Here are 5 phytoestrogen-rich foods worth including in your MTF diet:
Flaxseed
Among all foods, flaxseed is the richest source of lignans, which are a type of phytoestrogen. Flaxseed is also high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.
To get the full phytoestrogenic effect, you should consume ground flaxseed (instead of whole flaxseed) for easier digestion.
Try sprinkling ground flaxseed on cereal, yogurt, fruit, and salads. (It’s super tasty!)
Soy
Soy is the most popular high-phytoestrogen food. There are tons of soy foods available, so it’s easy to work them into your diet. Here are some options to try:
- Edamame
- Tofu
- Miso
- Tempeh
- Soy beans
- Soy milk
- Soy yogurt
- Soy protein powder
Fruits and Veggies
Many common fruits and vegetables contain phytoestrogens, giving you another reason to eat your fruits and veggies.
High-phytoestrogen fruits include:
- Dried fruits (especially dried apricots, dates, and prunes)
- Peaches
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Pomegranates
High-phytoestrogen veggies include:
- Alfalfa sprouts
- Winter squash
- Green beans
- Collard greens
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
Lentils
Lentils (and beans in general) are rich in phytoestrogens. They’re also low cal and high in protein and fiber, making them a great MTF diet staple.
Yams
Yams are another healthy, phytoestrogen-rich food. In fact, a particular type of yam (wild yam) is one of the most commonly-used herbs for female hormone balancing.
Bonus: Bustea
While not technically a food, many teas are also high in phytoestrogens. Check out your local health food store for fenugreek tea, fennel tea, or licorice tea.
Or if you’re feeling ambitious, try making Bustea. This recipe was originally shared by Dr. James A. Duke in his classic book, The Green Pharmacy. The tea is concocted of various “bust boosting” herbs, hence the name!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup fenugreek
- Dash each of anise, basil, caraway, fennel, marjoram, licorice, lemongrass, dill
Directions:
Combine the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. After it cools, add honey and lemon to taste. Dr. Duke recommends drinking 1-2 cups per day.
Note: Since Bustea is very high in phytoestrogens, I don’t recommend over-consuming it if you take prescription hormones. (Always speak with your doctor before combining herbs and hormones or other prescription meds.)

I eat flax seed every day and other phystrogenic stuff and find my nipples are quite Feeling ‘alert’. feeling very feminine. Is there one other food or drink you could suggest?

will this work if your not transitioning if you just want to be A feminine guy for no reason at all I would assume it would work because it’s not a true estrogen it’s phytoestrogens which bind to the same receptors that estrogen does but estrogen doesn’t work when phytoestrogens are clogging up all of the receptors not letting the true estrogen in so would phytoestrogens work more if you weren’t taking estrogen
Ingesting phytoestrogens can be hindered by natural testosterone in the body. I had read that spearmint has been used to combat hirsutism by blocking testosterone. Drinking spearmint tea, along with phytoestrogens, can help to produce higher levels of estrogen. It also tastes good, it has no caffeine and it seems to help me get a good nights sleep. It can be purchased on Amazon. This may be a coincidence (maybe not) but spironolactone (which is what many doctors prescribe to block testosterone) has a taste of spearmint.

Though Spironolactone tastes NOTHING like spearmint. I should know considering I was mistaken about how I was supposed to take the stuff and dissolved my first tablet in my mouth. It tastes horrible (I’d compare it to seawater). The spearmint flavor you taste is just a coating on the outside of the tablet to make it easier to swallow.

Try growing spearmint, super easy, mine comes back every year.
I haven’t tried different brands and I couldn’t find spearmint tea sold locally. I had also read that other mints like peppermint didn’t have that same effect. So it didn’t make sense to me to buy a tea that had a combination of stuff in it. So I purchased Traditional Medicinals Organic Spearmint Tea. I chose that brand because it was pure and natural. The first time I bought a small amount but I liked it so much I bought a bulk deal. I hope that was helpful, Stephane.

Just to clarify what I wrote. Spearmint tea will not produce a higher estrogen level, but it will reduce the dominant testosterone level.
Phytoestrogens are chemically very similar to mammalian estrogen, but that doesn’t mean they mimic it, some actually believe that phytoestrogens can attach to estrogen receptors without having the true effects of estrogen, which in effect blocks mammalian estrogen by leaving less receptors available. If you want more estrogen the best solution is fat. Fat stores estrogen and the more fat the more estrogen you can have.
excellent advice Lexi. I really wish that I would have started Hrt at a much younger age also. At a very young age, I wore silk panties and every chance I got, I wore pantyhose, and loved wearing perfume, and played with nail polish ect. I always remember wanting to BE a sexy, hot girl in high school when I saw one, instead of wanting to be with her. I hung out as much as I could with girls in school, just to be more like them.

if you want to be more feminine actually, just start wearing pretty women’s things. pantyhose, heels, petticoats, lingerie. shave full body. start yourself on female hormones and wear satin as much as you possibly can. my favorite thing is wearing fluffy satin sissy dresses, heels , the whole girly routine. painted nails, toenails, and always wear lots of pretty perfume. my fave is vanilla fields . watch sissy hypno movies while you are dressed pretty, and smelling pretty. keep at it. there’s no going back.
