Stepping out publicly as a woman is a powerful way to validate your female self.
In fact, I recently published a poll asking “How often do you go out in public as a woman?”
I was happy to see that the majority of my readers (transgender women and crossdressers) go out at least occasionally.
No matter how often you do it, I’m sure you can remember your first time presenting as a woman or crossdressing in public.
Since this is such an important gender-affirming step, I’d love to hear about it!
When was it? Where did you go? And what was your experience?
Please share with us in the comments below!
And if you’ve never been en femme in public, I’m sure you’ll find lots of inspiration in these stories.
As always, thank you for reading and participating!
Love,
Lucille

The first time I went out fully presenting as a women was two years ago at the end of May. I went to get a pedicure at a salon. I also went to the mall before my appointment at the salon. At first I was nervous because I was wearing a strapless dress. I will say that once I got used to being seen like that I wasn’t so nervous anymore and started enjoying myself.
The first time I went out in public was over 5 years ago, it was to a club in Massachusetts called Randolph Country Club where I met a whole bunch of others like us! Since then it’s been my favorite club to go to and I do go out in public on a regular basis, day or nite doesn’t matter. I have no problem blending with the women wherever I go so that makes it a lot easier for me. I’ll be at the salon tomorrow getting color treatments and a cut, time to touch up the roots.
I’ve been dressing for years like most. I was tired of being a closest dresser. and finally drove to the near by major city in my county. After driving around for a while I stepped out and walked through the streets. It was a totally thrilling adventure and though I received a few looks, most people ignored me.
I am 65 and I started going out when I was 25 I got all dolled up and went to rite aid for pantyhose, I am only 5 ft 7 in and at that time I was 150 lbs size 12 ,I thought I looked good, the clerk red me as soon as she saw me, never ran so fast in heels since. Now I go out sparingly and a bit heavier now size 16 or 18 but I can pass easier now because I try to dress real.
Dear Lucille,
This is the first time I have ever left a comment but I have always appreciated this newsletter! The first time I ever ventured out as a woman was the summer of 1992 in Virginia Beach, VA. I was living by myself in a studio apartment and finally got brave enough. It was just a short walk to my car and then a quick drive around. I was extremely nervous without much confidence. Fast forward to last summer….I spent an entire week in Florida with my wife and daughter presenting as my true self. From the beach to shopping and restaurants, my wife said I was passing every day! I’m in therapy now and plan to begin transitioning when my daughter graduates high school (I teach at our school). I feel that confidence plays a huge role in passing. I still have some moments where I’m not confident especially with a pesky beard shadow but the more I’m out blending in, the better I feel! So my advice to all is this…. Life’s too short! Get out in public! Trust me….most people are not paying attention and if they are….they’re just jealous!
Take care, Kristen
Thank you for taking the time to comment! What a great story! Thanks for sharing.
I agree! Great story and yes, I finally realized that people may not even be paying attention to me……I’ve been out a couple times recently but still lack the total confidence to be dressed in public.
Let me start off by saying I have been crossdressing for over 25 years in secret. Also I been shaving my body and waxing my brows for ever.
So maybe people know I’m a fem but no one has said anything nor asked anything.
My first time out was a lot of fun.
I went to an alternative life style bar for a few drinks and I was complimented and hit on all night.
That I admit was the best part….
the first time i went out was to a restaurant which was 10 years ago.
i am a big girl and sort of clumbsy and they put me way in the back so i had to walk thru the entire place. the looks i got. anyway, it was a very pleasant experience.
the last time i went out was to a nice place and they greated me with ” hi miss “. it gave me goosebumbs. so i guess i look damn good for a grandma. hahaha.
First time was in Calgary drove around a bit then wen for a walk in the park for an hour.
