Traveling offers a fresh perspective on the world and can be especially liberating for crossdressers and transgender women.
When you go on a trip, it’s an opportunity to express your feminine self away from the routines and expectations of home.
The freedom to be your true self in a new, unfamiliar place can be truly liberating!
Considering all the benefits of taking a transgender or crossdressing vacation, I’m curious: Do you travel en femme?
Please take my poll and share your MTF travel experiences or aspirations in the comments below!

Lucille

I do fly commercial airlines now, and of course drive all over. Checking in at airports, picking up rental car, and checking in at hotels has been fairly smooth the last 3 years or so. It was such a different world only 4-5 years ago, but suddenly TG news in the workplace, marriage, entertainment has provided that cover for being out in public, when before it was all about being a crossdresser, or worse “transvestite”. I still carry in my purse a faux “counseling center letter” from a fictitious therapist with her Psy-D and MFT credentials, stating that I am under her care during my formal transitioning as a TG woman (just in case). My drivers license and passport are still male name, but those photos now show me in longer shoulder-length hair and bangs so I look just like my female self. Because I check-in online and only do carry-on bag and purse, the only place I have to do ID is at start of TSA line with my boarding pass. I offer the letter with my license about 3/4 of the time. The key has been to be VERY casual in female attire, and just go about my business as usual and NOT make any big deal of it – draw no attention to myself. So I always wear skinny jeans and flats, clingy long-sleeve tops and sweater with a silly scarf – ALL in obviously girly colors/tones/flower patterns/lacy accents. I like thin fabrics that show through bra and camisole straps and lace, and deep scoop-neck/v-neck to show cleavage. With shaggy blonde hair and bangs, very average make-up, and nice jewelry ensemble, plus nail polish – the entire “look” blends in very well with how 80-90% of women look at the airport. I also have TSA pre-clear so no taking off coats/sweaters/shoes, no pulling out liquids from luggage, and no radiation body-scan – just put bag on conveyor belt and walk through metal detector, so security goes smoothly. AND I’m always sure to SMILE at everyone, look them in the eye, say “hi” and then I enjoy “Thank you ma’am” or “Okay my dear” from the TSA staff.
I have traveled locally en-femme. Qui`te often when traveling for work out of state, I will dress as male for work, but as soon as I am free from that responsibility, I change into myself, and afterwards go out and live as Kelly. On my trips home, I will drive as Kelly. My most enlightening trips are when I do not take any male clothing, not any androgynous clothing, such tennis shoes, jeans and T-shirts, with me at all. So I dress undeniably feminine, but also age and situationally appropriate. Okay, I sometimes dress down a decade or two. I am not an old lady despite my chronological age. I go with my appearance age. Grins…
I regularly go out in the car, stopping for short breaks, petrol etc and as of yet have not had any issues. I try to dress “age appropriate” and do not do anything, or wear anything, that would draw attention. The only problem for me is using the toilet as I am terrified (almost) of the ladies loo. Having said that, it’s worth the anxiety for the exhilarating feeling of being Diane among other people.
I am Out in Public & Well accepted as the Little Old Lady with her Walker
OMG! We (My kid’s mom, her dad, the kids and I) are moving from New Mexico to Florida early in June, and I have the task of driving the U-Haul while they and grandpa fly.
They think it is an odious task, but I am SOOOO looking forward to driving en femme, and stopping in Dallas, Houston and New Orleans to have some fun!
(Yes, they know I will be stopping, and don’t have a problem with it, but they still think I am doing the more difficult task, he he he….)
I’m not Rich enough to do a whole lot of traveling– but even on road trips of two or 3 hrs I’m usally dressed stop for a meal or two & get Some exposure–
