Clothing can be a powerful way to affirm your gender as a crossdresser or transgender woman.
While there are guidelines for achieving a fashionable and feminine look, this doesn’t mean you should be a slave to the “rules.”
Many so-called fashion rules are outdated or just plain wrong!
Are you following these 5 male to female fashion rules? If so, it might be time to break them!
Rule #1: Dress As Feminine As Possible
Nobody pulls off the feminine look quite like transgender celeb, Gigi Gorgeous. But that doesn’t mean everybody needs to dress this way!
The beauty of fashion is that you can express yourself however you want.
Whether your style is tomboyish, androgynous, or ultra feminine, anything goes. So, enjoy your individuality and dress however you want!
Rule #2: Don’t Go Without Shapewear
Shaping your body with breast forms, a corset, and hip pads can create a stunning hourglass silhouette.
When you want to feel like a bombshell, shapewear is a girl’s best friend!
But remember, you don’t have to wear all these pieces every time you dress up. Comfort should be your priority.
Wear what makes you feel fantastic, and don’t hesitate to skip the rest.
Rule #3: Always Wear High Heels
While high heels are undoubtedly sexy and feminine, there’s no rule that says you must wear them all the time.
Flats can be equally alluring if you want to be comfy, or if you’re on the tall side and don’t want to accentuate your height.
Love the look of heels but don’t want to go all out? A kitten heel (1″-2″ tall) looks elegant and can help feminize your walk – without the pain of stilettos.
Rule #4: Dress Like The Women In Your Area
I often talk about how helpful it is to observe cisgender (genetic) women. If your goal is to blend in, it’s a good idea to adhere to the style norms in your area.
However, you might have noticed that many women dress sloppily or put little effort into their appearances. If that’s not your style, don’t feel obliged to follow suit.
Look as fabulous as you want… and maybe they will start to follow your lead!
Rule #5: You Must Always Match
There are so many choices in women’s clothing that putting outfits together can be daunting.
While you should always look coordinated, forget about old fashioned rules that say you must match from head to toe. Not only is this boring, it tends to look costumey and dated.

I agree Lucile especially the last one I’m ur trying to be Feminw u should always be Feminw and follow all these
For me, finding the a top, bottom, dress, skirt etc that fits (and i think looks decent) is not the hard part. Even shape-wear isn’t THAT much of an issue for me, since im naturally thin and i think i would be considered anorexic for my height if i was a cis-gendered female. The conversions are never accurate from mens to womens or vice versa, but its never tooooo bad… i might find that what i have gotten is a size or two too small or large and its not a real issue because most of the time you can just exchange it for the correct size based on the estimate of how what you got that didnt fit fits. be it online or in a B&M, its relatively painless (unless you enjoy the 5 sizes too small kind of thing).
however…
for me, the truly difficult thing about having a mans body and the soul of a woman is that i cant find the shoes that fit… it sounds cliche, yes. BUT its the truth. from what i have seen (and experienced, though im no master at shopping… online or in a B&M) MOST womens shoes, weather they are heels, pumps, MJ’s, clogs, boots, etc… tend to stop somewhere between the 11 and 12 sizes. and when you convert that into mens sizes (and most conversions are wrong in my experience as well) it translates to roughly 9-10 mens. people such as myself who are 6’2″ tall tend to have larger feet and hands (dont get me started on hands and gloves and the disproportionate cost as size goes up… its insane and out of control with ANY female clothing IMHO) it becomes nearly impossible to find a womans shoe that will fit my mens 12/13 feet! the conversions say a 12/13 should be equivalent to a 14/15, but it is never the case from what ive seen. They are usually extremely cavernous and fit like army boots in the toes and heels, but the smaller sizes are like shoving 10 WWE wrestlers into a mini-cooper. just utterly painful! and when you finally have one brand figured out the next brand is all off kilter from the next… its just bonkers.
amazon and ebay are beyond hit and miss. I’ve had some luck with shoesofprey, but they are prohibitively expensive, though gorgeous and fully custom. any sites you ‘larger’ ladies use that have shoes in our sizes that arent stripper heels (uhg, no thanks!), i am open to suggestions to my bookmarks and GPS lists.
Cheers ladies, and keep doing what your doing! :~)

Kate: you *can* find big enough shoes, if you look around. The local Torrid stores have almost no shoes, but they have a lot on-line. Exchange in-store. Clark’s and Rockport also have wide shoes. Nordstrom stores can carry / order wide widths. Stewart Weitzman stores in the US can supply wide widths, but in their Canadian stores. Payless should also be able to help you.
You can try torrid.com they have wider shoes and big sizes. Good luck
In Latvian basketball team was a player Uliana Semenova. Her height was really 217 cm but she was very feminine outside the basketball playground. Moira and Eithna Brennan ( Enya) are very high not only for women too ( watch Celts or Caribean Blue clips and others) but the both sisters are very feminine and wear heels.
Just gotta say more on shoes. High heels are rare for me, but moderate heels are nice sometimes. Feel good, look good, help out with posture and walk. What I really wanted to say is that when I worked downtown, I would see many women wearing their regular office clothes to work, but for the walk from bus or parking place to the office, they would wear nice-looking (not clunky), comfortable cross-trainers. Then change at the office to something more stylish, possibly change back to comfort for lunchtime strolling. The result is that it was common to see nicely-dressed women in comfortable, attractive, casual shoes, and the public eye got used to it.
I purely LOVE the non-rules. I am fairly consistent in breaking “rules”. I like the one about not being matchy-matchy, especially as I have seen advice to avoid that look. Although, just to be consistent, I sometimes do it anyway, and I THINK the compliments I get are sincere. Sometimes I have had great fun in dressing distinctly non-feminine! And, for my height, heels are DEFINITELY reserved for rare occasions. And you are SO right, Lucille, that women in a lot of places do not present themselves as people to copy. Great post, I really enjoyed it!
Thanks Joan! So happy you enjoyed this post. It was a lot of fun to write. 🙂
I try to dress as feminine as possible when I go out. Today, I wore a black cotton sundress with 4″ heels. No hose. Felt great. I went shopping and eating out. Was just another girl out on the town!
I am a fully grown up male but want to become a female with developed breasts & curves. IS is possible for a male Aged 69 years to become a female, now??
I am afraid to take the step towards this work and always have been postponing but want to die as a woman.
Any tips and dos and dont’s would be thankfully received.

Wow I am in the same boat… And I still have joy and hope…. Cheers
Yes, I am your age and will be have breast implants shortly! I now live 100% as a woman and love it! Go for it.
I love you tips and these rules are truely helpful. I often break the rule to always look like the woman in my area because I really love feminine skirtsuits and wear them even the true women don´t wear them much nowadays.
Every woman should do that she wants and dress the way she wants if she is born that way or not.
Best wishes, Marie-Christine
White and black is a classic combination but in this outfit I would like to dare to advice to change the color of your bag and shoes to white and it really will be like busineess lady after the succesful talks. My girlfiend was a model and she has taught me to buy female clothes and shoes as one outfit including accessories.
For me that part of the allure of wanting to live as a woman is that I can chose my look to match my mood. There is no one size that fits all when it comes to how women dress. When I was living as a male my primary choices were blue, black or pinstriped suits. Don’t get me wrong I could wear as flamboyant a tie as I wanted to work as long as it was over a white dress shirt. I think you look lovely Marie, thanks for sharing your look with us.
