It’s amazing how much our names shape our identities. Some names feel like a perfect fit from the start, while others never quite resonate with us.
However, crossdressers and transgender women have the unique opportunity to choose their own feminine names.
Every great MTF name has a story behind it, and I’d love to hear YOURS.
How did you choose your feminine name?
Please tell us your story in the comments below, and if you can, share a photo too. It’s always lovely to put a face to a name!
Love,
Lucille
I chose my feminine first name as Samantha because it means someone who is a good listener, and I just liked how it sounded. I chose my middle name as Joan after the ultimate girl-power figure Joan of Arc.
I wanted to keep my original initials so for my first name but I didn’t want a traditional name like Mary or Michelle so I took my mother’s maiden name and added a bit. For my last name (which no one could ever pronounce) which in Ireland is pronounced hawk (Haugh) I went with Hawkins.
I struggled with and bounced back and forth between a couple of names. Initially wanted to use either Monica or Veronica and I asked my mother what she and my father would have named me. Elizabeth. I stuck that name in the middle and considered changing my last name as well to Adams so I’d be Monica Elizabeth Adams … MEA which led me to Mia. Mia was met with much applause and celebration.
I struggled with my name for years. It changed a few times, too. I remember the first name I used was Jennifer because I’d never seen an ugly Jennifer and as a woman I wanted to be beautiful. Over the years I realized that while a pretty name, Jennifer just wasn’t for me so I went back to searching again. Then at a job I had I ran into a woman by the name of Danyelle. I instantly fell in love with the name. It was non traditional, which fit in with the spelling of my sisters’ names, and it matched my first initial, my male name is David. Although in recent years I’ve been tossing around the name Davina after hearing it on TV. Either way though I feel I’m going to stick with the name Danyelle.
I started with Amanda, as I am A Man Duh. Later, I added Sara and my last name to come up with SAM, the nick name of the actress on Stargate STG 1. (Amanda Tapping) What a beautiful actress.
Billie is feminine form of my name.
My aunt Christine (who discovered me) asked me if I had a girls name – I was 16 at the time. I didn’t and just blurted out a few that I knew – you look like a Diane, she said and it’s been Diane ever since. I love it, so a big thank you to Christine xxx
My name come from two places when my brother called me Satan, and a work place called me devil boy, so I tried all sorts of ways to feminise it then come up to putting ia at the end SATAN IA = SATANIA
