Who doesn’t love pretty panties? And shopping for them is half the fun!
But finding the perfect pair for your feminine self can be tricky. That’s why I created this ultimate guide to panties for crossdressers, trans women, femboys, and anyone who wants to express their gender identity through lingerie.
Inside, you’ll find tips on choosing the best styles and fabrics, how to get the right fit, and where to shop.
Let’s dive in!
6 Essential Transgender / Crossdressing Panties Styles
Before you start building (or expanding on) your panty wardrobe, it’s helpful to know the most common underwear styles.
Here are 6 essential panty styles – along with the pros and cons for crossdressers and transgender women.
Brief
Briefs are a full coverage panty style with a bit of a vintage flair. Briefs come in different variations, including high/low waist and high/low leg styles.
Briefs are a great option for crossdressers and transgender women since they are comfortable and offer good coverage in the crotch area. The downside is that they tend to show panty lines.
Bikini
Bikini panties are similar to briefs, but with less coverage – i.e. a lower waist and higher leg openings. This gives them a sexier look, while still retaining the comfort factor.
Bikini panties are one of the most popular panty styles and a solid addition to your panty wardrobe.
Thong
Thongs are an undeniably sexy panty style that offers the least amount of coverage. However, traditional women’s thongs can be difficult to wear given the lack of fabric in the crotch area.
The best solution would be to choose a thong panty specifically designed for the MTF transgender body or look for a women’s style with a wider crotch area.
Boyshorts
Boyshorts are a women’s version of boxer briefs. Boyshorts offer the most coverage of all the panty styles.
While this isn’t the sexiest panty, it’s very comfortable and can still look cute and feminine in the right fabric and style. Boyshorts are a great option for lounging.
Hipster
The hipster is a low-rise panty style that’s sort of a cross between bikini panties and boy shorts. It offers more coverage than bikini panties, but less coverage than boy shorts.
Hipster panties can be a good option for trans women and crossdressers. However, avoid panties that are cut too low at the waist if you have love handles or a belly; this can give you that muffin top look.
Gaff
A gaff is underwear that’s specifically designed for crossdressers and trans women for the purpose of tucking male anatomy. This is important if you want to create a smooth look under tight fitting clothing.
Gaffs are most commonly seen in thong styles, but you can also find bikini-style gaffs with more coverage in the back.
What Are The Best Fabrics For Panties?
Now that we’ve covered the most common panty styles, let’s talk about the fabric. The material your panties are made of will have a big impact on the overall look and comfort level.
Cotton
Cotton is a classic panty fabric that’s soft, breathable, and comfortable. This is a great choice for sleeping in or lounging around the house.
Satin
Satin panties are definitely a favorite among crossdressers and transgender women. They look sexy and feel great against the skin.
Lace
Lace panties are undeniably sexy. The downside to this fabric is that it offers less support and the lacy texture can show through certain garments.
Nylon/Spandex
Nylon/spandex panties are very popular. These are synthetic fabric blends that have a silky feel and are very stretchy and comfortable.
How To Measure And Find Your Right Panty Size
Fit is critical when it comes to panties. Ill-fitting panties can bag, bunch, or squeeze in all the wrong places. Not only does this look bad, it’s also very uncomfortable.
Here’s how to measure your proper panty size and ensure that you’ve found your perfect fit.
How to measure your panty size
Step 1: Measure your waist
Using a tape measure, measure the narrowest part of your waist. This will typically be around the level of your belly button.
Step 2: Measure your hips
Keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of your hips and behind.
Step 3: Determine your size
Using these two numbers, find your size by referring to the panty size chart below.
Note: Size charts can vary among clothing brands, so always refer to the manufacturer’s size chart before purchasing your panties.
How should your panties fit?
- Crotch – Should offer complete coverage without bunching or sagging.
- Waistband – Shouldn’t bunch, roll, or dig into the skin.
- Leg opening – Should feel comfortable and not squeeze into the skin.
- Buttocks – Shouldn’t bunch or ride up. If the panties ride up, try a larger size.

I wear a panty girdle as I have a fat belly. It often rolls down but I don’t like to see my junk
Just a few of my preferences learned in 15+ years of wearing panties. I was average in size, but years of phytoestrogens have made things smaller. I generally tuck, but not always. I wear nylon spandex almost exclusively. I wear cotton if I’m doing gym or something sweaty. I generally go for a thong, but regularly wear bikinis, hipsters and occasionally boyshorts. I’ve never worn a gaff and full briefs tend to be too high for my waistline. String bikinis cut into my hips. I buy mainly from Walmart on sale or clearanced.
Victoria’s Secret is not inexpensive, BUT they are good material, well made and should last for years.
Panties sold from China run very small (I buy 2 sizes up) and one-size does NOT fit all.
Look at the width of the crotch to make sure you’ll have enough to support you.
Elastic around the leg openings can keep things from falling out the side.
Lace looks sexy but can be painful as your member and testicles try to squeeze through all the little holes.
Have fun shopping!

Jenny Dee
When I started my transition slowly into womens clothing I started out with underwear and then socks then the rest slowly over time. Over the years I have tried many kinds of underwear. I always sugest a wider gusset fits better especially if your pre-op. It’s amazing the difference in how underwear fits. Ever since I have had my bottom surgery underwear fits way better even know I still need a wider gusset in the crotch do to having significantly bigger inner labia. My most resent underwear is shaping underwear from Truekind. And thongs and boyshorts from victoria’s secret. It’s fun to have options for different outfit needs. Weather on the kinky side or the most modest and everything in-between. There are so manny options for your outfit needs. So experiment to find out what works for you.
For the past 10 years I have purchased all my undergarments and hosiery at herroom.com. I prefer shopping at women-owned businesses like herroom. They told me I am one of their best customers! My favorite every day panty is the Valmont 1803 Embroidered Panty Brief. Fits very comfortably and looks feminine. I match it with a Glamorise Magic Lift Bra size 42C, which I am happy to say I fill out completely and naturally.
Panties were the first article of female clothing I ever put on.I had no idea why I did it , but ,the feeling was exciting and unlike anything I ever experienced.I knew I had to do it again even though I had no idea where it would eventually lead.
Eventually I began buying my own panties.I love Hanes and Bali.I also have some lovely panties from Victoria’s Secret.I love satin panties with lace.I now have as many or more panties than most women.I adore them and always wear them.
Over time I slipped into stocking and pantyhose and started shaving my legs.
Bras ,dresses ,skirts ,blouses ,high heels and makeup followed.
I would not trade my femininity for anything.
that is a great story i started with pantyhose and then every thing else and i do it daily now cant stop
Stephanie, my journey has been much like yours, starting with my sister’s panties, then slips, and later bras. Now I have drawers of lingerie and my closet has a growing collection of skirts and especially dresses! I just adore wearing feminine undies and clothing, plus all sorts of pretty accessories, particularly silky scarves!
