I chose the name Stephanie Nicole for a couple of reasons. First, Stephanie means “crown or garland”, which felt appropriate because I consider myself a queen haha. Plus I always thought Stephanie was a beautiful name. And middle name Nicole, I chose because it pays homage to my birth name, which is Nicholas. It’s also appropriate because it means Victory of the people. I also chose to honor my given name and not run or hide from it. I don’t consider it a deadname. Who I was is just as important as who I am, and I want to never forget where I came from. The struggles I went through molded me into who I am now. Shokra to ebra. Through struggle, you find who you are.
I toyed with many names but nothing felt right. When I came out to my wife (and after she accepted me), she said I looked like a Kathryn…I loved the name and chose to spell it after one of my female heroes, Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek Voyager. She was a strong, intelligent Starship captain. My middle name, Lynn, is an homage to my wife’s middle name, Linda. And Peters is my middle name slightly altered.
My daughter, who was studying French, and I were discussing possible femme names. Somewhere along the line, I said I liked Nikki. She suggested a first, middle and last name, which I said sounded nice. She started laughing and said that it sounded like French for F— my mouth and a–. I usually skip the middle name, “mouth and” and get an occasional raised eyebrow from Quebecois snowbirds.
I had thought awhile before choosing my feminine name. I decided on two things, the first was to use the same initials as my male name. Second I chose a last name to go with my English/I wish ancestry. I decided on Willow Genna Hennessy..
Julie is a girly name. So it tells the world you are a woman! Why did I pick it? Well here is the new answer. Julie is a baby girl name of Latin and Greek origin. Most commonly associated with the Latin word Iūlius meaning “youthful”, this name is a light and airy choice to celebrate baby’s childlike innocence. Also related to the Greek word ioulos, Julie is a soft, cute word to describe a fluffy or “downy-bearded” dove. Plus, this name isn’t going anywhere thanks to the acclaimed actress Julie Andrews, known for her starring roles in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and Princess Diaries. Between that and my Mom’s friend Joseph telling me on February 17, 2024.
Julie can be associated with the famous actor Judy Garland! She’s the actor that played Dorothy in the wizard of oz. She had a large fan base in the gay community and became a gay icon. She stood among gay men that admired her ability as a performer, the way her personal struggles mirrored those of gay men in the United States during the height of her fame and her value as a camp figure. In the 1960s, a reporter asked how she felt about having a large gay following. She replied, “I couldn’t care less. I sing to people!”
Julie can also be associated with Singer and actress Julie Andrews has long been famed for her perfect pitch and impressive vocal range.
I am glad the name Julie popped in my head one day. Cause I didn’t know and forgot the meaning of Julie and what it can be associated with girlfriend
My 1st/3rd wife (remarried for gawd knows why) started calling me “Kat” because she said I moved like one. That kind of stuck, but extended to “Katarina”. My favorite movie is “The Godfather” and I’m Italian, so I adopted the last name of “Corleone”. That’s my story. I’m sticking to it.
Haha… you should have used Andolini…
