Did you know that the colors you choose to wear have a huge impact on how others perceive you – especially when presenting as a woman?
Colors convey subtle messages that can influence whether you appear more feminine or masculine.
So, if your goal is to look more feminine as a crossdresser or transgender woman, paying attention to the colors of your clothes and accessories is essential!
In this blog post on trans / crossdressing transformation tips, I share the meanings of 12 different colors and what they project about your female self.
White
White is associated with purity and innocence, which is why it’s traditionally worn by brides. Wear white if you want to look pure, pristine, and impeccable.
Blue
Light blue sends messages of peace, trust, and understanding. Dark blue is associated with authority and masculinity (think police uniforms), so use this color sparingly.
The best shades of blue for crossdressers and transgender women are light blue and baby blue.
Pink
Pink is the color of love and romance. No surprisingly, it’s also the most feminine color, so you may want to incorporate plenty of pink into your wardrobe.
Red
Red is the most intense color of all and is associated with passion, desire, love, and sexuality. Wear red if you want to be noticed.
Black
Black is associated with power, elegance, and formality. Wear black when you want to look sophisticated and mysterious.
Purple
Purple communicates mystery, magic, and creativity. This is a great color to wear if you want to add a touch of fantasy to your look.
Green
Light green symbolizes freshness and youthfulness, while dark green is associated with money and ambition. Wear a gorgeous shade of green to add a fresh, feminine vibe to your look.
Yellow
Yellow is the color of joy and energy. Wear yellow to show off your fun, playful side. Avoid yellow when you want to be taken seriously.
Orange
Like yellow, orange is associated with joy, enthusiasm, and attraction. This is a great color to wear when you want to liven things up.
Brown
Brown is a stable, wholesome, and down-to-earth color. Wear brown for mellow occasions or if you want to appear reliable and genuine.
Gray
Gray is a great color to wear when you need to come across as professional and trustworthy. Too much gray can get boring though, so be sure to punch it up with some fun colors.
Beige
Beige is a simple, conservative color that’s friendly, approachable and non-threatening. It’s perfect for times when you want people to open up to you.

P.S. Color is a HUGE topic that doesn’t just relate to clothes. Hair and makeup are equally important!

i love every shade of pink from baby soft to magenta, but i also love lavander, and the colors that you don’t talk about that is floral prints. i am a sucker for every thing floral, and lace. i feel if i am going fem that i go all the way.
I have every color of the rainbow in my wardrobe and upon awakening each day I spend 15 -30 minutes deciding what I’m going to wear that day, even trying on different outfits that match my feelings and where I will be going that day. As it is summer I try on shorts with a printed top, a lite printed dress, capris, pants, etc depending on the weather forecast. So its just fun getting ready for the day. BTW I am retired and have the luxury of taking my time.
Black is the color I wear when I want to be daring and sexy,But most of all the color black gives you curves and sex appel.
I had noticed the term “while in femme” and didn’t quite know how to relate to that since I live in stealth 24/7 and identify as female (transgender).
But at any rate, I have a wardrobe with a variety of shades and colors. I do tend to wear beige a lot but I also wear pinks and blues as well.
I have a new orange top that I’m obsessing over as well. Yellow is a color that I could use more of.
The only thing black that I have besides a few t-shirts and sleep wear is a black dress with a multi-colored over lay.
I think the main thing that I look at besides color is the cut and the slimming effect that I can get. I’m an older woman (53) so I tend to dress as “age appropriate” as I can without looking like a grandmother.
Also accessories are a must to add the icing on the cake of whatever color scheme your displaying.
I’ll add a few photos.
Most of the men I attract love me wearing red.
I’m so lucky! All colors seem to work well for me. I wear blue frequently so that’s probably my default. But I will wear whatever seems best for the occasion, and I think I’m more right than wrong. Even sometimes when the combinations could be a bit bizarre, I may still get appreciative comments.
A few asides:
The Red Hat Society, those delightful fun-loving girls of “a certain age”, wear red hats of course, but usually most everything else is purple. Looks good on them.
In another lifetime, in a galaxy long ago and far away, I was a Navy man. I would go out in my dress whites, and think that they soon became smudged and grubby, just by dirt leaping out of the air. But sweet little old ladies would smile and ask how I kept my whites so CLEAN. It’s in the eye of the beholder, I guess…
Speaking of appreciative comments, have you noticed that many crossdressers rarely give compliments? Is it that they are afraid that if they do so they might be viewed as “faggots”? Sad, really. I’m happy to see that many “Lucille’s Girls” aren’t at all reluctant to show appreciation of a successful appearance.
I can’t say that I have an absolute favorite or “go to” color. I do like blues and pinks but I often find myself buying things that are multi-colored. I feel like I’m drawn to the patterns and that the colors are secondary. Red is my least favorite – I don’t hate it but it just doesn’t “grab” me like some other colors do.
Although I enjoyed this article there was one thing the bothered me. The recurrent use of lines like “wear this if you want to appear…..”. I understand that color, just like hairstyle, clothing choice, and attitude, can all affect other peoples perception of you but this kind of thinking gets way overblown and this can cause some people to fall into the habit of worrying about whether or not someone else will like the clothes that you are wearing.
I agree that some rules of fashion should be applied to our wardrobes in order to look good but that good should be what YOU think it to be. Not everyone else. If you like yellow then wear yellow – I will still take you seriously unless we are laughing and giggling about something together over wine 🙂
I suppose that in summary I would just say….Dress for YOU and NOT for them.
HUGZ for all of you!
Katie
personally I really like the color pink, and also shades of purple. I also really like the sophicated look with black, tough often I wear black to look mysterious… even tough wearing black in a non-sophisticated way would make a weird look for me considering how colorful my hair is.
I add a few pictures of the shade of colors I often use.
