Stepping out publicly as a woman is a powerful way to validate your female self.
In fact, I recently published a poll asking “How often do you go out in public as a woman?”
I was happy to see that the majority of my readers (transgender women and crossdressers) go out at least occasionally.
No matter how often you do it, I’m sure you can remember your first time presenting as a woman or crossdressing in public.
Since this is such an important gender-affirming step, I’d love to hear about it!
When was it? Where did you go? And what was your experience?
Please share with us in the comments below!
And if you’ve never been en femme in public, I’m sure you’ll find lots of inspiration in these stories.
As always, thank you for reading and participating!
Love,
Lucille

bonjour

I went out in public last week under escort ,what amazing experience walking through Manchester buying a dress as a girl having a Costa coffee and no one really cares .when I bought my dress in marks and Spencer’s the lady said well done and you look lovely.
You and your outfit DO look wonderful.
If I could look as feminine I would go out dressed too!
Hugs and kisses,
Jenny Dee
First time was shopping at Talbots and I had called in advance so I had a sale lady who would shepard me through the experience knowing I was trans. Just the simple delight of trying on dresses and shoes like any other woman touched my feminine soul to the core. After, as I walked down the street both arms filled with packages, I felt like Mary Tyler Moore. I just wanted to take off my beret and throw it in the air. Still a “high” point of my life. 40 years ago.
Love to you all,
Sarah
This is a terrific comment and while I appreciate your calling ahead I am not sure it is necessary. Salespeople and clerks are there to make sales not make gender or political judgments/statements so I think the sales-environment is one of the best places for anyone looking to get out and about and build their confidence while taking cogent suggestions as to being more “blendable” too.
Lucille SPENCER (my BFF) talked me into coming out in New York to go to an event. I want to a professional makeup artist. Lucille picked me up there and we went to the event.walking there I was read and felt bad because Lucille was so passable. I want to give them the bird but Lucille said look away. I had a great time. I now go out at sigma epsilon events in Atlanta and with Lucille when in New York City till she passed. With a deep hole in my heart I have not dressed since but know it want last long.
My first time was Halloween 2010. It was a wonderful enlightening experience. I did not think I would pass…maybe I didn’t but everyone loved my look and I got so many wonderful compliments. That is the night I fell in love with heels stockings, short skirt, long hair, and of course the feeling of breasts bouncing with a slight jiggle. Koryn was born. I have gone out many times since and have absolutely enjoyed every experience. Sometime I get a smile form someone who sees me and sometimes a smirk but I do not care for I figure I gave them something to talk about. In this picture I was out in Chicago with a bunch of other gurls. A remember able evening.
First time was getting a pedicure and manicure over dressed for it had to take off pantyhose was a pain . Learned now there are footless tights . Was not bad. Then it was a Thursday evening was busy other women there asking questions and were very helpful they said we see you again and we did . How I met my Mary Kay lady I buy makeup from .
My first time out in public (Summer 2001), I drove about an hour to meet another Transwoman I had met online. I got ready at her place and then we drove another hour to an LGBT friendly bar in Sacramento called Faces
I was over 2 hours away from home, which helped alleviate my fears of running into someone I knew. The bar was packed and there were lots of other Trans Women there.
Everyone was so welcoming and accepting. It seemed like Everyone wanted to come meet the new girl. I even had a few guys try to pick me up. I’m not attracted to masculine people, but it was flattering and somehow validating to experience that.
I went back to that bar several times over the following year before I worked up the courage to start going out closer to home. Now I walk around town in skinny jeans a blouse and high heels and hear nothing but compliments.
