Choosing the right perfume is a key part of expressing yourself as a woman. Scent is strongly linked to emotions – and the right perfume can make you feel irresistibly feminine.
But how do you find that perfect feminizing scent? I’m glad you asked!
In this blog post, written specifically for crossdressers and transgender women, I’ll guide you through various perfume scents and the impressions they create.
By the end, you’ll be able to confidently pick a perfume that matches your unique style and enhances your femininity.
Floral Perfumes
Floral perfumes are created using the scent of a single flower, such as lavender, rose, gardenia, or geranium, or a combination of multiple flowers.
These fragrances are particularly suitable for crossdressers and transgender women since they are the most feminine of fragrances. Wear a floral perfume when you want to express your soft, romantic side.
Examples of floral perfumes include:
- Daisy by Marc Jacobs
- Estée Lauder White Linen
- Dior J’Adore
- Stella by Stella McCartney
- Kenzo Flower by Kenzo
- L‘Air du Temps by Nina Ricci
Fruity Perfumes
Fruity perfumes contain citrus scents, such as lemon, grapefruit, strawberry, peach, kiwi, etc.
With their fresh and youthful character, fruity perfumes are an excellent choice when you desire to feel confident and energetic.
Examples of fruity perfumes include:
- L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani
- Cartier Eau de Cartier
- Sun Flowers by Elizabeth Arden
- Beautiful Sheer by Estée Lauder
- DKNY by Donna Karan
- Emporio White by Giorgio Armani
Fresh Perfumes
Fresh perfumes, also known as green scents, are light and airy, evoking notes of grass, green leaves, and the ocean.
Energetic and rejuvenating, fresh perfumes are perfect for when you’re “en femme” as they elevate your mood and create a comforting atmosphere.
Examples of fresh perfumes include:
- J.Lo Glow by Jennifer Lopez
- Fifth Avenue by Elizabeth Arden
- Diorissimo, Dune by Christian Dior
- Bond No. 9
- Safari by Ralph Lauren
Oriental Perfumes
Oriental perfumes emanate a rich and dramatic aura, blending scents of spices, musk, vanilla, and intense flowers.
These perfumes exude a sexy and sophisticated allure. Just remember to opt for a lighter fragrance, as oriental perfumes can lean towards the masculine side.
Examples of oriental perfumes include:
- Dior Addict
- Lancome Attraction
- Opium by Yves Saint Laurent
- Samsara by Guerlain
- Lalique Perfume by Lalique
- Sun Moon & Stars by Karl Lagerfeld
Woody Perfumes
Woody perfumes are heavy and dramatic and incorporate scents like sandalwood, patchouli, and cedar.
While woody perfumes are sensual and exotic, they lean more towards the masculine spectrum of fragrances. Hence, you may want to avoid this particular type.
Examples of woody perfumes include:
- Passion by Elizabeth Taylor
- Escada by Escada
- Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker
- Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan
- Habanita by Molinard
- Givenchy Organza
What’s YOUR favorite perfume?
Keep these guidelines in mind – but remember, the most important criteria for choosing a perfume is how beautiful and feminine it makes YOU feel!

I have always gone with essential oils, since they’re natural and do not seem to provoke an allergic reaction. Lavender, jasmine, rose. Some of the other high-octane perfumes are so strong they make me gag, and the barest hint of something is what really provokes the imagination.
By the way, a lot has changed over the past ten years, but due to the fact that I came out at work after two years of working there as a male and everyone knew me as a male and my voice as male, I am still having a very difficult time changing my voice at the workplace. Outside of work, I pass fine as a female, and I am almost totally accepted by my peers at work, but just recently, (almost as though they had been discussing it among themselves), several of them have begun commenting to me about my voice, not in a bad way, but telling me that I am both liked and totally accepted as “one of the girls”, so when am I going to change my voice? With this kind of support, it should be a piece of cake, so how do I get past this mental block?
congratulations on your coming out at work. It must have caused many anxious days/months! I am very curious as to the type work and people you are around? Also, what city or area of the country are you in?
In Alabama, what you did would be SO VERY DIFFICULT!!!
By the way Denise, my voice has gotten a little better, but if you ask me, it still sounds like a guy’s voice. Nevertheless, if guys continue to hit on me when I’m out and the girls accept me as I am, I’m not going to worry about it too much!
Hi Denise,
I just received word today that you had replied to my comment, so I’m answering right away. I’m probably very fortunate because I work as a security guard in a retirement/health care facility in Northern New Jersey, so many of my co-workers are in the health care field, primarily nursing, but that didn’t lessen my pre-coming-out anxiety. Surprisingly, the management handled it all very well when I informed them of my need to transition and, once my decision was made, even before the actual day set for my coming out, my anxiety was gone. Coming out was an absolute must for me, but my anxiety was over the potential loss of my job, not the reaction of the staff members. Some were very standoffish for a while, but I am somewhat observant and conscious of those who didn’t know how to react, so I sometimes approached them and asked if they had any questions about my decision to transition. Once more people became aware that I was open to any and all questions (no matter how personal), I received dozens of questions and I’m actually proud (not in a bragging way) to say that many people who knew nothing about gender dysphoria before I came out now know something at least, and many of them have become good friends and continue to ask me questions as the hormones continue to bring about more changes in my physical, mental and emotional states, and I’m thrilled to say there are plenty of them!!!! I just want to add one more comment: The anxiety before coming out was far worse than the actual day of coming out. On that day, I was Cara, and there was no turning back. Of course, there’s always going to be a few holdouts, but eventually they come around when they see you friendlier and happier than they are in their jobs! Maybe they have problems I’m not aware of, but I’ve got something else to live for now – a new lease on life!!! I’m 66 and excited about my life. You can’t top that feeling!!!!!!
I’ve tried several, but my absolute favorite has to be “Rapture” by Victoria’s Secret, Not only do I love it, but it always results in both male and female compliments and a feeling of total femininity which tells me that even though I had completely suppressed my femininity until I was 55 years of age, I am finally becoming the person I was always meant to be. Now, at 65, I’ve been out and about full time for only 3 years, but your transgendered tips have been helping me along the way a lot longer than that. Thanks Lucille!
I absolutely LOVE wearing CoCo perfume. Such a wonderfully feminine, classy fragrance that really helps me feel so much like a woman. The perfect final touch to having a great outfit, hair-style, manicure+polish, jewelry, and make-up.
My favourite is Givenchy Amarige. In my opinion it is very femme and I simply love the scent.
I’ve always been a very floral girl, especially Rose, jasmine, and neroli. My faves are Chanel #5 and Joy.
I loved the article. Always knew about the feminizing power of perfume, but it was important to know the types. My favourites are Lalique, Stars and Sun Flowers. Those make me feel very feminine and attractive.
Kisses!!
