Your hair is a big part of your female image. While feminine hair is typically associated with long hair, short hair can also look cute, fun, and sexy!
There are lots of reasons why transgender women and crossdressers might opt for a shorter hairstyle. For one thing, short hair is practical and low-maintenance. It also makes a bold fashion statement!
Now obviously, shorter hairstyles can lean towards a more masculine look. However, with the right cut and styling, MTF short hairstyles can look chic and feminine.
In this blog, I’ll share my top 3 tips for feminizing short hair. Read on to learn more!
3 Tips for Feminizing MTF Short Hairstyles
1. Get a cute haircut
The first thing you need is a great haircut that can be styled in different ways. Choppy layered styles are fashionable and look great in both male and female modes.
Ask your hairstylist to show you different options for styling your hair. Layers that are swept towards the face are very feminine and flattering. Curls are another great, girly option.
2. Try a hair accessory
Transgender women with short hair look fantastic with barrettes and headbands, so this is an easy way to feminize a short haircut.
You can wear hair accessories at any age, but choose something appropriate. Stay away from girly bows or headbands after age 30. Instead, go for something sophisticated like a beautiful barrette or a pretty flower for your hair.
3. Wear a hat
Hats are a great fashion accessory. They make a bold fashion statement and add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
Hats also offer an easy way to feminize your hairstyle. In fact, you don’t even have to do your hair! Just throw on a pretty hat and you’re good to go.
Be sure to consider the season when selecting a hat. That means you’ll want to avoid knit hats in the summer and straw hats in the winter. Felt hats can be worn year round except for during the hottest months.
Let’s Talk Hair Length
Since I am often asked about MTF short hairstyles, I thought it would be fun to do a poll on hair length. Take the poll and leave me your comments below!

Hi Lucille,
Like most, I love wearing long hair, but I find medium to short styles more flattering and certainly easier to keep nice!!
The photos were taken about 12 months ago, but I still wear all of these styles.
Thanks Lucille,
Hugs

Lucille,
You’re not playing honestly, you show pictures of good looking women with faces that look good with whatever kind of hair, even straw wigs look good on them.
Try this one, yes it’s me!, for size!!
For a long time, I ust to wear shoulder length hair or side bangs. But for the last couple of years, I have turned to short hair in order to show off my earrings (pierced earlobes), which is another nice female attribute.
Fortunately my face is shaped in such a way that I look male in male mode and female when dressed as a woman.
Hello to all you girls
Erika
thanks for your lovely site.
I wish i had a recent picture to show. All my sisters( family) always use to tell me that they wish that they had my hair . You see all my family has basic straight hair, while my hair has lovely waves, flips, and curl to it. i never really thought much about style of hairbecause my life was one of hiding what and who i am. Now with me soon to be coming out to a femmine lifestyle my nearly 2 yrs. of going without a hair cut should lend me many possiblities of hair styles. I will when i am out to my 24/7 living as female and my hair is properly done up, get pictures, many pictures, and share them with you all. you’ve been such a strength to me during these times and dispite not having money to purshace your various classes( if that is the right wording for them) I have saved all the mailing you have sent me and worked on the ones that i could. Soon you will see the me that has been bottled up for so long.
I thank you for yyour advise, and please keep “em coming.
Your friend,
Michelle
I love long hair as much as any woman, but I’m finding it doesn’t go well with my face, unless I’ve just not found the PERFECT wig yet… I tried on a short gray wig to better frame my face and also hide the real color under and was quite pleased
