Your hair is a big part of your female image. While feminine hair is typically associated with long hair, short hair can also look cute, fun, and sexy!
There are lots of reasons why transgender women and crossdressers might opt for a shorter hairstyle. For one thing, short hair is practical and low-maintenance. It also makes a bold fashion statement!
Now obviously, shorter hairstyles can lean towards a more masculine look. However, with the right cut and styling, MTF short hairstyles can look chic and feminine.
In this blog, I’ll share my top 3 tips for feminizing short hair. Read on to learn more!
3 Tips for Feminizing MTF Short Hairstyles
1. Get a cute haircut
The first thing you need is a great haircut that can be styled in different ways. Choppy layered styles are fashionable and look great in both male and female modes.
Ask your hairstylist to show you different options for styling your hair. Layers that are swept towards the face are very feminine and flattering. Curls are another great, girly option.
2. Try a hair accessory
Transgender women with short hair look fantastic with barrettes and headbands, so this is an easy way to feminize a short haircut.
You can wear hair accessories at any age, but choose something appropriate. Stay away from girly bows or headbands after age 30. Instead, go for something sophisticated like a beautiful barrette or a pretty flower for your hair.
3. Wear a hat
Hats are a great fashion accessory. They make a bold fashion statement and add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
Hats also offer an easy way to feminize your hairstyle. In fact, you don’t even have to do your hair! Just throw on a pretty hat and you’re good to go.
Be sure to consider the season when selecting a hat. That means you’ll want to avoid knit hats in the summer and straw hats in the winter. Felt hats can be worn year round except for during the hottest months.
Let’s Talk Hair Length

When I am feeling girly I curl my short hair. I am letting it grow right now it is just long enough to put on a small curler.
I enjoy my hair short pixie cut or little longer. I always been attracted to muscular women with short hair with sexy sports bras and that look and style. That is my goal and look that excites me to be a woman…..Lara
Some of the styles pictured above are nice, but those are also genetic females! For a tgirl who’s trying to “pass” it is not so easy to pull it off, esp. without long hair to frame your face. And in the back, my hair is just barely at chin level.
Don’t give up on the ladies pictured. Actually ISTM half of them, even Middleton, are “boyish” enuf in the face that they could totally play young-man roles (if they could do the rest of what being male takes — not that I have much clue about THAT, LOL!).
Of course, this batch of photos also *totally* confirms my “thing” for what a friend once called “boyish-looking women” — and since, as a bi cis woman, she shared that attraction, she didn’t mean that in a bad way at all!
I have naturally curly hair and I just want it to hurry up and grow long! I am loathe to get a hair CUT because I don’t have enough to spare!
Are you taking fenugreek for breast enlargement?
If you are, it should help you with your hair. What’s the condition- Apolecia or something close.
Lucille or Jennie may be able to clarify this!
I had a good head of hair, now I have a good mop of hair.
I am naturally wavy/curly hair >> blonde gone to fair.
I am looking for a hairdresser to trim & shape my hair, till then I’ll stick with male mode.
Real long hair wouldn’t suit me, look like a drag queen.
I have two wigs that I wear due to severe MPB, one a short pixie, another a darker bob.
Hi Lucille,
Over the last year I have been searching for a hair style to make me feel better about myself. I love the style in the photo on the top row on the right end. Can you tell me where I can get information on it and how to get my hair to eventually look something like it.
Love
Cristina
I totally agree, I have a short pixie cut with highlights and love the look. I want to get some low lights to finish it off and give it a really nice pretty look! Thank you

Before I understood that I was trans, I had really long hair. Fell into almost perfect ringlets and naturally grew blond tips, when straightened it was well past the shoulder, then I started trying to act more manly after social pressures and the desire to conform crushed me. I shaved my hair short down to a milimeter grew a beard and staye dlike this for a couple of years. Now I’m trying to grow it back but because I cut so short it is going to take forever! Another year I’d say before my hair is long enough to do a nice female short style :S
Long. I have no choice since it’s my real hair. 🙂
