Expressing your feminine side is about much more than just clothes and makeup. After all, women are a little more complex than that!
That’s why I wanted to go beyond the obvious and explore some unexpected strategies to help you enhance your feminine expression.
In this blog post for crossdressers and transgender women, I share 3 unexpected ways to be more feminine. Read on to learn more!
1. Buy a New Perfume
The right perfume can make you feel irresistibly feminine. While it’s great to have a signature scent, sometimes it helps to switch things up and discover new perfumes to bring out your inner woman.
Here are some suggestions to match your desired vibe:
- Floral scents: Embrace your soft, romantic side with the allure of flowers.
- Fresh or fruity scents: Boost your confidence and energy levels with invigorating notes.
- Woody or oriental scents: Unleash your inner seductress with warm, captivating fragrances.

2. Be More Polite
Did you know that politeness plays a significant role in enhancing your feminine image?
Countless studies have shown that women tend to excel in the realm of manners, and adopting these social graces can truly elevate your femininity.
Here are three suggestions to keep in mind:
- Embrace the power of “please” and “thank you” – These little words hold huge power in conveying respect and gratitude. Remember to use them often in your daily interactions.
- Soften your language – For example, instead of bluntly saying “I can’t hear you,” opt for a more gentle approach like, “I’m sorry, I can’t quite hear you.” This subtle shift demonstrates empathy and consideration.
- Mind your online presence – Politeness shouldn’t be limited to face-to-face encounters. It’s equally important to be polite when texting, emailing, or engaging in online discussions.
3. Loosen Up
If you’re looking for an instant way to enhance your feminine image, here’s a simple secret: loosen up! This applies to both your body and your mind, and it can work wonders in unleashing your true feminine grace.
First, let’s focus on loosening up your body:
Women naturally possess a graceful, limber quality. If your body feels tense and tight, it can manifest in stiff, jerky movements that lack femininity. Here’s how you can loosen up:
- Consciously relax your body, especially your jaw and shoulders.
- Stretch your muscles on a daily basis.
- Take lots of deep, relaxing breaths.
These simple body-loosening techniques can do more to feminize your movements than all the hip shaking in the world!
Now, let’s shift our focus to loosening up your mind:
The happiest crossdressers and transgender women I know don’t get hung up on “passing” or trying to please everybody. Instead, they embrace who they are while constantly striving to improve themselves.
Life is short, so above all, relax and enjoy the journey!

Dear Lucille,
I am sure that you are spot on about smiling. I have a friend who smiles a lot. Her mood is always up. She laughs at bad situations as well as good ones and finds all sorts of ways to see the funny side of things. Naturally she makes me laugh and smile too. I have been told that I smile more but still can work on it. I am not sure I like your metaphor for “leaning back” as being feminine but the concept is certainly sound. I am always ready to listen to sound advise from wise women!
I keep my underarms shaved all the time. If anyone notices I just say that it is to keep the hair from pulling on my undershirts. I also try to walk like a lady every where I go. It makes me feel like the women that I know tham I am on the inside.
when i shave it is allover keeping my body legs and arms free from hair, my eyebrows neat & tidy and those horrid ear & nose hairs
I cant dressup much but i feel always fem inside. Therefore i wear as often a bra. In the winter it is almost every day beacaus no one can see i do.
Surround myself with feminine things in my house. I have created my own sort of alter with all things that represent me now. IE candles, lamps and pretty things
I love scents and am not a fan of a signature scent but rather choosing a scent by my mood and the season.
Read Redbook, More,Real Simple, and Martha Stewart.
Mani/pedi are such a treat.
Dance My favorites are NIA, African, Ballet, and Belly
Take up less space whether in voice or presence. I do love the lean back suggestion.
Have my hair highlighted and colored.
Be myself and not try to be something I’m not.
Embrace the fact that I simply was born in the wrong body.
Gabriella
I have always felt very feminine since my transition day July 2, 2007. My friend of 22yrs said I was always feminine.
But things like bubble baths, which I have enjoyed for 20yrs, and doing your hair (simple – change wigs) and of course putting on lipstick.
I seem to have always danced and moved like a gg. Maybe its because I am XXY instead of XY genetically, who knows.
Anyway, I feel like there is nothing left of the cocoon I broke out of, shattering it completely on that wonderful day.
Sorry was adding a pic and forgot.
As always Lucille, your hints and tips are spot on. I am so glad that I found you. One of the ‘things’ that make me feel fem, is going to the hairdressers either regularly having a wash, cut and set and once every three months having a full perm. I enjoy the conversation and the gossip, and oh the coffee and biscuits! I look in the mirror with my rollers in my hair and I can see my Mother staring back at me! On British television at the moment there is a series of programmes dealing with TV/TG, they have chosen as subjects (male and female) what I deem to be more drag, with heavy make-up and well over the top costumes. I have yet to see a programme which trully represents us ‘girls’. Perhaps Lucille you should consider producing a sesitive programme to show that we are not freeks, yes, we so wish to pass, but as normal women. Sorry about that just had to get it off my chest!
Thank you again Lucille, and I look forward to receiving further advice and helpful tips,

I so agree going to the salon to get your hair done is so rewarding this is a pic of me. my hair straightened and coloured, love being pampered for a couple hours! we all deserve to be ourselves first. and second pc is my natural state ???? giggle. have fun out there girls …
I definitely know how you feel. Every now and then I get frustrated that society clings to a stereotype that we want to be 2000% female, when really, a lot of us just want to be seen as normal, ordinary women
I agree with emma. Having beautifully smooth skin is always the best start. Then a pair of silk stockings and a really pretty pair of satin panties does it for me.
I also enjoy the smoothness of no body hair and something feminine to enhance the feeling of being a lady
