It’s amazing how much our names shape our identities. Some names feel like a perfect fit from the start, while others never quite resonate with us.
However, crossdressers and transgender women have the unique opportunity to choose their own feminine names.
Every great MTF name has a story behind it, and I’d love to hear YOURS.
How did you choose your feminine name?
Please tell us your story in the comments below, and if you can, share a photo too. It’s always lovely to put a face to a name!
Love,
Lucille
I chose something very close to my birth name, keeping my birth initials, LRB. Thus, Lowell Richard Bushey became Laura Rose Bushey.
I thought it was a pretty name – Jennifer which is the first letter that matches my name assigned at birth.
Lots of great celebrities with the name as well and also very feminine I think. Later a friend said she felt it was pretty basic and suggested the name Joyce which I think is a nicer more energized vibrant name so torn between both now!
I actually went through the process of choosing a preferred name twice. First, I chose the name Caelan as a gender neutral name when I first discovered I wasn’t cis, and figured out that part of my identity was feminine, but didn’t yet know that my identity was predominantly feminine to the point where I now identify as a trans woman. Once I came to the realization that I am a trans woman I went through the whole process again, and came to the conclusion that the name Ceileigh (pronounced KAY-lee) was the best fit for me. Both times I started by brainstorming what names I would feel good to be addressed by, and looked at several online lists of names, then I narrowed the list down using criteria, such as culture of origin, and meaning. Unlike most other tans women I actually wanted something close to my deadname, because for me my deadname was more like a past life as opposed to something unwanted or unwelcome, and I was still somewhat accustomed to my deadname despite concluding that something else would fit me better. Thus, the first criteria I used to whittle down the list was by only looking at names beginning with the letter C, preferably a hard C. This, criteria proved useful beyond my initial considerations, given that I think it helped others in my life more easily remember and acclimatize to my new name. The next criteria was narrowing down the list to names of Gaelic origin, given that I have both Scottish and Nortnern Irish heritage. Finally, I looked at the meanings of the names that remained. Caelan, can mean either “slender” or “powerful warrior” (both fit because I am rather thin for my height, and at the time practiced martial arts) , and Ceiliegh is Scottish Gaelic for “a party among close friends”. I just recently applied to change my legal first name to Ceileigh marking a significant milestone in my journey of exploring my gender. In the process I also applied to change my middle name, and that followed a similar process of name selection.
I liked Kelli and Jennifer for my name. Kelli with an I always seemed like a sexy name. But, Jennifer won out because I like Jennifer Aniston. She is so Beautiful. a lot.
My feminine name is Xaryn i wanted exotic na fem name
Mine was pretty easy it was between Danielle or Zoey but the one I did have difficulty with was my middle name and there was no way it would present it’s self as a female so I had my friends choose a middle that I went with Danielle because my dad gave me the name as Daniel, so I went with Danielle instead of Zoey but I would have taken Zoey. But I needed something that went with Danielle and a lot of them chose Nicole so I adopted that name for my middle name to replace Franklin.
My femme name is Charlotte. My girlfriend loves my feminine side and helps me not feel so self-couscious about it. She picked the name “Charlotte” for me, since it has a sultry ring to it and that’s just like me when I dress for my feminine self. I’ve been on estrogen for almost a year now and am growing nicely. I’m too old to pass as a woman, but never too old to feel like one, and I’m happier now with my femininity than I ever have been.
I chose the name Jennifer because of the actress Jennifer Aniston who I think is absolutely beautiful plus I just always like that name LOL
