Clothes, hair, and makeup aren’t the only ways to enhance your femininity. The foods you eat can also have an impact!
Did you know that over 300 common foods contain plant estrogens known as phytoestrogens?
These foods and herbs have been used for natural hormone balancing for centuries. And since phytoestrogens mimic the effects of estrogen, they could potentially lead to feminizing effects such as:
- Breast growth
- Softer skin
- Redistribution of body fat
- Fuller, thicker hair
While phytoestrogens aren’t a substitute for gender affirming hormone therapy, these foods can help give you a feminine boost.
As an added bonus, they’re also super healthy and can help maintain an ideal weight. (Very important to your overall female appearance!)
Here are 5 phytoestrogen-rich foods worth including in your MTF diet:
Flaxseed
Among all foods, flaxseed is the richest source of lignans, which are a type of phytoestrogen. Flaxseed is also high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.
To get the full phytoestrogenic effect, you should consume ground flaxseed (instead of whole flaxseed) for easier digestion.
Try sprinkling ground flaxseed on cereal, yogurt, fruit, and salads. (It’s super tasty!)
Soy
Soy is the most popular high-phytoestrogen food. There are tons of soy foods available, so it’s easy to work them into your diet. Here are some options to try:
- Edamame
- Tofu
- Miso
- Tempeh
- Soy beans
- Soy milk
- Soy yogurt
- Soy protein powder
Fruits and Veggies
Many common fruits and vegetables contain phytoestrogens, giving you another reason to eat your fruits and veggies.
High-phytoestrogen fruits include:
- Dried fruits (especially dried apricots, dates, and prunes)
- Peaches
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Pomegranates
High-phytoestrogen veggies include:
- Alfalfa sprouts
- Winter squash
- Green beans
- Collard greens
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
Lentils
Lentils (and beans in general) are rich in phytoestrogens. They’re also low cal and high in protein and fiber, making them a great MTF diet staple.
Yams
Yams are another healthy, phytoestrogen-rich food. In fact, a particular type of yam (wild yam) is one of the most commonly-used herbs for female hormone balancing.
Bonus: Bustea
While not technically a food, many teas are also high in phytoestrogens. Check out your local health food store for fenugreek tea, fennel tea, or licorice tea.
Or if you’re feeling ambitious, try making Bustea. This recipe was originally shared by Dr. James A. Duke in his classic book, The Green Pharmacy. The tea is concocted of various “bust boosting” herbs, hence the name!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup fenugreek
- Dash each of anise, basil, caraway, fennel, marjoram, licorice, lemongrass, dill
Directions:
Combine the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. After it cools, add honey and lemon to taste. Dr. Duke recommends drinking 1-2 cups per day.
Note: Since Bustea is very high in phytoestrogens, I don’t recommend over-consuming it if you take prescription hormones. (Always speak with your doctor before combining herbs and hormones or other prescription meds.)

Lucille

I really love estrogen… i am not able to contact a doctor for any help to become trans for a time… i have done natural changes myself and i need more estrogen induced foods, i have done things that have seriously changed and postponed testosterone. My voice has raised in pitch a lot. I am so happy that i figured out a more natural form of transitioning, but i really need and crave estrogen. I need a lot of estrogen and for anyone transitioning i recommend the foods they offer. Being only 17 i cannot exactly get most of the foods on the list but throughout my life i will definitely keep an eye out for them! Poof.
I found estroven for menopause worked wonderfully for me. my breasts grew wonderfully.
Interested in taken estroven

How much estroven and what strength

Thanks everybody for the great tips. As for me I considered voice to be practically the most important thing in transitioning. I got with a classical singing teacher first to learn how the voice works and build the upper register, then worked with a speech coach to get comfortable talking in an alto range with a sweet quality, feminine texture and the right sort of vocal mannerisms. It’s made such a difference. Even those days when — who knows why? — I just feel like I won’t pass visually, I know that as soon as people hear my voice any doubts they have will melt away.
So true… i really am doing everything i can… i had to learn to stretch my voice by myself… my Mom doesn’t support me… its kind of sad, but i am lucky its not worse. Anyway good luck girl! Be proud of who you are!
Mail me ur knowlege of voice .

How do I work on my feminine voice??
Wonderful article! I have found that a combo of aguaje, fennel seed & fenugreek works great too. I have been using aguaje for 2 years so far & just added fennel & fenugreek this year. My skin is softening, my hair is growing & my butt is growing & that is just from the aguaje. The fennel seed & fenugreek is helping with breast growth. Very happy!
I Googled aguaje. Fascinating! worth investigating. A number of local sources sell it.
is aguaje available easily ?
I have found that HRT a major component in achieving any significant mental, chemical and physical changes from male to female. However I believe that in addition to HRT that adapting a healthy diet is also essential in developing our transition into transgender female.
In particular reducing our sugars and unhealthy fats nd focusing more so on
Yes agree just started hormone hrt and my appetite has been not very so I had a hamburger last night big mistake left me filling bloated and yuck so I am going to a plant based diet
You look like the let me see your manager starter pack XD
Very helpful! Funnily enough, i already like a lot of peaches, raspberries, green beans, lentils and such, so incorperating them into my diet will be easy. Yams, though… I’ve never tried them. I’ll have to give them a try. And the finished bustea recipe smells great!

U guess that avoiding the foods that increase the testotoren would help .The fact is otherwise .Take the foods which increase the testotoren regularly , at least twice a week .Try total body workouts intended for male muscle growth with post – workout suppliments . U can take cold coffee as a pre- workout . It also increases testotoren . The Creatin suppliments are also beneficial if ur doing exercises regularly . Also try cycling or swimming . Do this for 2 years . U need muscles and lots of it .

Joseph…Good advice for the most part but “becoming trans” I didn’t become Trans, I have ALWAYS been me and that was someone with a serious amount of dysphoria and always wishing I had support when I was younger because I should have gone through the procedures back then. There’s nothing wrong with doing this young, I’d encourage someone to go for it as soon as they feel that it’s right for them. I totally agree with doing it properly as you’re saying but don’t discourage someone because of their age, I encourage you just advise that it’s a big decision and leave it at that. Why tell someone to keep suffering if they’re ready for it? It was torture for me, if I could go back knowing what I know now I’d have started HRT when I was 20 and saved myself a lot of hardship.
