Do you feel like you don’t fit into traditional gender norms?
Whether you’re a crossdresser, a transgender woman, or someone who embraces a different gender identity, one thing is clear: society still has a lot to learn about gender non-conforming people.
Do you agree? If so, let’s talk about it!
What do you wish people understood about you?
Whether it’s the people closest to you or the world at large, what message would you like to share?
The more voices and perspectives out there, the more others will hopefully begin to understand.
I’d love to hear from you, so please share in the comments below!
Love,
Lucille
This comment is absolutely off topic but I felt like it had to be pointed out. Lucille, your website design is AMAZING! It’s really perfect! Feminine and highly functional, I love it.
Wow, thank you Laura!! We worked hard on the site, so that makes me so happy to hear. 🙂
I am “gender non-conforming (GNC)”, “non-binary” & “genderqueer”. In short, the difference is that genderqueer tends to be a more in-your-face label & political than GNC or non-binary. I would like people to know many things:
All of these labels along with a myriad of related synonyms mostly all fall under the transgender umbrella. Gender is a spectrum. And gender is different than anatomy. (But even anatomy is a spectrum because of the reality & existence of intersex people. Intersex people may or may not be transgender.) Someone is transgender when they come to realize & understand that their true gender is different from the gender that they were assigned at birth, which at birth tends to be what they see your anatomy is. Regardless of your anatomy (& I’m deliberately, avoiding the very confusing word “sex”), gender is how you feel on the inside in your heart, mind & soul. There are essentially two types of transgender people: Those that transition all the way from one end of the gender spectrum to the other, more or less. Those transgender people for practical matters operate & (when they feel safe enough) still present in a very binary manner. Then there are transgender people who transition (if even only internally) only partway across the gender spectrum. Those transgender people are GNC, non-binary & genderqueer people.
Being GNC, non-binary &/or genderqueer, especially those transitioning away from being masculine towards being more feminine, is an exceptionally difficult thing to figure out for yourself in a very binary world. It is even harder to present as one’s true self in a non-binary, GNC, or gender-variant manner in a very binary society. Ridicule is unwelcome & unhelpful; it is even hurtful.
While crossdressing, as a verb, is an action; being a crossdresser does not make you transgender. In fact, most crossdressers identify as a cisgender person.
Regardless, if someone is a binary or a non-binary transgender person, or a crossdresser, they are OK (as in not unhealthy) & is a legitimate human being that deserves equal rights & equal respect as any other cisgender human being. They/We Simply want to live our individual lives in the manner we see fit and then and that makes us most comfortable and happy. We are not out to convert, hurt or pervert anyone else. Please think about that & respect us when you exercise your right to vote.
Please ignore the word “else” at the end of my second to last sentence there.
