Clothes, hair, and makeup aren’t the only ways to enhance your femininity. The foods you eat can also have an impact!
Did you know that over 300 common foods contain plant estrogens known as phytoestrogens?
These foods and herbs have been used for natural hormone balancing for centuries. And since phytoestrogens mimic the effects of estrogen, they could potentially lead to feminizing effects such as:
- Breast growth
- Softer skin
- Redistribution of body fat
- Fuller, thicker hair
While phytoestrogens aren’t a substitute for gender affirming hormone therapy, these foods can help give you a feminine boost.
As an added bonus, they’re also super healthy and can help maintain an ideal weight. (Very important to your overall female appearance!)
Here are 5 phytoestrogen-rich foods worth including in your MTF diet:
Flaxseed
Among all foods, flaxseed is the richest source of lignans, which are a type of phytoestrogen. Flaxseed is also high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.
To get the full phytoestrogenic effect, you should consume ground flaxseed (instead of whole flaxseed) for easier digestion.
Try sprinkling ground flaxseed on cereal, yogurt, fruit, and salads. (It’s super tasty!)
Soy
Soy is the most popular high-phytoestrogen food. There are tons of soy foods available, so it’s easy to work them into your diet. Here are some options to try:
- Edamame
- Tofu
- Miso
- Tempeh
- Soy beans
- Soy milk
- Soy yogurt
- Soy protein powder
Fruits and Veggies
Many common fruits and vegetables contain phytoestrogens, giving you another reason to eat your fruits and veggies.
High-phytoestrogen fruits include:
- Dried fruits (especially dried apricots, dates, and prunes)
- Peaches
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Pomegranates
High-phytoestrogen veggies include:
- Alfalfa sprouts
- Winter squash
- Green beans
- Collard greens
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
Lentils
Lentils (and beans in general) are rich in phytoestrogens. They’re also low cal and high in protein and fiber, making them a great MTF diet staple.
Yams
Yams are another healthy, phytoestrogen-rich food. In fact, a particular type of yam (wild yam) is one of the most commonly-used herbs for female hormone balancing.
Bonus: Bustea
While not technically a food, many teas are also high in phytoestrogens. Check out your local health food store for fenugreek tea, fennel tea, or licorice tea.
Or if you’re feeling ambitious, try making Bustea. This recipe was originally shared by Dr. James A. Duke in his classic book, The Green Pharmacy. The tea is concocted of various “bust boosting” herbs, hence the name!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup fenugreek
- Dash each of anise, basil, caraway, fennel, marjoram, licorice, lemongrass, dill
Directions:
Combine the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. After it cools, add honey and lemon to taste. Dr. Duke recommends drinking 1-2 cups per day.
Note: Since Bustea is very high in phytoestrogens, I don’t recommend over-consuming it if you take prescription hormones. (Always speak with your doctor before combining herbs and hormones or other prescription meds.)

Lucille

Hello dear,
Pumkin seeds are known to block testosteron as they are anti DHT foods.
So why are pumpkin seeds reccommended in a feminization program?
It looks like they work for both feminization and anti feminization.
What would you say about this?
Best wishes
Meraba Eylul nasilsin
You don’t understand how testosterone works. If pumpkin seeds block testosterone estrogen is more active/effective
Your comment doesn’t clear up the confusion re- pumpkin seeds at all. And it’s doubtful that you have a clue how these foods affect the chain of hormone effects in any detail.
You gotta eat before taking herbal hormones.. They do work… Not as strong as regular hormones.. But they work. I take black cohosh, soy, vitex, wild yam,.. And protestor one cream from . gnc
i like big banana and white cream
I ve been using fengreek and red clover and a lot of herbs and vegs with estrogen in them and what a different its made, would love to see a list of herbs and vegs and food that helps
Fenugreek … in one article/video you talked about fenugreek. I have been taking it since in addition to the regular breast massage. I am thrilled to say that I am seeing growth! Thank you so very much!!!
Have you taken fenugreek only without other herbs?
I am interested in knowing how much time it took for you to notice fat addition to bum and thighs?
Fenugreek is the only phyto-estrogenic herb easily available in India. Hence this question. Saw Palmetto is not available here.
Hello, Please someone list the exact effects and possible effects? What exactly happens to our body if we increase the phytoestrogen level.
I am surprised that more info is not published and discussed regarding Herbs and their side effects. It’s all wonderful that everything is natural, but just because it’s natural doesn’t mean your body will accept it.
I find with myself that just about any herbs in the quantity necessary to do any good just upsets my stomach, gives major heartburn and can’t be taken for any sustained period of time necessary to do any good…. :((
I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news, just stating a fact. I would love feedback from others who have sincerely taken herbs and supplements at the correct dosage to chime in and offer advice on how to get your body to accept it without all the kick backs and side effects.
Looking and still hoping….
I have been fighting my self for so long that when I gave in and accepted my female self, I not only find the food listed helps in the feminizing process but is good for my kidneys and may help slow the progression of polycystic kidney disease. Another reason to say goodby to the male me forever.
