim skirt doesn’t ride up on me neither. I can actually pull mine up or down if I want it longer or shorter. It’s the best casual skirt I have. I wore that skirt last week. I bought a new blouse recently to wear with it. I found the new blouse from Amazon. They have some nice things for good prices on there. We girls must help each other when we can. Here’s a different pic of me wearing that skirt when out on the town. Hugs Teresa
Dear Teresa, You are 66 years “young” & have great legs in your jean skirt, if you just wear it out to do chores & errands, Go for it!! I couldn’t see in your picture but were you wearing thong sandals? I thought your out fit looked really good on you. PS I am about to turn 63 years “young myself” so us “older T girls got to stick together. Luv ya & Who loves you baby?
Thanks Lucille for this interesting blog. I am always looking to upgrade my femme attire and move items out when they are ill-fitted. This is an important lesson to learn about oneself and a girls’ ability to adapt or upgrade their look.
It’s a totally fabulous thing to do to
