6 Essential Transgender / Crossdressing Panties Styles
Before you start building (or expanding on) your panty wardrobe, it’s helpful to know the most common underwear styles.
Here are 6 essential panty styles – along with the pros and cons for crossdressers and transgender women.
Brief
Briefs are a full coverage panty style with a bit of a vintage flair. Briefs come in different variations, including high/low waist and high/low leg styles.
Briefs are a great option for crossdressers and transgender women since they are comfortable and offer good coverage in the crotch area. The downside is that they tend to show panty lines.
Bikini
Bikini panties are similar to briefs, but with less coverage – i.e. a lower waist and higher leg openings. This gives them a sexier look, while still retaining the comfort factor.
Bikini panties are one of the most popular panty styles and a solid addition to your panty wardrobe.
Thong
Thongs are an undeniably sexy panty style that offers the least amount of coverage. However, traditional women’s thongs can be difficult to wear given the lack of fabric in the crotch area.
The best solution would be to choose a thong panty specifically designed for the MTF transgender body or look for a women’s style with a wider crotch area.
Boyshorts
Boyshorts are a women’s version of boxer briefs. Boyshorts offer the most coverage of all the panty styles.
While this isn’t the sexiest panty, it’s very comfortable and can still look cute and feminine in the right fabric and style. Boyshorts are a great option for lounging.
Hipster
The hipster is a low-rise panty style that’s sort of a cross between bikini panties and boy shorts. It offers more coverage than bikini panties, but less coverage than boy shorts.
Hipster panties can be a good option for trans women and crossdressers. However, avoid panties that are cut too low at the waist if you have love handles or a belly; this can give you that muffin top look.
Gaff
A gaff is underwear that’s specifically designed for crossdressers and trans women for the purpose of tucking male anatomy. This is important if you want to create a smooth look under tight fitting clothing.
Gaffs are most commonly seen in thong styles, but you can also find bikini-style gaffs with more coverage in the back.
What Are The Best Fabrics For Panties?
Now that we’ve covered the most common panty styles, let’s talk about the fabric. The material your panties are made of will have a big impact on the overall look and comfort level.
Cotton
Cotton is a classic panty fabric that’s soft, breathable, and comfortable. This is a great choice for sleeping in or lounging around the house.
Satin
Satin panties are definitely a favorite among crossdressers and transgender women. They look sexy and feel great against the skin.
Lace
Lace panties are undeniably sexy. The downside to this fabric is that it offers less support and the lacy texture can show through certain garments.
Nylon/Spandex
Nylon/spandex panties are very popular. These are synthetic fabric blends that have a silky feel and are very stretchy and comfortable.
How To Measure And Find Your Right Panty Size
Fit is critical when it comes to panties. Ill-fitting panties can bag, bunch, or squeeze in all the wrong places. Not only does this look bad, it’s also very uncomfortable.
Here’s how to measure your proper panty size and ensure that you’ve found your perfect fit.
How to measure your panty size
Step 1: Measure your waist
Using a tape measure, measure the narrowest part of your waist. This will typically be around the level of your belly button.
Step 2: Measure your hips
Keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of your hips and behind.
Step 3: Determine your size
Using these two numbers, find your size by referring to the panty size chart below.
Note: Size charts can vary among clothing brands, so always refer to the manufacturer’s size chart before purchasing your panties.
How should your panties fit?
- Crotch – Should offer complete coverage without bunching or sagging.
- Waistband – Shouldn’t bunch, roll, or dig into the skin.
- Leg opening – Should feel comfortable and not squeeze into the skin.
- Buttocks – Shouldn’t bunch or ride up. If the panties ride up, try a larger size.

When can we go over pantyhose and nylons?
Girl message me and I’ll help you with any questions you may have I’m very informative about nylons dear.
Being a tall gurl at 6-6, I prefer the brief. I have found they are comfortable and can be sexy if the right color and material! Mistress likes pink and so do I. I have others, like ruffled pink! SO comfy and I can wear them around the house with bra and a nice T for house work.
T.
women clothing are so various and size are worst… each company have their own idea for the meanning of S, M, L etc… so a XL can be small in other country.
The panties and your size chart is a perfect example; if you can raise panty over hips (42 inch) why the waist is only 32 inch?
Thank You for the panty size chart. I was able to save the image, and now have a nice table for reference.
Panties showing through can be a sorta message. Black or red definitely have something to say, when you’re in the message mood. Or even pink under white. Orange, yellow, blue, violet, may just be confusing or look unintended. Green, hmmm (?). Might be interesting if you wear white and also have green elsewhere.
I like thongs the feel sexy and the top stings show over my jeans. That is naughty but fun.
I have some Carmen Liu bikini panties I bought on En Femme that have just the right amount of “basket” to support. I also bought some thongs for men from Amazon that I’ve come to love. They have a great pouch up front and are a wonderful breathable material. The thongs make me feel sexy all the time. They have actually become my primary panty. I do have to check my waistband on the thong when wearing my lower cut jeans, the whale tail can peel out, lol.
I lean toward support and comfort – the texture is important and I assume that is the advantage of satin or silk, although cotton is breathable which is good. Pay attention to color from the standpoint that panties could be visible thru some fabrics – I suspect nude color may be the best option in those cases. I assume gaffs can be worn underneath the panties if concealing part of anatomy is desired.
