If you’re a crossdresser or transgender woman, then you know what can impact clothes, hair, and makeup can have on your appearance.
But let’s not forget about the little details, like your hands!
While you can’t change the structure of your hands, the good news is that there are simple ways to help minimize their size and create a more feminine look.
In this blog post on how to get feminine hands, I share 4 dos and don’ts for feminizing your hands. Let’s dive in!
DO Invest In The Right Grooming Tools
Since we’re constantly using our hands, they’re a natural magnet for attention. That means that neatly groomed hands and nails are a must.
Good grooming doesn’t have to take much time – especially when you use the right tools. Here are a few items you should have in your arsenal:
- Nail brush – This is an essential tool for cleaning under the fingernails.
- Glass nail file – A glass nail file is gentler on the nails, so it’s a better option than an emery board or metal nail file.
- Nail buffer – Use a nail buffer to give your nails a natural shine without having to use polish.
- Hand cream – Hand creams are thicker than body lotions, so they offer extra hydration for hands and nails.
DON’T Make These Manicure Mistakes
Whether you go to a salon or do it yourself, getting a manicure is a great way to polish your feminine look.
That said, there are a couple mistakes you’ll want to avoid:
- Avoid nails that are too long or too short. Both of these extremes tend to make the fingers look larger and thus, more masculine. The most flattering nail length is about 1/8″-1/4″ past your fingertips.
- Avoid dark nail polish colors. If your hands aren’t your strong point, avoid dark colors and stick with neutral tones that blend into your hands. Flattering color choices are soft pink, nude, or ivory.
DON’T Forget Hairy Knuckles
This seems obvious, but it still needs to be stated: If you have hairy knuckles, don’t forget to shave them when presenting yourself as a woman.
No need for such a simple detail to run an otherwise impeccable feminine image!
DO Use Jewelry To Your Advantage
Rings and bracelets can definitely make your hands look prettier, but there are a couple important rules to follow:
- Avoid dainty jewelry. If you have larger hands, they can overpower delicate jewelry. Instead, look for chunkier jewelry styles that suit the proportions of your hands.
- Keep it low key. Flashy rings and bracelets call attention to an area you may want to downplay. That means one or two simple pieces is all you need. Instead, keep the focus on your face with a statement necklace or beautiful earrings.
In conclusion
Even if your hands aren’t your favorite feature, they don’t have to detract from a feminine look. Apply these tips and your hands will blend in beautifully.
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you feel about your hands? Do you have any additional suggestions to add to this list? Please share in the comments below!

Even your hands don’t look out of place.

I guess you can say I’m blessed with long narrow fingers that have been the envy of women since my teen years. I go through periods where I put a clear polish and varnish on my nails and has a woman I’m delighted when so many notice my hands and compliment my nails but I have to admit I get a little embarrassed when I’m in my old coveralls trying to look project my best male image and I still get public attention about my nails.
Shoes I can wear from 10 1/2 to 11 narrow. I love tall heels but my 6 feet means I sometimes have to be more conservative.
The question I get asked a lot is how do I get my nails to grow so long. Some of the women I work with, can’t get their nails to grow or they break too easy.
I love Jeanette’s reply. I think accessories like gloves are great too. In Summer a white/pink pair can protect a girl’s skin from damaging uv rays. I’m all for pumps like Cena shows..so classy! I am yet to understand what sling backs are..I guess they are a strap around the back of the heel?!
Yes, exactly!! I love the idea of gloves in the summer. How cute are these?
I love French manicure nails in a short length because they go with anything, look elegant, and don’t need to bother with color coordinating for any of my outfits. I steer away from painting my nails, as this just draws attention to my hands. So, I rarely do my nails for most outings and I don’t wear rings, period. The key to me is downplay my hands as much as I can.
I apply fake nails for special occasion outings only. Most of the time, I just put on a couple coats of simple, clear nail polish to give them shine and simply keep them well groomed. I’ve found from experience this works very very well for me 90% of the time. Most genetic women do NOT have elaborate nails; they keep it simple for everyday work and going out. IMO, to blend in (which is more important than “passing”, per se), this is the most thought out choice.
I have the luxury of living in a cold climate. So from about November till about late March, I wear a pair of ISOTONER, one-size-fits-all stretch fleece with spandex webbing between the fingers, and they’re BLACK gloves. They’re thin, light, and give you great dexterity with your fingers (I wear them whenever I’m putting on hose to prevent runs… they’re great for this!!). Bottom line, I don’t even take my gloves off when I’m out and about shopping and go into stores, because of the dexterity they afford. They make my hands look HALF THEIR NORMAL SIZE!!
This works ladies!
Peace…
Jeanette
Very good point, Jeanette!! Too bad gloves are no longer a fashion accessory like they were in the 1950’s. Hands are a problem area for everybody after a certain age and gloves are so elegant. I think we should bring this back as a year-round trend!
I have several fingernails that are 1/4 inch or longer. I have been complimented on how petty may hands look. This is great considering that I used to chew my fingernails down to the quik, to the point they would bleed. Interesting how I quit chewing my nails.
I have almost always had long fingernails and more recently long toenails. This I am proud of as my nailbeds are naturally deep for showing off spectacular nails both on my hands and feet. It is hard for me to keep my fingernails down to only 1/4 inch past my fingers ends as they grow fast even at my age ( although now I do wear acrylic overlays on them ) and also because where I get them done they seem to feel that it is alright when they are so long. As to wearing long toenails or at least for the big toes I am now cautious as I have had 2 big big toenail accidents due to my wearing platform sandals in my kitchen in leaning over my sink by the kickback below it: I lost both nails violently. Now I wear artificial nails on my big toenails. It will literally take years for them to grow out! The moral of this story is for one to watch out wearing long toenails with platform sandals in a kitchen with kickback cabinets!
For all of you who take self-portraits (yeah, you KNOW you do!), here’s a tip to make your hands appear slimmer in your photos. Guy hands tend to look the size of baseball mitts at the best of times, so when I’m posing transgender subjects I make sure the hands are as edge-on to the camera as possible. Don’t ever clasp hands with fingers interleaved; place one over the other.
I try to conceal feet if possible, but for seated poses, pointing the feet to keep them in line with the leg will help minimise their apparent size.
