It’s impossible not to feel totally girly in a beautiful bra…
But did you know there’s a good chance you are wearing the WRONG size bra?
Don’t feel bad… 80% of bra wearers are too! This includes crossdressers and transgender women – as well as cisgender (genetic) women.
Wearing the correct bra size is critical. Bras that don’t fit right are uncomfortable and look bad under your clothes.
In this blog post, I’ll show you how to find your correct MTF bra size so you can choose the perfect bra for your female transformation.
How to Determine Your Correct Bra Size – Without Breast Forms
Determining your correct bra size begins with a choice: Will you be wearing breast forms with the bra?
In this section, I’ll explain how to find the correct bra size for your ACTUAL breasts (without breast forms). In the section below, I’ll show you how to find the correct bra size if you wear breast forms.
There are several ways to measure your bra size. The method below is simplest way to measure your bra size. This method is used by Victoria’s Secret and most modern bra manufacturers:
Step 1: Measure your band size
Place a tape measure under your arms and measure your chest circumference just above the breasts. The tape measure should be about the level where your bra straps meet the bra.
This measurement is your BAND SIZE. (Note: If the measurement is an odd number, round down to the nearest even number.)
Step 2: Measure your bust size
Stand up tall and measure across the fullest part of your bust. The tape measure should be parallel to the floor and shouldn’t be too tight or too loose.
This is your BUST SIZE. (Note: If the measurement is between inches, round up to the nearest inch.)
Step 3: Calculate your cup size
Subtract your band size (from Step 1) from your bust size (from Step 2) and check the chart below to determine your cup size:
If The Difference Is: | Your Cup Size Is: |
0″-1/2″ (1.3 cm) | AA |
1/2″- 1″ (2.6 cm) | A |
2″ (5.1 cm) | B |
3″ (7.6 cm) | C |
4″ (10.2 cm) | D |
5″ (12.7 cm) | DD or E |
6″ (15.2 cm) | DDD or F |
7″ (17.8 cm) | G |
8″ (20.3 cm) | H |
9” (22.9 cm) | I |
10″ (25.4 cm) | J |
For example, if your band size is 40” and your bust size is 44”, the difference is 4”. That would make you a D cup.
Your bra size is a combination of your band size and your cup size. (Bra size = band size + cup size) In this case, your bra size would be a 40D.
IMPORTANT: This size should be considered a starting point, as sizing varies from bra to bra. If possible, try on the actual bra before you buy.
How to Determine Your Correct Bra Size – With Breast Forms
If you wear breast forms, the process for finding your bra size is a bit different. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Measure your band size
(Note: These instructions are the same as above, but I’ll repeat them here.)
Place a tape measure under your arms and measure your chest circumference just above the breasts. The tape measure should be about the level where your bra straps meet the bra.
This measurement is your BAND SIZE. (Note: If the measurement is an odd number, round down to the nearest even number.)
Step 2: Determine your ideal cup size
The next step is to determine the cup size you want to achieve. This should be a size that’s proportionate to your body: Not too big and not too small.
Generally speaking, the larger your body frame is, the larger your cup size should be.
Here are some guidelines:
- Choose an B or C cup if you have a small frame.
- Choose a C or D cup if you have a medium frame.
- Choose a D cup or larger if you have a large frame.
Once you know your correct band size and desired cup size, you can purchase the proper bra and breast forms.
Easy right? 🙂
Finding A Bra That Fits
Knowing your correct bra size is one thing. Actually FINDING that bra is another.
Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to find bras outside the standard size range.
Here are some sites that carry a large range of bra sizes:
- Barenecessities.com – Bare Necessities offers a huge selection of bras, including plus size bras with smaller cup sizes. (Perfect for girls who don’t wear breast forms.)
- HerRoom.com – Her Room is another large lingerie site that stocks hard to find sizes. They offer band sizes up to 58, so there’s a bra for almost everybody.
- BiggerBras.com – BiggerBras.com specializes in plus size bras and carries a large range of cup sizes.
Another option is to purchase a bra extender. A bra extender is an elasticized piece of fabric that hooks onto the back of your bra. It can add 1-3 inches to the bra band, so it’s a great solution for bras that are too tight.
So there you are, girlfriend! Everything you need to know about finding your correct bra size.
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave me your comments below. And if you have any beautiful bra pics, don’t forget to include them!
Love,
Lucille

I wear padding and I have tried to find the best bras to wear and feel comfortable with it.
NuBra is your friend, which is something I really discovered from this site. I’m working on developing some cup size between herbal and hormones but NuBra has made a lot of difference to start in terms of look and confidence. I’ve had a lot of help at Victoria’s Secret though I know it can depend from store to store.
i agree nubras give you wonderful cleavage, but i suggest using a push up bra on top of your nubra. The reason is i found your breasts can get warm and sweat and the nubra looses its adhesive abilities, a bra over them helps keep them in place . other wise they will fall off 40 minutes later or if your active and produce more sweat. I find this method works far better then a nubra alone.

is a under wire bra better,
http://www.apparelshopusa.com/11_wonderbra
under wires can get uncomfy if you have a bra thats are to small and they say the are unhealthy to wear them. but i find if you have the right size you can wear them for at least 6hrs but there is alternate bras with out wires and they are more comfy. the only draw back is every now and then you may have to reposition a breast they may slip a little if your active and you wont look as big then but i like them . wires are more of a fashion statement. they can maximize your size but can limit the natural flow of liquids to and from your breasts. Some doctors dont recommend them. love Annie
This is a great article I even helped my wife find a bra that fits better because of it. My size is 40a almost a 40b and still growing I take saw palmetto and fenugreek. I have always had some breast but now a lot more. I love having them it makes me feel like I am supposed to.
is a under wire bra better, and should it fit smaller than my size?
i have been useing perfectwoman breast cream for two years and have some help but still would like larger breast. can you help?
I’d like to leave a brief note if I may. While I received some very rude treatment to my words on this subject recently on a plastic surgeon website, (with a very civil, non-self promoting style)–apparently as they saw me (incorrectly) as a attack on their business, I will insist–here–that acupuncture with some herbal supplementation can make a difference. Look, breasts are glandular organs, and a change in the hormonal foundation of a body, along with acupuncture (a modality which can be very powerful), can–indeed–have an impact. I, myself, have seen this approach lead to a one cup-size augmentation, over a relatively short period of time. If you will “google” this subject you will find information about a Chinese study which found that results will vary, but a one to two cup-size increase is not uncommon.
Nice site. ; )
Slight typo in my original message. Their attitude was distinctly UNCIVIL, while mine was civil and non self-promoting. Yes, herbs can help, too…including Maca. Please have a wonderful day.
Annie, you look great!!
P.S.
with HGH i have shaved a few years off my age. Do i look like I’m Almost 70 yrs old?
Annie
acupuncture has to do with energy flow and changing there of. some one who is a pro cant harm you. and the emotional change it does can help. but this method
should be done by a pro . it can balance you body thus improving your chances for more growth. A lot of growth potential is effected by your attitude . you must also be healthy. But its really mostly determined by heredity. it would be very hard to out grow your natural mother. The best you can do is equal her, but most of the time you fall one size under. if you are desperate you can add HGH to your hormone regime , its risky because it can be like pouring gas on a fire if you have any tumors you dont know about. best have a physical if you want to try adding HGH. but i found it very useful , not only it can help breasts grow it can reduce your belly give you more energy and help you look and feel younger. but be for warned about the risk of super charging any tumor groth. you should use caution and follow the instructions carefully and never take more then recommended
love Annie
I don’t mean to be wildly rude, however, a lot of trans womens’ lives depend on finding good, solid information about their transition.
Acupuncture will not help with breast growth. When this does not work for someone who has reached maximum growth with hormones, you are risking someone’s life.
Ive started crossdressing I enjoy wearing pantys stockings I now want to wear a bra
Breast forms are a c cup my chest size is 46 in im wearing size 16 pantys they fit fine should I go for size 16 c cup bra thanks for your help
love u all… i feel here free , you r my real family
my cup size is A … 🙁
myas, there is nothing wrong with an A cup, I find wearing an A or even AA cup much more sexy than wearing forms. A woman, born or made, is just as sexy with an A cup as with a D cup or a J cup, in my humble opinion. Even if you do sometimes have to shop in the girls section. And, contrary to popular belief, A cups on a born woman will work just as well for their primary biological purpose, though they may not remain A cups. 😉
