Do you think looking your best as a trans woman or crossdresser means that you need a head-to-toe makeover – or even feminizing surgery?
It doesn’t! Looking beautiful often comes down to a few simple changes.
Of course, the basics are important. Nice hair and makeup, flattering clothes, and a reasonably fit body are a great starting point.
But beyond that, it’s the details that can make or break your feminine image.
Want to look better right now? Here are 7 simple ways to improve your MTF appearance:
1. Find Your Best Lipstick Shade
One of the easiest ways to improve your appearance is to wear lipstick. A Manchester University study proved that women are perceived as more attractive when they wear lipstick – regardless of the rest of their appearance.
The secret is to wear the right shade of lipstick. Here are two quick tips for selecting your best shade:
- Use your eyes as a guide. For the most flattering look, your lips should be the same intensity as the iris of your eye. (The iris is the colored part of your eye.) For example, if you have light blue eyes, wear a light shade of lipstick. If you have dark brown eyes, a deeper shade will be most flattering.
- Do the fingertip test. To easily test lipstick shades, put different colors on your fingertips and hold them against your mouth to see which looks best.
2. Groom Your Eyebrows
Your eyebrows literally create the frame for your face. For better or for worse, they have the power to transform your entire look.
The good news is that there’s a lot you can do to shape and feminize your eyebrows – even if you can’t pluck. Check out my post on MTF Eyebrows | How to Feminize Male to Female Eyebrows to learn more.
3. Invest In A Great Bag
Women often judge each other based on their handbags. After all, why do women in certain circles pay thousands of dollars for the latest “it” bag?
I’m not saying you need to buy a Gucci purse, but investing in a quality handbag will add polish and style to your appearance – while giving you fashionista status among other women.
4. Get Rid Of Excess Body Hair
The truth is, physical attractiveness often comes down to good grooming. One of the keys to good grooming – and a feminine appearance – is to get rid of excess body hair.
You already know that your beard, chest hair, and hairy legs have to go. But don’t forget about the less obvious spots, including your:
- Nose
- Ears
- Knuckles
- Toes

5. Wear The Right Shapewear
The right shapewear can have a dramatic effect on your silhouette. It smooths out excess flesh and helps to feminize your proportions.
The best shapewear for you depends on your outfit and how much shaping you need. Consider investing in the following garments:
- Control top pantyhose. Perfect for smoothing out your trouble spots, they also add polish and definition to the legs.
- Waist cincher. Use this when you need extra shaping in the middle and want to carve out an hourglass shape.
- Shaping camisole. Wear one under your everyday clothes to smooth your belly and love handles.
6. Whiten Your Teeth
Yellow teeth dull your appearance. Don’t underestimate the impact of pretty white teeth. A white smile brightens up your entire face!
I suggest using a whitening toothpaste daily and doing a whitening treatment every six months. There are some great at-home options, including:
7. Get Enough Sleep
They don’t call it beauty rest for nothing. A lack of sleep shows up on your face – no matter how pretty and feminine you look. Make it a priority to get plenty of sleep at night.
Need help falling or staying asleep? Check out my Sleep and Sparkle Program. This unique program combines sleep hypnosis with feminizing suggestions to improve your sleep AND your feminine transformation.
Small changes add up to big improvements
The bottom line is that there are a LOT of ways to improve your appearance without having to invest in a new wardrobe, hire a transformation service, or go under the knife.
Little changes can have a big impact on your feminine image!
These 7 tips are a great place to start, but now I’d like to hear from YOU…

Hi Lucille
I saw what you said about having a good purse and wanted to let you know that I was out in a Target the other day and wasn’t looking for anything in particular when I noticed a purse that was on sale.
It is off black so that it go’s with just about anything that I wear.
It is fairly big and it’s easy to open and close.
Inside it has compartments for various items that a girl has to have with her.
It’s large enough to hold my cell phone and glass case along with my wallet and nemesis other things.
One of the compartments is strictly for my personal hygien items like hand lotion and feminine products.
The other one holds my I D and my credit card with my female name on both of them.
It has a little zipper compartment on the outside of it where I keep my money and car keys along with my drivers license.
It has a shoulder strap and it can be shortened so that I can carry it on my side.
When I saw it and how much that Iliked it there wasn’t any question about if I would buy it or not.
Being on sale was just another thing that told me that I needed it
I’ve been out with it a few times and I’ve been asked where I found it.
I just smile and tell them that I bought it on line.
Thought that you’d like to hear about my wonderful find

Hello,
Whenever I can, I take advantage of the free makeovers at cosmetic counters, but I usually buy something in return. You also learn a lot of tips from the women that work there.
Enjoy,

Not sure why photo did not attach.
And maybe one more point. The right coordination of colors between hair, eyes, skin, lipstick, a dress and heels. At first it’s a new science for many girls. But the skill becomes with the experience.
Thanks, Lucille, for all your advices and programmes. You discovered the new world for me. I would like to add one more point to these points: invest to the great dress. I adore dresses and can’t live without them. Recently I’ve counted my dresses and the result was 153 dresses. In the pic below I am in a french designer dress which I love very much. I live as a woman 24/7/365 four years. I enjoy to be a girl.
Lovely dress worn by a lovely Lady. Well done Margo
Thank you. I would like to add smile. It is a very feminine weapon.
I have a big issue. Sadly I have an abdominal hernia, which has my stomach bulging out. I wonder how much a body shapper or corset would/could help me.
The thing I see that kills so many girls in this community is skin… search youtube for “transgender transition video.” these are usually girls on hormones and document the changes… they are stunning. hormones help, but you can achieve smooth soft skin naturally. male skin is recognizable because of larger pores, and tendency to show more blemishes overall. though this is not entirely true for all women – think of heavy smokers in their forties and beyond… they often lose their skins softness and elasticity, HOWEVER, often there are other things working against these women, like lack of exercise, and poor nutrition, or skincare regimen including sunscreen. exercise, such as running, cycling, or other cardio heavy sports (soccer too) will help your body rejuvenate itself, including the skin. take care of yourself and your skin will show it. makeup only goes so far.
great advice in this column. smile, laugh, and choose to be happy, don’t let others decide how happy and fulfilled your life can be! be well!

Hi, great tips to follow. I love wearing lipstick, keep myself completely hair free from the neck down and eye brows neatly shaped. I wear hue opaque tights in cooler weather. I did purchase a corset from Orchard Corsets, just need to get better at lacing it up, it does really give me a truly feminine shape! I love my crossbody handbags, have several in different colors and styles, change them up depending on the season. I do need to get some of the creast white strips and sometimes do not get enough sleep, need to work on that. I really appreciate the tips you offer us girls!
Kristin 🙂
