6 Essential Transgender / Crossdressing Panties Styles
Before you start building (or expanding on) your panty wardrobe, it’s helpful to know the most common underwear styles.
Here are 6 essential panty styles – along with the pros and cons for crossdressers and transgender women.
Brief
Briefs are a full coverage panty style with a bit of a vintage flair. Briefs come in different variations, including high/low waist and high/low leg styles.
Briefs are a great option for crossdressers and transgender women since they are comfortable and offer good coverage in the crotch area. The downside is that they tend to show panty lines.
Bikini
Bikini panties are similar to briefs, but with less coverage – i.e. a lower waist and higher leg openings. This gives them a sexier look, while still retaining the comfort factor.
Bikini panties are one of the most popular panty styles and a solid addition to your panty wardrobe.
Thong
Thongs are an undeniably sexy panty style that offers the least amount of coverage. However, traditional women’s thongs can be difficult to wear given the lack of fabric in the crotch area.
The best solution would be to choose a thong panty specifically designed for the MTF transgender body or look for a women’s style with a wider crotch area.
Boyshorts
Boyshorts are a women’s version of boxer briefs. Boyshorts offer the most coverage of all the panty styles.
While this isn’t the sexiest panty, it’s very comfortable and can still look cute and feminine in the right fabric and style. Boyshorts are a great option for lounging.
Hipster
The hipster is a low-rise panty style that’s sort of a cross between bikini panties and boy shorts. It offers more coverage than bikini panties, but less coverage than boy shorts.
Hipster panties can be a good option for trans women and crossdressers. However, avoid panties that are cut too low at the waist if you have love handles or a belly; this can give you that muffin top look.
Gaff
A gaff is underwear that’s specifically designed for crossdressers and trans women for the purpose of tucking male anatomy. This is important if you want to create a smooth look under tight fitting clothing.
Gaffs are most commonly seen in thong styles, but you can also find bikini-style gaffs with more coverage in the back.
What Are The Best Fabrics For Panties?
Now that we’ve covered the most common panty styles, let’s talk about the fabric. The material your panties are made of will have a big impact on the overall look and comfort level.
Cotton
Cotton is a classic panty fabric that’s soft, breathable, and comfortable. This is a great choice for sleeping in or lounging around the house.
Satin
Satin panties are definitely a favorite among crossdressers and transgender women. They look sexy and feel great against the skin.
Lace
Lace panties are undeniably sexy. The downside to this fabric is that it offers less support and the lacy texture can show through certain garments.
Nylon/Spandex
Nylon/spandex panties are very popular. These are synthetic fabric blends that have a silky feel and are very stretchy and comfortable.
How To Measure And Find Your Right Panty Size
Fit is critical when it comes to panties. Ill-fitting panties can bag, bunch, or squeeze in all the wrong places. Not only does this look bad, it’s also very uncomfortable.
Here’s how to measure your proper panty size and ensure that you’ve found your perfect fit.
How to measure your panty size
Step 1: Measure your waist
Using a tape measure, measure the narrowest part of your waist. This will typically be around the level of your belly button.
Step 2: Measure your hips
Keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of your hips and behind.
Step 3: Determine your size
Using these two numbers, find your size by referring to the panty size chart below.
Note: Size charts can vary among clothing brands, so always refer to the manufacturer’s size chart before purchasing your panties.
How should your panties fit?
- Crotch – Should offer complete coverage without bunching or sagging.
- Waistband – Shouldn’t bunch, roll, or dig into the skin.
- Leg opening – Should feel comfortable and not squeeze into the skin.
- Buttocks – Shouldn’t bunch or ride up. If the panties ride up, try a larger size.

You left out commando. I tuck using the inguinal method which makes a realistic looking vagina. No panties needed or wanted.
Commando is the traditional style under a kilt. I do that when I want to remember to keep my legs together. a powerful reminder!
One brand I used for years is LeoLines on etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/LeoLines
Her products helped me with being able to wear clothing more comfortably, even with swimwear. But seance my gender Confirming surgery I like to wear all the different styles, what ever I’m in the mood for. And outfit I’m wearing that day.
Definitely Briefs. My Number One choice.
Because i’m a ”big’ ‘old-fashioned Lady. Hipsters ;Thongs and Bikinis
are for the young generation.
I prefer silk and satin briefs and do my shopping on etsy.
So glad to hear you’re an “old-fashioned” brief-style girl, Julia-Sophie ! I too wear those, only in nylon for that silky caress and the generous coverage !
Recently I discovered Carole, wonderful product, very silky – before, my go-to styles were Shadowline,
Vanity Fair, Breezies – yes, from QVC, and of course the old-style Dixie Bells…
Remember, your panties are your foundation, and if you feel good “underneath”, you shine on the outside !
I have found the Bikini panties from Victoria secret to fit well and look amazing. I wear a gaff when I want to wear a tighter skirt or dress and don’t want to show. I prefer the feel of silk and lace over satin but if I want really smooth and comfy, I will pick micro fiber. I even have a couple pairs of bumless from VS that I wear for those special occasions 😉
Prior to my transition I wrote gaff pantries for obvious reasons. I now live in bikini panties. I loe the feeling of silk or satin with pretty lace. My favourite store is Victoria’s Secret
I tend toward brief or hipster, for max utility and comfort. Back when I needed to hide my appendages, a bikini bathing suit bottom, since it is made from heavier material, did a good job of tucking with comfort. Preferred material is cotton, or cotton-poly blend. Satin is nice, but gets slimy-feeling when it is warm and the material doesn’t breathe well. Silk is actually preferred to satin. Lace is nice sometimes. Ordinary stores like Target, etc., have satisfactory products. Hey, if you’re wearing granny panties, who needs luxury? Usually anyway, but then… I forgot Torrid-neat place, need to visit again. Of course, Victoria’s Secret is always fun. This old gal likes to shine every now and then.
I prefer the bikini style. They hold the boys well, cover the backside comfortably and aren’t so high on the waste that they might peek over my waistband. Jockey’s No Panty Line Promise bikinis made from Tactel are wonderful. They are lightweight, cover well and feel wonderful against a freshly shaved crotch.
Fruit of the Loom cotton briefs are very comfortable.
I love everything Satin it feels so good against your skin
