Your walk is a critical aspect of your female image. Learning how to walk in a naturally feminine way can do wonders to enhance your overall appearance.
Unfortunately, it’s easy to go from one extreme (a masculine walk) to the other (over-exaggerated hip swinging).
How can you find a happy medium as you master your feminine movements? I’m glad you asked!
In this article, I share 3 simple tips to help you achieve a natural, womanly walk. Read on to learn more!
1. Try the Hip Matrix
A big difference between men and women is that women tend to have more fluid body movements.
That means you can sway your hips all you want – but until you learn how to “loosen up” your body, your feminine walk will look stiff and unnatural.
The Hip Matrix can help with this. Created by movement specialist Rob Brinded, the Hip Matrix exercise is designed to release tension and free up your body movements so you can achieve a flowing, feminine walk.
Watch the video above and then try it for yourself. If you compare your walk before and after, I promise you’ll be amazed by the difference!
P.S. You can learn more about Rob’s approach to feminine movement in my Stepping Out Secrets Program.
2. Practice in High Heels
Women have a lower center of gravity than men due to their wider hips. This creates that sexy hip sway that’s characteristic of a feminine walk.
Forcing your hips to sway usually looks unnatural. Instead, practice walking in high heels. High heels change your center of gravity and exaggerate the forward curve of your spine. This helps release the hips, which naturally feminizes your movements.
You can enhance this effect by trying to keep your shoulders still as you walk. This forces you to use your hips for balance.
Once you’ve mastered hip walking in heels, practice the same movements in flat shoes.
3. Shorten Your Stride
Shortening your stride is another easy and effective way to feminize your walk.
The average woman’s step length (the distance from the toe of one foot to the toe of the opposite foot) is 26”. So if you want to be scientific about it, get out a ruler and measure your steps! Your natural stride is probably longer, so work on taking shorter steps.
Note: The higher your heels are, the shorter your steps should be.
Conclusion
There are other subtle elements that define a feminine walk, but these tips are a great place to start. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
I’d also love to hear about any other movement tips or techniques you’ve found helpful. Please share in the comments below.

How about some foot binding? This precursor to high-heels worked a charm for billions of Chinese women in expressing their true womanhood for a thousand years!
Honey, foot binding is both HIGHLY dangerous, and also illegal.
For good reason.
I just found your website and I am very impressed. I have been trying to walk like a girl long before I came out. I have heels they are only 2 1/2 inches do I need a 4 or 5 inch heels. I am doing good at walking like a girl. I also had to learn to keep my heel off of the floor when I drive or they get ruined. I lost my favorite 4inch stiletto heels that cost almost $200 and I was so pissed that they were a total lose. I saved up and bought a different pair a little more than the other ones but I went to a 5 inch stiletto heels. My first pair were the 4 inch stiletto heels. I can walk in stiletto heels all day now without falling. W Germany had great shoe selection and they always treated me like any other girl in the store because I only tried on women’s shoes and I bought about 20 – 25 pairs and I bought expensive shoes because they were so pretty. I love pretty and expensive shoes. I love stiletto heels would I walk more feminine in higher stiletto heels.
Lady, I consider you very lucky because you can wear 4, 5, and 6 inch heels. I envy you so much. : ( I used to have a pair of 4 inch heels but I had to give them away because of a toe injury I suffered when I was in my early teens so now, I am restricted lower heels and almost cry because I cannot wear those beautiful high heels
Since my company has left I’ve tried walking in my new wedged heel’s for while get use to em but after wearing them for certain period time they begin hurt my feet til point I have take em off should try keep them or buy another pair that don’t hurt after have them on for while I hate wasting money
you know–Just wear them till your feet get a little sore—then try again a little later—Practice & it becomes second nature—-Just don’t overdo it at any one time—-

I noticed that not all women n girls be walk that way or in stride seems they have different similarity’s to walking an movement it’s best pick one or two people u like to copy off of possibly combine the two together I myself trying come up with my way of walking
Mine we’re starting to sway but somehow I losted my stride an since have certain company staying here now can’t practice my walk like should may have spent money on wedged heel’s for nothing since can’t wear em like want to
Help me with this please!
IMO money spent on heels is never money wasted. I’ve been out and living full time for two years. I wear heels or wedges almost every day, especially at work. What Lucille says is true, but I’ll add a couple of things.
There’s an old finishing school trick of practicing walking with a book balanced on your head. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. If you can do it in heels, so much the better, but even in flats it will work.
Walking on a tile floor with prominently visible joints is another good exercise. Try to keep your feet within the joints of one tile width. Women tend to place one foot in front of the other when we walk. I’ve done it so much that any time I’m on a tile floor I check myself without thinking about it, even though I know I don’t need to.
Good luck getting it down. You will, trust me. No one of us, cis or trans, is born knowing how to walk like a woman. It’s something we all have to learn.
it a lot to read and remember
Luv practicing in high heels and thigh highs, especially while wearing a slip. Hip pads help accentuate fluidity and provide realistic curves.
Lucille,
As always your tips are priceless. I recommend for the girls just learning the joy of wearing and walking in heels, start with a “cheaper” pump. You do not want to scratch or scuff up a pair of Christian Louboutins learning the art of femininity.
As always,
Have fun Dressing,
