6 Essential Transgender / Crossdressing Panties Styles
Before you start building (or expanding on) your panty wardrobe, it’s helpful to know the most common underwear styles.
Here are 6 essential panty styles – along with the pros and cons for crossdressers and transgender women.
Brief
Briefs are a full coverage panty style with a bit of a vintage flair. Briefs come in different variations, including high/low waist and high/low leg styles.
Briefs are a great option for crossdressers and transgender women since they are comfortable and offer good coverage in the crotch area. The downside is that they tend to show panty lines.
Bikini
Bikini panties are similar to briefs, but with less coverage – i.e. a lower waist and higher leg openings. This gives them a sexier look, while still retaining the comfort factor.
Bikini panties are one of the most popular panty styles and a solid addition to your panty wardrobe.
Thong
Thongs are an undeniably sexy panty style that offers the least amount of coverage. However, traditional women’s thongs can be difficult to wear given the lack of fabric in the crotch area.
The best solution would be to choose a thong panty specifically designed for the MTF transgender body or look for a women’s style with a wider crotch area.
Boyshorts
Boyshorts are a women’s version of boxer briefs. Boyshorts offer the most coverage of all the panty styles.
While this isn’t the sexiest panty, it’s very comfortable and can still look cute and feminine in the right fabric and style. Boyshorts are a great option for lounging.
Hipster
The hipster is a low-rise panty style that’s sort of a cross between bikini panties and boy shorts. It offers more coverage than bikini panties, but less coverage than boy shorts.
Hipster panties can be a good option for trans women and crossdressers. However, avoid panties that are cut too low at the waist if you have love handles or a belly; this can give you that muffin top look.
Gaff
A gaff is underwear that’s specifically designed for crossdressers and trans women for the purpose of tucking male anatomy. This is important if you want to create a smooth look under tight fitting clothing.
Gaffs are most commonly seen in thong styles, but you can also find bikini-style gaffs with more coverage in the back.
What Are The Best Fabrics For Panties?
Now that we’ve covered the most common panty styles, let’s talk about the fabric. The material your panties are made of will have a big impact on the overall look and comfort level.
Cotton
Cotton is a classic panty fabric that’s soft, breathable, and comfortable. This is a great choice for sleeping in or lounging around the house.
Satin
Satin panties are definitely a favorite among crossdressers and transgender women. They look sexy and feel great against the skin.
Lace
Lace panties are undeniably sexy. The downside to this fabric is that it offers less support and the lacy texture can show through certain garments.
Nylon/Spandex
Nylon/spandex panties are very popular. These are synthetic fabric blends that have a silky feel and are very stretchy and comfortable.
How To Measure And Find Your Right Panty Size
Fit is critical when it comes to panties. Ill-fitting panties can bag, bunch, or squeeze in all the wrong places. Not only does this look bad, it’s also very uncomfortable.
Here’s how to measure your proper panty size and ensure that you’ve found your perfect fit.
How to measure your panty size
Step 1: Measure your waist
Using a tape measure, measure the narrowest part of your waist. This will typically be around the level of your belly button.
Step 2: Measure your hips
Keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor, measure around the fullest part of your hips and behind.
Step 3: Determine your size
Using these two numbers, find your size by referring to the panty size chart below.
Note: Size charts can vary among clothing brands, so always refer to the manufacturer’s size chart before purchasing your panties.
How should your panties fit?
- Crotch – Should offer complete coverage without bunching or sagging.
- Waistband – Shouldn’t bunch, roll, or dig into the skin.
- Leg opening – Should feel comfortable and not squeeze into the skin.
- Buttocks – Shouldn’t bunch or ride up. If the panties ride up, try a larger size.

I am very happy that I stumbled upon Lucille’s blog and website. She is really a good friend for men like us who are transitioning into she males and then onto womanhood or just men who love wearing silky and lacey clothing, especially lingerie!
As for panty preferences, I started out with the brand basics like Warner’s, Maidenform, Jockey, VS, etc., and they all produce beautiful lingerie but remember girls, their market is primarily for cisgendered women. Other strictly online sellers will reach out to cisgender men and trans women to purchase their lingerie lines because we are an untapped market of ravaging buyers!
For me personally, I’ve discovered the lingerie on Temu to be the best in panties because of the stretch in fabric and that they add lace in all the right laces. ThirdLove is also an online store that has more accommodations for men’s proportions especially in the crotch area.
Absolutely bikini.
Thank You for creating this, there are a few things I wish you would have included though. 1st you mentioned measurements and using size charts, but wish you’d gone into more what to do when your waist and hip measurements are in totally different sizes. For example in most cases I’m a size 6-7 in the hips, but a 12-13 in the waist. Which makes shopping for the right size very challenging. Especially when you add in cut and fabric. Which I also wish you’d gone into more. While agree lace is very sexy i’ve found its also often the least stretchy and least accommodating to male genitals. All the styles you mentioned seem to be more about the butt coverage then anything. Same company and style can have wide variety in the front coverage. Especially when it comes to the way they often like to dip the front down in a ‘V’ or ‘scoop’ Even waistband tend to be best even though rare that the ‘waist’ band actually ever hits waist. My wife loves hiphuggers/hipsters for herself and me but I personally can’t stand them. Sure they tend to get away from the waist issue but somehow no matter what size I try hipsters seem to always want to fall off/down, never have this issue with any other style. I’ve found cut and fabric are the big ones, does it have enough coverage in the front to cover and/or enough stretch in the fabric to accommodate without pulling the waistband down. My wife recommended I go up in sizing which meant going from my mostly Large Victoria’s Secret to XL but I found the XL’s just swim on me and back to issue of they tend to want to fall down sometimes but more too loose/baggy in the crotch. I can still often get a medium as long as the fabric has some stretch and the cut is accommodating. I’m not working with a lot but it does make a difference and I’m sure some of your readers would especially benefit from a more stretch fabric. Also would of been worth mentioning Victoria’s Secret has a very friendly exchange policy, though a little less than they used to be. They used to have a 90 day essentially no questions asked as long as tag still attached (though heard some products tag didn’t even need to be attached), they are still pretty easy about returns but its now 30 days, some locations won’t take back if over 30 days, while others still will but for store credit instead of back to payment method. Another brand hop you’ll include in the future that I think is even better than Victoria’s Secret (which I love) is Savage X Fenty, they even have a unisex line of clothes as well as their womens & now mens lines. I will say that some of their sizing can be erratic but they have a very friendly mail order exchange policy, again as long as tags still attached no questions or problems returning. I mentioned their mens because they have mens thong that is very nice and imagine some of your readers might like. Also could be worth mentioned Victoria’s Secret & Pink while all Victoria’s Secret the two lines can fit very different and I’ve found the Pink tends to run smaller even if you buy the same size in both the Pink will tend to be smaller. Example almost universally I’ve found I’m an XL in almost anyone’s sports bras mostly just to get over my shoulders, smaller tends top ‘pop’ when I try to get it on. I’ve never had this issue with a Victoria’s Secret XL but some Pink XL’s still have this issue and often fit more like Victoria’s Secret (& Savage X Fenty) Large’s. Savage X Fenty tends to more closely match Victoria’s Secret sizing, then Victoria’s Secret & Pink tend to match.
I know this was all about panties, but imagine many of your readers would love a similar for leggings. Two years ago I tried leggings for the first time and love them but even more challenging to find the right size with leggings. For me especially depends on cut and have yet to have any luck with the popular ‘high waist’. Victoria’s Secret not high waist I tried size 8, 10, 12, 14 & 16. 16 were enormous, 14 I thought fit but wife said were too big. In the end wife (though not a fan of me wearing leggings) said both the 10 & 12 fit me, it was a matter of which was more comfortable. Then when I tried Savage X Fenty leggings I first tried Medium & Large as Medium should have been similar to Victoria’s Secret size 10 & Large their size 12. Large in Savage X Fenty were enormous and even the mediums seemed closer to Victoria’s Secret size 14 in fit. So then tried Small and XS in Savage X Fenty and found the size small Savage X Fenty fit about perfect, even their high waist size small weren’t horrible. I was able to get the XS on, but all I had to try in their XS was the high waist which just rolled down on me so as far as I can find that means those are too small. Savage X Fenty leggings are also some of the longest I’ve found, quite a bit longer than Victoria’s Secret long line.
I have a vast selection of panties I’ve accumulated over the years, over 200. Last time I counted July 2021 I was at 235 and I’ve added some since then. I’ve been looking to scale back some for room. But don’t want to throw away, if anyone knows of any ‘second hand’ for panties. Many have never been worn or only worn once or twice and then I decided I didn’t like the way they fit. The more I wear them the more I determine what I like and don’t like and what I just don’t care to wear.
Poll, personally my favorite is high leg brief or high leg bikini. I included one of my favorite high leg, can’t recall if this one was high leg bikini or high leg brief. I really love both more than any other style.
Thank you again for creating this,.
Well said comments. You thought it through quite nicely.
Her room actually has a choice for panties with a wide crotch, and they give you the width measurement of the crotch on many panties.
Enjoy your feminine side.❤️
