When you do your makeup, you probably put a lot of focus on your eyes and your lips. But what about your brows?
The eyebrows are one of your most important facial features. In fact, they have the power to completely change the look of your face.
For crossdressers and MTF transgender women, this means you can’t ignore your brows!
In this blog post, I share tips on how to feminize male to female eyebrows, including shaping, grooming, and using makeup to create your most feminine look.
Tips For Shaping MTF Eyebrows
As you can see from the photo of Laverne Cox above, gorgeously shaped brows add so much definition and feminine beauty to the face. Here’s how to achieve this effect for yourself:
Have your eyebrows professionally shaped
My #1 tip is to have your eyebrows professionally shaped if possible. An eyebrow artist will know exactly how to shape your brows to create the best shape for your face.
While eyebrow waxing is popular, I personally prefer eyebrow threading. This creates a more precise shape. It also tends to be more cost effective.
You can often find affordable eyebrow threading kiosks at the mall or in shopping centers. Just be sure to read reviews to find the best providers.
Shape your own eyebrows
If you prefer to tweeze your own brows, you can get great results if you follow some simple principles. The last thing you should do is start plucking random hairs without a plan.
Before you start tweezing, you need to figure out the shape of your eyebrows, including where the arch should be and where the brows should start and end. This is called “brow mapping.”
Using the above diagram for guidance, follow these steps to determine your ideal eyebrow shape:
- Hold an eyeliner pencil along the outer side of your nose. This line indicates where the eyebrows should start. (Note: The pencil should be aligned with the “bulb” of your nose, not the outer edge of the nostrils.)
- Then, angle the pencil across your eye, directly in front of the pupil. This is where the eyebrow should arch.
- Finally, angle the pencil from the outer edge of your nostril to the outer edge of the eye. This is where the tail of your brow should end.
After you have mapped out your brow shape, you are ready to start tweezing.
Use an eyebrow brush or spoolie to brush your brow hairs straight up. Then carefully tweeze any hairs that fall outside your ideal shape. Pluck the hairs one-by-one, tweezing in the direction of the hair growth.
It’s very important not to overpluck. Step back and look in the mirror every few hairs to check your progress.
How To Groom Your Brows If You Can’t Tweeze
While beautiful feminine brows can transform your face, I understand that this can be challenging if you have to maintain a male appearance. It might not be practical to completely reshape and feminize your brows.
If you can’t give yourself a complete brow makeover, you can still groom your brows. This will make you look better in female AND male mode. Here is how to do it:
- Use an eyebrow brush or spoolie to brush your brow hairs straight up. This will allow you to see any long hairs that extend past the top of your brows.
- With a small scissors, trim any hairs that extend out past the rest of your eyebrow. (Be sure to cut away from the brows so you don’t accidentally cut a hole into the eyebrows.)
- Tweeze any stray hairs that fall outside the natural perimeter of the brows.
The most important thing is not to over-tweeze your brows, especially if you are trying to maintain a masculine eyebrow shape. The goal here is to clean up the brows rather than completely reshape them.
Also, be sure to refer to the brow map above and keep in mind where the brows should begin and end.
Eyebrow Makeup Tutorial
After you have shaped or groomed your brows, the last step is to fill in your brows with eyebrow makeup. This is the finishing touch to creating perfect MTF eyebrows.

In conclusion
Beautiful brows are a powerful tool for achieving your best female look. So, play with these techniques and get ready to wow the world!

I use a pro to wax and tint my light blond uneven brows,$44, it totally makes a difference in the way I look, much younger. I wish she could wax my nose and ear hair as well, lol. I also use a couple different shades of pencil to further highlight and fill them out. It also gives you a basis line to follow with your shadow.
I had mine, tattooed on. I still have to pluck below brow, and shade with eyebrow pencil,.
HI…
Just wondered if you could send me info on enhansing /growing breast for male.
Thank you
Les..
I’m lucky enough to have pretty thin eyebrows, so it’s not too difficult to feminize them. My problem is that my eyes are small, pretty deep set and slant downward, so they always look kind of sad. I’d really like to make them look bigger and doe-like. Mascara and eyeliner help, so do false lashes, but I’d really like to make them pop out (kinda like Zooey Deschanel). I’d also like some tips on how to hide my brow ridge with makeup.
I’m glad to see that you are posting again.
Hi Your video and tip works realy good.I still pluck but pinching my brow is just the best.
I spend a lot of time perfecting my face I don’t know why… I’ve come a long long way… but every time I look in the mirror I see so much more to do! Keep the Tips coming in! They help so much!
One thing I am surprised to not see mentioned here at all is that most all places that sell cosmetics, in stores and online , sell kits to do brows. These kits usually contain a selection of stencils in various shapes and degrees of arch that range from ultra fem to fairly unisex/metrosexual. They are made of clear, soft, plastic or vinyl and one holds it in place and fills it in with the included powder or pencil. Take the stencil off and you will see exactly what hairs need to go in just a few minutes. Kits usually have a set of implements like a tweezer, and small scissor, and a brow pencil and some kind of darkening powder/s with a small application brush. I used a set and got great results.
Another tip: I use one of those little trimmers , “as seen on TV”, that take one AA battery. They come with a guard that goes over the blade and thus only allows the hair to be cut to the length of the slot on the guard so you don’t have to worry about slipping and shaving a chunk of brow clean off. Use it to trim the hairs to short lengths that are easy to manage. Chances are you will have some hairs that are going horizontal but dip below or stick above your desired brow line. The trimmer solves that.
Another tip: Resist the temptation to remove almost any hairs that grow on the top edge of the brow if you want to have the most femmed brows you are naturally capable of. Male brows grow on a lower level so if you are lucky enough to have thick growth on the outside edge and high, preserving it by only plucking under it will help you to appear feminine. Conversely, if you don’t have much to work with past the middle from the inside, by your nose, out, concentrate on the inner half and use powder and pencil to extend to feminine heights and shapes.
Last, be sure to observe the brows of real women by checking out fashion and celeb mags. You will be surprised how many famous women regarded as beautiful have brows that really border on masculine. I can only think of one right now, dammit, Brooke Shields and I have seen hers in ages so I can’t say for sure she has not changed her look but even some top fashion models have thick brows and I have even seen some in my Elle that I would call unkempt too. Remember there are lots of ways to “pass”.
Awesome tips! Thanks, Mimi!
My eyebrows are so light-colored that I could almost leave them any old way and just pencil any shape I want. But that’s really not true, it would look SO dumb. So I pluck and trim to get the right shape, then pencil to make it show. The trick is to make sure they are symmetrical. Sometimes after doing one the next one will try to drift into a different shape without careful vigilance. One frustrating effect of aging is that hairs like to show up in the wierdest places. So now I have to pluck my eyelids too, every so often. It’s kinda scary, having those tweezers so close to my eye, so ya gotta be REALLY careful. Another strange thing is that when ya travel between northern and southern latitudes, the sunlight changes, and yer pencil color may look different. But it’s rewarding when everything comes together, and it looks good, sometimes, anyway…
